*New* change jar

We use a large coffee can, like what you get at Sams or BJs wholesale. Pockets get emptied at the end of the day into the can, whatever is left, change or bills. We will count it all up a couple of days before we leave for our next trip.

We use one of those HUGE plastic baby bottles that you get baby gifts in. For our last trip we started saving a few months ahead and put all extra change in there at the end of the day. By the time we left we had almost $1000!!!! We are Canadians so the 1 and 2 dollar coins add up quickly!! We have started again and now my DD contributes too! We wait till just before we leave so the amount is a surprise. :goodvibes

ok ... we just emtied two banks for 7/1-8 trip. yeilded great spending money for the princesses.
What do we use for banks?
Empty Crown Royal bottles (half gallon size) :)

This has inspired me to finish up the old mason jar (too small) and then move on to the Cirque popcorn container we saved!! :flower: That should hold a good chunk of change!! :cool1:

We use a big coffee can and a Tigger cookie jar -- no pennies allowed in either one!!! I count it up every couple of weeks, deposit the money in my checking account and immediately transfer it to my ING account (my Disney Fund!!!) :goodvibes

DH and I got one of the 5 gallon water jugs, and when that's half full, we have enough for a week's vacation. You'd be suprised how fast it builds up (and how heavy it is to bring to the bank :) )

Jen

That is what we use, a big water jug from an office water cooler. It's not even 1/4 filled :(. But, last year we ended up with 80.00 or so and only filled it for 4-5 months....so I'm sure it's more than it looks :) at this point.

We already wrapped our change from our piggy banks. They are really glass piggy banks we got at Walmart for $1. Anyway, now I just have the Disney money sorters sitting on the table to put change in. When one gets filled, I can wrap it. We bought Disney Dollars with our change money.

We use a giant Coke bottle bank from Ice Station Cool! We saved up all change since October and it filled about a tenth of the bank and it totalled $155!

I will be saving our change from now till we leave in Nov. Just cashed in the little change I had a week ago for my trip to Chicago.

I have popcorn bucket from Disney. That I will be stashing it in. It will get a big boost when I get my expenses back from my business trip.

I did manage to use some of the cashed in change for Disney Dollars at the Disney store.

I try not to pull out the quarters but sometimes laundry calls. I will have to replace with dollar bills when I do that.

I've got a zillion popcorn buckets under my cabinet, we've used them for everything from popcorn for the twins (gotta have the same amount this helps) plastic siverware, iced tea, but not my Disney change!! Good idea!1

I just rolled all my change for August, hoping to get an AP with it, Ive got about 300. I even rolled my pennys which I never do :guilty: the are a pain to do, and I got 35.00 in pennies alone!

I think I am gonig to start using a change bank again! I need to get one though. I am going to round up all my checks when I go to the store so that I can add the change bucket. We dont use cash for anything though. Any suggestions?

These are some great ideas!
We have a change jar, but we dip into it too often.. I think I need to find something that is hard to open, so the change will stay in there until we go on our vacation! We have quite a while to save anyway :)

January- our daughters are 4 days apart ~My Ava turned 8 months today :)

I like to keep my change semi-sorted, so we have 4 banks.

We have:

Giant Mt. Dew Bottle: pennies

Giant Coke Bottle: special coins... $1 coins, half dollars, new nickels, bicentennial quarters... those type of things

Giant Pepsi Bottle: state quarters

Giant Crayon: other silver change (and sometimes I sneak in some dollar bills)

I have only counted the change in one bank. We have the bottom of the Pepsi bottle covered with state quarters and there is a about $100 there. I will love to count that one when it is full.

The one I'm really curious about is the Crayon. It is about halfway full!

I got this idea from the boards and it works SO well for us. At Dollar Tree they sell a large "crayon" bank. We decorate it with Disney stickers and use a permanent marker to write Our Disney Trip on the front. The very best thing about this bank is that you have to cut it apart to get the money out. This way you can't borrow money from the bank to wash the car or get an ice cream cone. We put all our kid's extra money into the bank. For example, when my son graduated from preschool, he got $20.00 in a card from his PaPa. This went into the bank. We will cash the money in for him to buy toys and souvenirs at WDW!

MayMom- did you buy the crayon bank recently? I'm wondering if DollarTree would still have them... that sounds like it would work well for us. I don't have the discipline to keep out of our change jar and I need something that won't open easily when we "need" an ice cream or something like that! :rotfl2:

A coworker of mine cut a small slit in the lid of a large jar, then GLUED the top to the jar. :flower:

We have a large water jug with Disney stickers all over it. In the last three years we have saved $1200, $950 and this year $850 for our yearly trips in August.

hello. I'm going to Flordia in less than 39 days. :cheer2: I've been waiting since last September. I'm sooo excited. Anyway, I started a change jugs several months ago. A few weeks ago icounted it all up and had saved 310 dollars. ;) This is my first trip to WDW and i can hardly wait.

I had just remembered the other day that I got a Disney cookie jar for a birthday present a year or two ago. I am now going to use that. LOL. I have also decided everytime I go to the store, I am going to round up my checks. Like if I spend 22.36 I'll round it up to 25. Then the extra money goes into the Disney fund!
