New Canadian Code...

A question if you've managed to book this.

Is there a discount off the room rate? If so, do you know how much? (Particularly interested if you got it on a mod, but any info is useful.)

I just called WDWTC and she couldn't tell me if there was a room discount, only that the ticket add-ons were a bonus. I can easily enough calculate the value of that, but need to know if there's a room discount to know if it's worth it for us.

She tried to re-run our room-only res with the package but it wasn't available at CBR when we're going, so she would've had to start over with a speculative other resort to find out the discount. We gave a lot of thought to the resort AND the time, so I'm not really willing to change that unless I feel I'm going to get a deal. And I am so not patient on the other end of a phone line while someone mysteriously "works the options" for me!

(An aside, I'm feeling grumpy that she couldn't answer a simple and fairly obvious question for me.)

coastgirl, the code right now is only for an upgrade to a MYW ticket to a Premium MYW ticket with PH. This is deal is only for Cdn residents.

From what I can see a room only only discount has yet to be release.

See the post on my blog for a more detailed explanation under the title "Deals and Specials"

I had it quoted for me by a TA on here. Without the ticket add ons, my package came to $2257.67 (priced online myself).
The TA's quote with the package came to $2,124.77. So there is a small room discount, however it is $79 less (at least for my package) than a CAA discount.
It is a good deal people buying park hoppers and waterparks feature, but if you don't want the park hoppers and waterparks, then it isn't a great deal I think. We are really disappointed, we were hoping to get more of a room discount than this.
Anyone know if there is apt to be another room only discount, or should we go buy CAA?

Thanks Robb, it really doesn't work out to saving us very much. I won't monkey with our plans based on that...

Thanks for giving me the details, that's really helpful. Yep, I see a tiny room discount, but we're going for 2 wks and we could potentially save a LOT more if there's an AP discount. (Which I am really, really stuck on, as it's such a slow time of year. I'm an optimist.)

You have to compare this deal properly to a room-only rate.

For example, I just booked this deal for my parents.

Without the code and a base ticket would of run them $2,556.22 USD.
With the code and Premium ticket was $2319.82 USD for a 10 night stay at PoR.

So there was a $236.40 USD savings on the ROOM only. Granted, that's only a $23.64 savings per night off of the room rate, but (there's ALWAYS a but) this offer INCLUDES the dining plan.

Don't forget, an AP/CAA room only rate can NOT get you the dining plan.

For example; let's say the AP rate for a moderate resort is $40 off per night (which is what it is currently), then that's really only a difference of $16.36 from this offer.

Now, seeing as the dining plan saves you 40% on food, is the $16.36/night savings with a possible AP rate worth it? No, ESPECIALLY if you are going to be doing ADR's every night of your stay...

So you really, really have to consider this deal vs. room only if only for the DDP.

On a side note; these type of offers are NEVER offered before AP/FL resident rates. The fact that they have been is indeed a tad strange. ;)

Hope that helps! :)

So are you saying if you use a CAA discount, you can't get the dining plan?
Oooo... that puts a whole different spin on things!

So are you saying if you use a CAA discount, you can't get the dining plan?

Fabooliss - you can ONLY get the Disney Dining Plan when you book a Magic Your Way package at a Disney owned and operated resort (which is a reservation with park tickets).

You can NOT get the dining plan if you are booking ANY room-only package, such as an AP rate, FL resident rate or CAA rate...

Put it this way, I'm a TA, so therefore I get a FAR better rate off of 'room only' then AP, CAA etc and I STILL go for a MYW package so I can take advantage of the dining plan...

If they (CAA) are booking you on a room only rate, you can't get the dining plan. :sad1:

:tinker: Sometimes it best to keep to the experts who live and breath Disney

Thanks Madonna.

We aren't DDP people...we can't eat all that food, and also really enjoy eating "off world" as much as we can. (We live in a small town and can't get interesting ethnic food here, so save up for when we travel--World Showcase is nice, but we also enjoy considerably less...um...polished places, as well as regional American stuff.)

Interesting side-note about the AP rate release too.

I also found it strange that they released something that's designed to create traffic the day before this big computer shut down! I was not watching closely this week b/c I figured, oh, maybe they'll release something next week or the week after once they've got their new system working smoothly... :confused3 What do I know? ;)

however it is $79 less (at least for my package) than a CAA discount.

I forgot that I wanted to address this point earlier.

You will notice that ANY MYW package discount released by Disney turns out to be better those offered by CAA. A prime example of this is when Disney offers free dining.

Reason being; it's their own. Therefore, Disney will not let CAA/AAA (or anyone else for that matter) offer a better discounted package then they will. ;)

Coastgirl - if your not a DDP person, then just cross your fingers for AP rates!!

You know I read this three times and never realized that I typed it wrong!

I actually calculated the CAA discount at $79 less than the package... but I didn't know I couldn't get the package and dining plan with that discount so I just figured out the CAA discount on the room portion of the package. So this turns out to be a great deal if you want the dining plan.
Now we just have to finish our "what would we eat" plans and calculate it all (made complicated by the child under 3 and the picky 5 year old!) to figure out if we DO want the dining plan!

Sorry to burst your bubble. AP rates will be out on November 2nd. Passholder offer includes: $59 plus tax room at a Value Resort for travel
1/1/07 – 2/14/07 (block-out dates 1/12 – 1/14)

Looks like only $23 bucks offer per night...exact same discount on the room portion as the current Canadian offer.

Note to all who have yet to book; go for the Canadian deal, this way you get the FREE ticket upgrade to a Premium ticket AND the option of taking the DDP. :thumbsup2

Madonna, don't know how much you can say or know...do you know if there's going to be the sort of equivilent discount on the mods? (I am used to seeing it around $40/nt.)

I guess I need to go do the math, as it didn't look like that much of a room discount to me...maybe b/c I wasn't attaching any value to the upgraded ticket (as only the hopper portion HAS value to me, our kids are too young for the rest).

Madonna, thanks for all the "free advice" you dispense, I do really appreciate your time. I do find all the rules and possibilities terribly confusing, but I'm type A enough to feel like I have to work it all out for myself! ;)

Your right, I can't say much else. ;)

Hi,

Do you have to call WDW to get the Canadian deal or can I get a quote using the online reservation system?

I am new to all of this......

Madonna you seem to be the Disney expert here. I am planning to take my family (2 kids) to disneyland on Jan1-Jan7 as my wife is running the Marathon there. I would also like to stay at the Port Orleans hotel.

What do I need to do to get the best package (including the Dining Plan and Park hoppers).

There is alot of discussion about codes, but I am not sure what the code is or how do i go about finding out what the price for the special offer is.

By the way I am a Canadian resident.

I don't mean to offend others (by soliciting Madonna's help). Any comment
that you may have is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help/

Not Madonna but thought I'd chime in. Call the Walt Disney travel company and tell them you want to book the special offer for Canadians. Tell the person you talk to the code is ZCU (if you want the dining plan) or ZCV (if you don't). The person I spoke to hadn't heard of the code and couldn't find info on it but I insisted and he used it on my reservation and it worked. It's actually a pretty good deal, if it applies to your dates. (I didn't actually book it after spending a lot of time with an excel spreadsheet, but that's because we already have a paid-for annual pass AP, which gives us another set of discounts to use--I hope! If we didn't already have the AP from our trip in the spring, it would be the best deal for us.)

Your own travel agent can do the same thing if you'd rather let someone else handle it.

Good luck.

Yes, Same experience here. I have an awesome CAA TA . She called Disney to make my ressie and said Disney couldn't find the canadian code to use. ??? ( What's up with that?) She said it's not the first time this has happened to her.....
She also insisted they keep checking, and yes, they managed to find out how to book it...She said they used another code name as they couldn't work with ZCU.
All is well . Ressies made for March! Free hopper and Waterpark added to my package.
