I just booked my trip for 2016, and although I have a lot of experience planning Disney trips this will be my first one to Fort Wilderness. This is a very special trip for me. Growing up, I always dreamed of staying in the campgrounds but my parents never wanted to stay anywhere but Riverside, so I’ve been waiting a long time for this trip. This will also be my first adult only trip with a group, including two family members who will be making their first trip. I’m lucky enough to also have my arrival day, be my 34 birthday.

Since this is my first stay at Fort Wilderness I wanted to join a forum that I could read, see pictures, and ask questions that I might have over the next year. We are tent camping and I’m a little nervous about that so I would really appreciate information or tips that anyone could share. Thank you in advance!

Congratulations!!!!!!!:welcome: I was the same way several years ago with my first camping trip to the Fort, and I am by no means considered a experienced camper yet. But I will say I love staying at the Fort more then anywhere else on property (even though my dream is to stay on day at the Animal Kingdom Lodge with a savanna view so I can wake up to a Giraffe)!!

One of my favorite things to do is the Movie/campfire every night (I'm a HUGE fan of Smores), and its a added bonus that Chip and Dale make appearances there every night too. We usually go around Christmas so we do spend about 2 hours a day riding around on the golf cart looking at decorations as well.
Good Luck planning your amazing trip!! pixiedust:

Hi Ladywolfe and Welcome to the Camping Forum AND the DisBoards.

We all know how you feel about the Fort. I have stayed 2 other places on property (Saratoga Springs and Caribbean Beach). Both trips I had to come spend a day at the Fort. It is a campground like no other.

Take your time looking over all the previous topics on here. There is a bunch of great advice. If you don't see something (or you get tired of reading), just ask. Someone will have an answer or suggestion. If not, there are always people like me that will make something up that sounds really good. o_O

You have 11 months or so. We can help make the time go a little faster and have you so excited you won't be able to stand it. The Fort is kind of like that.

:welcome: Ladywolfe, 2 of our posters, snowmedic and ilovedosneymm would be excellent sources of information on tent camping at the Fort. You could check out some of their campsite pics in here....

Ilovedisneymm also has a trip report that you could read here....

You can start a conversation (private message) and ask them specific questions after you have 10 posts.

Again, welcome to the Fort family.

You don't mention whether you are an experienced tent camper or not so I will just say that if you haven't been camping much make sure you take your tent and supplies out for a weekend trip near home well before your trip to the Fort to make sure you have everything you need and know what you are doing with regards to setting up your tent. Camping is the best, I LOVE it and am just excited as you about my first trip which is in 43 days!!! Congrats on booking your trip, you made a good choice coming to these forums, it definitely helps pass the time while waiting for a trip
