New Brunswick for Christmas!

Hi all!! As you can see, I am not a Canadian.....but.....I'm in love with one so I'm transplanting myself onto this board for some info on New Brunswick in the wintertime.

Looks like I will be spending Christmas in NewBrunswick this year. My family is very spread out all over the US and my boyfriend's family has invited me to go visit family in New Brunswick for Christmas.

What can I expect? I know it's going to be cold....but how cold? And snow...I know there will be a lot of snow but ... just how much are we talking? I've spent many a winter in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan so I've got no problems with snow and cold weather but I'm just not sure what to expect.

Any info and tips are appreciated!!!

First of all Welcome

I live in New Brunswick so hopefully I'll be able to give you some insight. We should have snow for Christmas, seems to come later and later each year .
Be prepared for cold weather, its really hard to estimate on a temperature cause it can fluctuate according to the wind chill facture but I would say around -10 to -15 degrees celsius. Bascially it's cold , of course for me anything less than 18 degrees is cold!

Where in New Brunswick are you going?

THe weather at Christmas could be cold and snowy, or it could be pretty mild with no snow!

Most likely it will have snow, and be pretty cold.

I lived down south for many years before returning to NB, and I used to miss the white christmas so much. I really love going for a walk right after a snowfall, with the snow crunching under your feet!

Like the previous posters have said, it can either be cold and snowy, or mild and no snow. The last couple of years there really hasn't been much snow until after Christmas. It depends to on what part of New Brunswick you are coming to. You will know better the closer the time comes, just keep checking with your BF family, they will be able to tell you what the weather is like then.

You will love it here in New Brunswick for Christmas, it is beautiful if the snow does fall for Christmas. I am a bit biased after all, I am from here and haven't spent Christmas anywhere else.

I can't imagine being anywhere else (Ok except Disney) for Christmas!
Hopefully there will be snow-we've had some wet and somewhat green Christmases. Don't hesitate to ask any questions and if you are driving through-keep a bottle of gas line antifreeze just in case. (seen this too many times travelling from our home to visit family in other parts of the province)

Okay folks...hoping for a weather update.

I can give you some more details now....we're flying into Moncton on 12/24 and will be staying with my boyfriend's relatives near Cocagne from 12/24-12/29 and then returning to Windsor on the 29th.

I have no idea what to expect. However, right now, in Michigan it's about 20 degrees ferenheit so I'm used to the cold weather.

What can I expect in NB during xmas?

I live 35 minutes from cocagne and as of now we do not have snow and it is
-2 degrees C and sunny. hope you have a wonderful stay in new brunswick.

The first time I went to Canada I went to St. John, New Brunswick. If you are in the area, don't miss the reversing falls!

I live in Saint John, possibly the warmest part of the province during winter because of the Bay of Fundy. It rains as much as it snows except in Jan and Feb. Greater Moncton and the Eastern shore tend to get hit much harder with snowfall, with two or three storms a year dumping a half metre or more in 24 hours.

Like others have said though, it's either a foot of snow on the ground and freezing here at Xmas or sunny and above zero with most of your lawn still green. As we say in these parts, "if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes".

It's quite chilly but it gets very beautiful in the winter. Just pray that your boyfriend's family has a wood stove: If the power goes out (which is actually quite cozy) it's REALLY nice to have a fireplace.

Hi all. Well, we returned from New Brunswick last Thursday....what an amazingly beautiful place! I did NOT want to get on that plane!!! We flew in on Christmas Eve and it started before we even landed...as soon as we broke through the clouds, I could see tons and tons of trees! A very nice sight coming from just south of Detroit where a nice wooded area is not easy to come by.

My boyfriend's family lives in Grande-Digue. We had a wonderful time with his family and got to do a lot of relaxing, which was very necessary. Their house is about 200 yards from water so we walked over to the edge of the hill and just stared out into nothing....saw nothing, heard nothing....it was amazing!
