New book about JFK, Jr.

I saw this on ET last night and again this morning on the Today show. A new book and Vanity Fair article are talking about JFK, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn. Among other things, it talks about their troubled marriage and that they weren't living together at the time of their deaths, Carolyn's cocaine use and horrible temper, as well as infidelity by both of them.

Why can't we let these people rest in peace!!! I can't imagine how horrible this must be for the families.

Someone is obviously out to make another buck using the Kennedy name. It just makes me sick.

Anyone else feel this way?

Truthfully, no. I've heard about the book and really want to read it. Also, I think there's a huge difference between stalking/hounding a celebrity in order to sell a story and researching and writing a book posthumously.

It's the price you pay for fame, I guess.

I saw this on CNN. Personally, I'm not interested in reading this book.

What difference does it make to us or anyone else that they were having marital problems or that they weren't sleeping together? They are gone, nothing will bring them back.

I have no interest in reading this book and think it is disgraceful that someone wrote this book. I felt sick when I heard about it on tv. These people died and their private lives should remain just that. The author and anyone that contributed to the story should be ashamed of themselves!

Personally, it doesn't bother me either. Unfortunately, the media and public sensationilizies (spelling?) the Kennedy's so much, there is interest even after death.


Look at Jackie O, JFK, JFK, Jr, Ted Kennedy.... they are, and will always be famous. The Kennedy name is far reaching, even the cousins get notoriety for challenging situations... (remember Michael Skakel, and the other Kennedy cousin who had a rape trial either in the 80's or early 90's).

But honestly, every marriage has challenges and concerns. If anything, this "stuff" about the marital *******, and the drug use, makes them "much more relatable"... haven't any of us married folks, had challenges? Or had, or know someone, with an addiction?

I can't say it doesn't suprise me with her.. I never in any press photo, saw her smile EVER! Granted when you are walking the dog at 2 am... you don't want to smile at the paparazzi.... even the circulated wedding photo.. she has a half smile. ...


Being famous, ultra famous, and wealthy has its down sides as well. I'm not suprised with the drug use either.

Will I read the book? Most likely, not. I'm not a Kennedy fan. I was born after the Kennedy reign in the US, so that has something to do with it... it seems like the past for me. DH on the other hand, remember JFK, growing up (they are/were the same age!), Caroline getting married, etc...

I, for one, think they shouldn't be writing this book. It's a shame they have died but the past is the past. Whatever they did, cant be changed. Let them rest in peace!

I guess what really bothers me about this book coming out now is the fact that JFK, Jr. and Carolyn aren't here to defend themselves against the accusations. I agree that fame does come with a price, but IMO this book is just in bad taste.

Then you would have to agree that no biography of ANY dead person should be written. That includes the famous, the infamous, the good, the bad and the ugly. If you've lived a life in the limelight, you most likely WILL be preserved in history ...for better or for worse. Unfortunately, there are times that people forget that.

I feel much more sorry for living superstars who are harrassed and stalked by the papparazzi looking to make a quick buck on a photo. After you're dead.....who cares?

No, I don't agree that biographies of dead people should not be written. What I don't like are the sensational (the maid's brother's roommate's half cousin's said....) accounts that some of these books seem to be filled with. The Vanity Fair article seems to be filled with "information" from Carolyn's ex-boyfriend....a male model whose career must need a boost.

Although I haven't yet read the Vanity Fair article, I am positive it was written by Dominick Dunne. He has been reporting and writing about famous people for almost 30 years. He's covered the OJ trial, the Menendez Brothers, the Skakels, the Safra murders, etc. In addition to writing regularly for Vanity Fair, he has written several books. The interesting thing about Dunne's style of reporting is that he never reveals sources nor does he outright accuse people. He just tells you what he hears. I would agree with you that his work could be labelled as gossip but many credit him with helping to uncover (or villify depending on your point of view) Michael Skakel's involvement in the Martha Moxley murder.

I can't comment on the book....haven't read it yet nor seen it. It doesn't sicken me nor does it bother me. Again, it's the price you pay.

People such as the Royal Family have been villified/glorified by the press for years. Perhaps we're victims of freedom of speech/freedom of the press. But as long as someone has a story worth telling, it will be told.

As an aside, and I'm really curious....is it just reporting on the Kennedy family or is it all personal reporting that you don't care for?

I think that if the Kennedys ignore the book, the hoopla will die down and it will go away.

I agree that it's deplorable, but unfortunately there was a certain amount of fame and notoriety to the Kennedy name. I'm more of a fan of letting dead people rest in piece. And there is a difference between writing a fact-based book on someone's life, and repeating gossip and innuendo.

If the book is called "the kennedy curse" I heard about it today on the Today show. I think it looks good...I would read it.

It's not just the Kennedy's. I wasn't around for the Camelot years and don't have a fondness for them per se. Only that JFK, Jr. was one of the most handsome men I've ever seen!

I would have to say that it's all personal reporting...done in the manner in which the new book seems to be, that I don't care for. I'm very sceptical of such publications.

I hear ya, SeaShelley - Jon Jon was the closest thing New England had to a prince, and he looked the part!

I was watching an old Sienfeld a while ago - remember when Elaine has a date with JFK, Jr? It wasn't funny at all - just sad.

Since all this dirt was going to come out whether they were dead or not - I'm glad they are not here to read about it.
