New BLT rooms definitely not "70's cheesy"

We just got back from four wonderful days at WDW. While there, we toured the BLT rooms at SSR. They are classy, rich in color tones and furniture selection, LARGE, and just plain gorgeous. We own at AKV and were "wowed" by those models. THESE beat those by a mile. The furnishings are top notch and the rooms are so well done. FWIW, the LR in the 1BR feels just huge. For the life of me, I can't figure out why people go on and on about not liking the decor. Who cares about decor? It's a place to stay! Immerse yourself in the theme of something you might not choose for your own home!! Personally, I LOVE the decor. BTW, I also love the decor of AKV, GF, Poly....and those are ALL very different! We can't wait to stay there!!! For those who say CR/BLT lacks a theme, it was an original WDW resort. It is an icon. For those of us who have been staying there since the early 70's it VERY MUCH has a theme....Walt's dream! There's no place quite like it on property for me! The kids (us too) were so excited about the idea of being so close to the MK!.....:cloud9: Questions??????????

Thanks for posting & please let us know if you think of anything else re BLT you learned during your trip. Have to tell you we were a bit on the fence at first regarding the decor but as we see (& hear) more on it we find we are in fact really liking it :thumbsup2 !!

Personally, I didn't like the decor from the photos I have seen. However, that being said, I wouldn't mind staying there once just to say I have. I won't buy there, but I may try to get in at the 7 month mark once. If I don't ever get it, I am very happy to stay in my home resort.

I wasn't too impressed with the pictures I had seen, but when we were down there last week we saw the models. I really liked them - they do look much better in person. It was definitely a big contrast going from the AKV models to the BLT models, but I liked both of them in different ways. We hope to purchase BLT soon.

Room Decor? I hadn't noticed. ;)

Opinions are not "wrong" and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everyone has different criteria for what is valuable to them - its another opinion - and for some people that is decor. People have emotional responses to color - in particular. Simple things like ceiling height and room proportion can create a feeling of comfort or uncomfort in a room. And not everyone is going to react the same.

It would be nice that we could recognize and respect differences of opinion - even when that difference of opinion is critical of our beloved "home resort."

Or as the BCV owners started to say "fine, you don't have to like it - more room for ME."

I agree. OP comments didn't change my opinion of BLT one bit - but if someone else finds the rooms there attractive, good for them. You won't have me trying to book rooms at BLT which means there's more rooms available for others who do want it.

okay can someone save this for say 5 years from now.....:lmao: :goodvibes

everyone who says they won't stay there....

time will tell...

Woody- I totally agree about loving BLT- even though I haven't gotten to tour the models. We bought the first day. The only thing I hate is that we only bought enough points to stay in a 1-BR every 3rd year (with banking and borrowing) which means we have to wait until 2011- hmmmm, maybe I'll be able to get in at the 7-month mark with my AKV points before then. :goodvibes

Jade1- AWESOME PICTURE!!!! That view has me totally PUMPED!

Jade1 did you take that picture from the CR, or is that from another source?

WOW!

Great! Just Great!

I REALLY appreciate it Jade1. Now I have to go find out how to get more points... just when I thought 160 @ BLT was enough! ;)

I'm sure it'll be a very nice resort and I don't know that we'll never stay there - but it's not a decorating style that I personally find appealing. We checked out the building last week and it's definitely an impressive edifice. I'm sure lots of folks will enjoy it for many years into the future.

That's a very beautiful picture. And understandably, Disney is using that very same strategy to get people to buy at BLT. People will join if they love CR, spend most of their time at MK, plan on using the 'exclusive' fireworks lounge, want to see fireworks from their room, or all of the above. Even though a small fraction of rooms will actually have views of MK/fireworks (and then there's the lower vs. upper floor conflict), this is still a very effective way of getting people excited for BLT.

But...a very similar view is available from the tower next door (obviously where you took the pic from), where the rooms are more stylish, chic, and luxurious (in my opinion), and half the rooms actually face MK (compared to about 20%). If we ever want that gorgeous view, we can stay at CR or dine at California Grill, but a decent MK view isn't enough to make me buy there. Not everyone likes the same thing (BCV is more my taste)

Agreed, but... the tower next door is not DVC! :goodvibes

There is only one DVC resort with this type of view. And DVCers have shown in the past a willingness/desire for views (Boardwalk view, Savannah view, parking lot view  )

I think perhaps the close encounter gives one the appreciation of the quality of the furniture and fixtures and the feeling that it is by no means is "cheesy", but the style is what doesn't tickle my fancy. When DW and I were newlyweds this was the style we appreciated and lived in, but now... not at all. But that photo posted by jade1 makes me reconsider a visit if that would be the view. :thumbsup2

Some have, some haven't - again - its a taste thing. We own at the Boardwalk and I'm not that fond of the "wonderful" Boardwalk View (though its nicer now that the ugly hand is gone from Spaceship Earth). Granted, I'll take the Boardwalk view 10 times out of 10 over the crapshoot that is the Preferred view. However, I can't imagine staying at AKL (or VAKL) without having a Savannah to look at - that's the draw of the resort.

On the plus side, Disney has figured out to charge a premium for the view - they didn't repeat the mistake they made at Boardwalk. Perhaps they will rename the "preferred" view at Boardwalk to something more descriptive (first "standard" views become "value" views - then after several years preferred views become standard?)

I never said you can't voice your opinion. You like the decor, and I don't. Our opinions are allowed to coexist. But when you say "Who cares about decor?" or "For the life of me, I can't understand why people go on and on about not liking the decor", I'm allowed to address these points because your tone begins to attack those who disagree with you.

And if you don't want people to respond to the thread title, perhaps you should:
a) choose a different thread title
b) indicate that you aren't totally serious, perhaps with a smiley face (as you used a rolling eyes smiley in response to me ;) ).

Why choose a different thread title??? All it says is, it's not 70's and cheesy...as I've heard it described in this forum, BTW! And, my post was questioning.....not attacking anyone....except those who are looking for a fight or banter maybe? :duck: Further illustration of my point?? Now you're trying to banter with jade1 about the picture being taken at CR vs. BLT! :)

Point very well taken! :thumbsup2 I think you are right. For anyone on the fence, the viewing of the actual models absolutely does show the good quality of the furniture, fixtures and overall elements of design. That is certainly a representation of what contemporary design is today. Fashion and design trends have always been cyclical.

100% stolen from somewhere-I've lost track where, but I apologize to whoever.

I do remember they said it was from Contemporary though-so it could be further to one side, and also lower as pointed out. But still-there will be some great MK view stays to be had.

Woody, I for one like the decor, however did you feel that studio was large and spacious. I have not had a chance to see the models but based on the photos everyone has shared with the couch right up against the curtains and only a small shelf as the nightstand, I just can't see that as being a large, spacious room.

Maybe the one bedrooms will offer more space.

I will agree that the view is fantastic but at night while I am asleep, that view means nothing and when I get up to go to the john, the view will not impress me. Not walking into the walk next to the bed will.

Decor gets a plus from me, but based on the photos, the size gets a big thumbs down for the cost of these units.

Also I think everyone needs to remember we are not discussing anyone's personal choice in decor for their own home. We are discussing what DVC has chosen to sell as their top of the line product.

And frankly I am disappointed in them.

I, too, hate the decor and will never stay at BLT -- but, like everyone else, it's only because I can't afford it.
