new blog: Why do you cruise Disney?

Are you sharing the article or are you asking why we choose to cruise Disney? I'll answer anyway. We cruise DCL because we have kids. For us that's the only reason. We homeschool and cruise in the off season. One thing I know for sure that any cruise on DCL is going to have some kids on it. There are so many cruises on other cruise lines I would love to do, but I know there won't be any kids on the ship. I figure once my kids are in college( currently 5th and 7th grade) my dh and I can try all those cool itinerary's on other lines. When my kids are high school age we'll start taking some European cruises on other lines. Sadly DCL is out of price range in Europe.

Both. :) I always share my articles on the boards, plus this topic is interesting to hear others' answers and reasons!

Since the article has already been written, rather than starting an entirely new thread why did you not post a link in the "Why do you cruise Disney?" thread unless it were to draw attention to your own blog?
You would get comments from you bumping the thread?
As a journalistic article, I think you skipped over the reasons you chose dcl. Your kids don't pay the bills, so why would they not want to cruise another line? They should be very grateful they are going on vacation let alone a cruise!
As kids do not book cruises, your input as a parent would be more valuable to us than your kids opinion, IMO.

Our family is in the midst of planning a vacation on Disney Cruise Line (DCL) this January, so when I ran across a thread on the DISboards asking “Why do you cruise Disney?”, it really peaked my interest.

Sorry for the pedantry, but as a note, it's spelled "piqued". It piqued my interest.

I know. I know. I have to use my useless Journalism degree for something, don't I? ;)

For me, it boils down to a couple of things.

Show - and I don't mean the broadway type shows, although that's part of it. I mean that to Disney, everything is a show. I remember our first Disney cruise, we pulled up next to an RC ship in St Thomas (can't recall which one). Looking at it, the ship had some rust stains on the outside. It had some chips. Some places it needed obvious paint. They docked, and the people just got off. The Fantasy docked, and immediately the crew went to work. They got on scaffolds and started to hose down the outside of the ship. I was on deck once at 2am, and they were out there replacing a rail and painting another. Disney tolerates nothing when it comes to compromising the look and feel of their ships and cruiseline. They are ALWAYS on stage (it's part of the mantra of the parks, and it carries to the cruise line as well). they have the shortest time in the industry between refurbishments. They have a strong firm commitment to their ships always looking their best.

The little stuff - I generally feel that CM's always look for that little thing they can do. My wife got horribly sick on our first DCL cruise during lobster night. She is allergic to shell fish, and even though she didn't eat any, the juice in the air was enough. She had to go to the lobby because she couldn't breath. A whole slew of Disney people followed her like little chicks following their mother. They wouldn't let her out of sight. It was partly because of legal issues I am sure, but also you could tell - they genuinely cared. They went out of their way to make it up to her even though it was not their fault.

When we were back on the fantasy a year later, the room service host we had was actually the boyfriend of the one we had a year ago who was working a different deck. He fetched her, and we got to catch up. It's cool that she remembered us a year later!

At the restaurants, our waiter always had our drinks ready before we even came in. Since my wife had an allergy, he gave her the menu the night before and had it cooked in a different area away from the other food. It's all of those things.

Most important - TRUST. If something goes wrong with my vacation, I trust Disney to do everything within reason to make it right. I don't share that level of trust with HCL, RC and I certainly don't share it with Carnival.

Actually Disney Magic and Pixie Dust is the whole product, for adults and kids, the superior designed, and built vessels with the classic lines and feel, the art deco and Nuevo deco feel and just enough Disney touches to bring a smile to peoples faces.

A ship crew that is excellent and the best trained and I know that for a fact, because I know all the special training they get at American Maritime schools. Add to that how they have rescued many at sea, including being able to get the rescue boat in the water and save a person who fell off another cruise ship when the other cruise ship could not even get their boat in the water.

Their own special designed terminal and Bus service where the magic begins with videos on what's coming and Disney cartoons.

The excellent service,, yes other lines may have great service, but twisting that into saying its Disney Pixie Dust, doesn't work, Add great food and good family entertainment. The DISNEY characters that bring joy to the kids, young and old. Mickey and Minnie. Things like Animators Pallet MDR, food and mixers events and that is just starters.

One of my special experiences was we were taking the design of the Magic tour, (which by itself is a great tour) when Belle came around the corner and a young girl on the tour with her MOM, just cried out in joy. Belle spun around, flopped down onto the deck, lifted the girl into lap and calmed her down. She finally told the child that if she was at a door down the passageway at 1830, she could walk with Belle to a greeting session. Mom nodded ok, Belle got up waved good bye and I would bet a week pay that child was at the door at 1830 and had a memory that would last a lifetime.

Almost everyone in the modern world knows Disney and Disney magic and Pixie dust, not only from DCL, but also the Disney parks and many other venues.

The bottom line is the Disney cruises are special with real Disney Magic and Pixie dust only found on their ships. It is for the kids as well as adults.....it is a unique experience for everyone.

Ah, you're right! I'm normally so picky about things like that! Thanks, I'll correct it. :)

Maybe I'm missing something but isn't your blog article just a copy and paste of others' responses in the original thread? Oh well, enjoy your cruise.
