Back in March, I brought to you word of new styles for Disney’s MagicBands that began appearing all over the Net. This was just as the program began its official testing period involving the brightly-colored bracelets that allow guests to use them as their room key, park ticket, dining voucher, FastPass+ medium, and form of payment at merchandise locations. Since then, the Bands have popped up all over Walt Disney World property and are the topic of discussion among many.

Even though MagicBands are still in the testing phase – albeit a very large one – Disney fans are finding ways to personalize them. This includes the color options provided by Disney, additional purchase trinkets and fabric covers, and even using craft supplies like paint pens and rhinestones. For those looking for something more, I may just have found it. There’s a new style of MagicBand that has surfaced, and let me tell you, this one is definitely E-Ticket worthy.

In fact, it’s just that….continue reading to see it.

All very interesting I'm sure, just as long as the technology works. :rolleyes1

I had read when that pic came out that those were mailed out to a select group for a particular event. I can't remember if it was travel agents, press, or...but I remember thinking that all the hype over the pics was kind of a let down because they were limited edition and only for that group.

I've heard that these were given out at a conference today. While that may be true, I received word that this one was actually sent to someone who had a friend at Disney. Either way, I think it proves that they are thinking in the direction of making new designs, deluxe ones, if you will. I like that idea. We've heard that this was a possibility for awhile now; this seems to prove that fact. Exciting!

Not exciting this fan, causes more shrinkage than excitement. :sad2: Someone has a case of "Oooo, Shiney!!"

"All that glitters is not gold", eh?

"All that glitters is not gold", eh?

:rotfl2: So true. Might as well put a bar code on the back of my neck.

"But all thing which that schyneth as the gold / Ne is no gold, as I have herd it told."

I have yet to go to WDW where I don't have some issue with MM+ in trying to enter one of the Theme Parks.

I can understand bugs need to be worked out. What irritates me is the condescending attitude of CM's - that is it somehow my fault, as if my fingerprint magically transformed during the boat ride from Epcot to Hollywood Studios.

Yesterday I saw that Perez Hilton wrote a blog about a possible Frozen attraction in Epcot's Norway.

Nothing surprises me anymore. ;)

Even "Time" magazine has thrown it's hat into the ring...

I love that they call it "NSA style..."

"Made you look" - comparing magic bands to NSA tracking sells magazines but it is hyperbole. Right or wrong, no one at the NSA asked permission (and I recognize this isn't the place to debate it). The worst you can say about Disney and Magic Bands is that, perhaps, they have not done a full disclosure on how they will monitor the RFID chips. They have done a good of explaining, however, http://blog.wdwinfo.com/2013/02/17/disney-patent-hints-at-future-plans-for-mymagic/

I'm no fan of MM+ but it has nothing to do with concerns about Disney "spying" on guests who visit DL or WDW.

Jim Hill had that about 2 weeks ago and also advised that it would also be included in California.

But, anything that emits an RF signature can be replicated. I am still worried that if there is no inclusion of a PIN on every read of the Magic Band then the ability to forge a Magic Band/RFID Card RF signature is still very real.

I see this as a concern about the security of the MMP+ technology than about Disney spying. But I might not be understanding the concerns.

I share the security concerns - which is why I have an AP that is not used for charging privileges anywhere. If someone replicates the RFID chip signal in my AP, they get access to WDW (until May) but they won't be using it to buy Dole Whips.

Now I don't mean to be alarmist (especially not after using the word "hyperbole"). I suspect there are some practical issues with replicating or counterfeiting a magic band or RFID chip and being able to successfully use it at WDW.

i am waiting for the first resort room thefts.

i am waiting for the first resort room thefts.

Again, I am not at all saying this won't happen but practically, when people staying at a Pop Century (used as an example because the room doors open to the outside) prop their doors open with the dead bolt while they run to the pool or to get food, a thief is much more likely to take the easy route.

I guess there are thieves who might target Disney guest rooms using RFID cloning but someone who has that level of expertise will be more likely to target a much more lucrative victim where the payoff is higher and the risk of getting caught lower.
