new blog: Disney MagicBand Styles Begin to Surface

I am staying at the Boardwalk next month. Interesting that some guest there will be using them. I wonder...

Perhaps, that is not certain.

I'm really excited for this to start. I'm not sure if I would like the "band" or not...would probably loop it around a belt loop or onto a lanyard or something if I didn't like it on my wrist. A key chain though...THAT would be cool and also something to keep to remember the vacation.

Either way...I would pay to have a customizable one for myself (my boyfriend would probably just take the standard...in black) and I don't think it's ridiculous for Disney to charge extra for these. I actually think it's very smart and a good way for them to make back money on their investment. And seriously...I'm OKAY with Disney making lots of money. I want them to be successful so I can keep going back and so that they can keep investing in the parks and creating new experiences for me as a park guest. After all...customizing your magic band is a choice. The price to upgrade is not forced on you and you can simply choose not to pay for the upgrade. No big deal...it's not like customizing gives you any extra benefits...just a cooler band.

The pictures are older, however I'm fairly sure it's news that their may be keyrings and other things aside from the bracelets.

Also, not everyone follows it like a religion... :thumbsup2

Nope, that's been known, too. Lanyards were mentioned as well (though not in this link). I know not everyone follows this stuff (I'm going in May, so trying to keep on top of what's going on), but I just didn't expect an official post to a disboards blog about old info that makes it sound like new info.

Seems like old info here too.

When I first saw the announcement of the bracelets I wrote it off as "not my problem" so I really don't know much about them but it sounds like they might be in use by our trip this fall.

Has there been any information about the material the bracelets are made from? I only ask because I have some uncomfortable skin allergies...

Is it just me or does anyone else find the idea of paying more to personalize your bracelet just a little bit disgusting??

I just payed a little over a thousand dollars for 5 adult base MYW tickets. No hopping, no water parks, no nothing. The fact that my 10 and 12 year old kids are considered adults by Disney is ridiculous to begin with. Now some bean counter at corporate decides to offer different styles so they can make back the money invested in the new system.

I don't recall ever saying "gee this card in my pocket is so inconvenient". OK I'm done ranting now, I'm going back to my happy place of planning for our next trip.

If you were forced to sure but I think it's great that you have a colour choice to begin with. Loads of people will want to personalise them (price dependant) but no one has to.

As far as the 10/12 yo being an adult it is really more of a height issue and some parks charge based on height rather than age.

I have mild sensory issues. I can not wear anything around my wrists, so a keychain would be a huge perk for me. My youngest daughter is Autistic with more pronounced sensory issues. She has never encountered issues around the wrist, but given the heat and humidity, I would just pony up and do a keychain for her as well.

Price wise, I will pay $10 to let the kids each pick out a different color or design. Above that, and it would depend on the cost.

I look at it as a souvenir. $10 for a cute bracelet they like from Disney. Most people spend more in a week at Starbucks, or on a six pack, or grabbing a couple of packs of cigarettes. I would much rather splurge on the vice of Disney than any of that stuff.

The article mentions bands for AP holders. I'm hopeful AP holders will have the option of a ticket instead of a band. I keep my ticket in my wallet at all times but I don't want to keep a band in my purse at all times. Especially when DS needs a ticket next year, then I'll have to carry two of them.

I can't imagine a scenario where AP holders didn't have the same (or more) options as other guests.

Now if your ticket is on the band how to you access the current fast pass machines?

I like the look of the bands as long as I don't get a heat rash at the band site. I am not use to the humidity.

You don't. Once you move to the band you are on Fast pass plus.

Eventually, the current fast pass machines will be gone.

The article mentions that they are removable and readjustable.

Not many pictures have surfaced regarding the styles available. However, the one showing the character styles is something that only recently surfaced. Similarly, the news of the different options is something worth mentioning again. There will apparently be watches, key chains, and more. :)

Thanks for a great post! I'm excited to see the band options in action!

I like the idea but only if you can reuse them on future trips. If they are done after one trip I would be upset.

i think your statement is exactly why they will offer personalization for a fee. not only will it be profitable (that is the objective of any for profit business) but it likely will help with the cost of the system. they could just do a ticket increase specifically related to the new magic band system. but then you would probably not be too happy about that either. so in the end, i think creating a way for those who want to voluntarily spend their money on something is a good thing. or we could all just get 'hospital white' bands.

i feel like these bands might get lost more than your standard ticket.. i mean i take my ticket out to get into the park and it back in my wallet.. it only comes out if i'm charging something to it or for EMH, and if they are removable - just seems like they could come off at some point by themselves... :confused3 we shall see

I'm thinking they will more often be left back in the resort rooms.
