New Biometric Scanners at WDW!

This should make the line move more quickly. When we were there in Nov, we always seemed to have a problem with the scanner reading . Took way too long and the people behind us would get upset, but there was nothing we could do. Hopefully this will speed things up. We'll see....its still a machine.

That's not a problem at all.

People who can't use the finger bio-scanners (for a multitude of reasons) can opt for getting a "photo-ID" kind of ticket (the way all the AP's used to be).

This just popped into my head... we were talking about it in class.. (not the biometrics).

What if you don't have any fingers?

HI! That's me! I was born missing 6 1/2 of 10 fingers.( I can type using the other 3 1/2) They have never been able to have me use the scanner. They are great about it though. They just have to look for half a second then they wave me through. It was embarrassing the first time because I didn't know what to do, now I just hold my hands out to the person and ask them to help. Quick, easy and no attention called to me. I bet they have "seen it all."

Let's talk about having to be fingerprinted for work when you don't have 10 fingers....that was like an act of congress....

Without having seen the two finger scanners at WDW, I am having a hard time imagining what could be so difficult. At work we place our right hand down on a pad with 4 posts to seperate your fingers and it takes like maybe 3 seconds and then the door opens and we are on our way.

What makes the WDW system so difficult?

You have it down to 3 seconds because you do it every day (for years?) and know exactly what to do.

Now take thousands of people who don't know what to do, or don't put their fingers in EXACTLY the same way and the 3 seconds become 30 seconds. By the end of their 10 days at WDW, they will have it down to maybe 5 seconds.

I have one of the single finger scan units at work - we use them to log into our computers now instead of having to remember multiple passwords. The problem is that the scanner doesn't work equally well for everyone.

Not only does my unit at work fail to scan my finger appropriately so that I can get into the system, the ones at Universal this weekend didn't want to scan me either.

My IT department told me there are just people out there who just don't scan well. And I swear I have fingers and fingerprints! And to the best of my knowledge my prints have not been erased. :teeth:

I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has trouble every time I enter with the two finger scan. Somehow I never get my fingers around those two knobs in it just right. Hope the new one is better... :sunny:

We dread them too. We stayed at WDW for 2 weeks last year. WE just hated the lines because it seems so many people had a hard time with it. Luckily we didn't have any problems getting into the gates.

We did see one lady do it so oddly that just made us laugh to ourselfs. We wernt sure if she didnt understand fully how to do it or what. She was putting her 2 fingers all the way in and then draggging them back out. Just like your local cashier at a grocery store does when the barcode doesn't "read" the first 4 tries. haha.
I was thinking, "We need a price-check on a middle aged female" haha.

Since the introduction of the biometric finger-scan readers, Guests have always instead been able to show a government-issued ID - remember, all passes are SUPPOSED to be signed by the original user, so this is a valid alternate means of authentication.

Oh good, I hated those two finger ones. I could never seem to get them to work.

Even with the new system, NO FINGERPRINT readings are being taken. Let's not start rumors, please.

If you've ever rented a locker at Universal where it does take a scan of your fingerprint having the same system at Disney wouldn't seem that crazy!!

It sounds like they might be the same technology as the Pay By Touch system that Cub Foods is using here in MN. Here's a link to a description of how it works, what it measures, etc.
