I am looking to purchase need beds for the family I have 3 kids my question is they are 8 and 5 and I want the beds to last for a long time. Do you recommend gettting them twin or full? and what brands are you a fan of?

Also DH and I are also looking at the memory gel foam bed and select number bed any advice in the cons and pros of these beds would be great too. We have bought 3 mattresses in the last 6 years and have hated all of them. We have finally decided to invested in a good mattress.

Any help would be great as I am lost on where to start.

Simmons Comforpedic and if you get it at Mattress Firm you can exchange it one time after you have slept on it for 30 nights.

We had to upgrade our kids twins to full size a couple years ago (they are 18 and 16). I'd go with full if you have the room for them. We used Overstock to buy the beds.

As far as mattresses, we looked at Temperpedic and didn't like them. We did like the Sleep Number (bed number 8) but is was REALLY expensive. We ended up getting a mattress from Sears for our King bed (Sealy Posterpedic Francesca Firm). Our kid's mattresses came from Sam's Club.

Serta mattresses suck! My husband and I bought one when we first got married and it was awful! If you can find Bemco mattresses in your area, they are fantastic! The factory that makes them is in my hometown. I got a great deal on a full size bed for my daughter from JC Pennys. I thought really hard about getting a twin for her, but I'm glad I didn't. She's going to be tall and I don't think a twin would have lasted very long.

I have had a select comfort for about 10 years and I love it. I will never purchase a coil spring mattress again.

My three kids all have Simmons Beautyrest Classic full size. If you have the room, I would go with full size. They love the extra space because they all like to stretch out in the bed. Also, we love sitting in bed and listening or reading stories before bedtime. My dh is over 6 feet tall and his mom made him stay in his twin size bed. He didn't get a full size until he was in college. He said it was awful and refused to get twin size beds for the kids :rotfl2:.

I would recommend against Serta as another poster mentioned. They have a bad reputation.

There were rumors about the Select Number beds creating condensation inside the air chambers that produced mold. I don't know how valid that was, but sounds gross. We are a very "Made in the USA" family, and found a memory foam bed that is made right here in Michigan. It's called Capital Bedding and altho it was higher than a regular mattress (Mattress and foundation came to like $2,000) but it is the best sleep we have ever had!

Growing up, my siblings and I all had twin sized beds until we went to college. Even in college, if you live in the dorms, they have twin sized beds. I didn't get anything larger until I moved into my own apartment. It really just depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. Kids will be okay on twin beds.

Do you have Slumberland there? We bought our DS a twin set there 4 years ago. It's the Sealy Lights Out from their youth collection. It's very plush and DS absolutely loves it. Its such a nice comfy bed - he still sometimes tells me how much he loves his bed.

I looked on their site and they still have it. I did notice they also have twin xl and full xl (which I have never seen before). Honestly, you will be lucky to get 8-10 years at most out of a mattress set, so you will probably need to buy again when they are teeenagers. You could get a bigger bed at that time. That is why we went with a twin size.

DH and I have had a Select Comfort bed for 10+ years and we love, love, love it. About a year ago a friend came to stay with our kids while DH and I were away--slept on our bed and went out an bought one the next week. I cannot say enough good things about it. I've recommended it to many friends who have purchased it and our happy. I also have several friends who have bought foam mattresses and hated them, said they were too hot.

We will be buying Select Comfort twin beds for both of our boys within the next year or two. One son's room size cannot handle a full, so to eliminate fighting/whining, they both get twins. :lmao:

I love my select comfort. It is still in great shape almost 12 years later.

I HATE our Select Comfort bed. The amount of air changes based on the temperature in the room even though they say it doesn't. You can only sleep over your chamber. There is a piece of foam running between the two air chambers and it is so uncomfortable if you end up in the middle. They do have great customer service though! I wrecked the zipper once while washing the top and they sent a replacement for free.

We took down our bed a few years ago and went back to our Lebeda that we bought when we were first married 17 years ago.

I'd never buy a full size. Two people cannot sleep comfortably together. You can take two twins and put them together with a twin bed connector mattress pad to make a king if desired. You can also get an XL (extra long) twin for taller people. Just be sure to always buy the XL twin sheets.

I'd suggest purchasing Queen size. Our youngest DD's full size is so short for her now and she's still growing. The queen will give them a little extra "foot" space.
