New bag check line?

Saw that while we were there a couple of weeks ago too - much quicker when all you have is a small (read limited number of compartments) bag like a hip-bag or small purse

Seems pointless. They only spend about 3 seconds checking now anyway.

I agree. then you will have the folks with a "kind of small" bag hopping in that line, like the people with 20 items who get in the 12 items or less lane. If it means getting through quicker, people will push the limits.

Not in my experience. It never failed I ended up in the line with a) a person that had 10 bags to look through or b) the guards switched while I was standing in line and the new one was much slower than the previous checker.

Well, 10 bags is 10 bags no matter what. And same with guard changing. I fail to see how a diff line for "smaller" bags will do anything other than confuse matters.

You forgot to include the guests that take 5 minutes opening all of the zippers on their bags.

Something similar happened to me at EPCOT about a week ago. I was behind several people with large backpacks, and the supervisor guard called me over to an empty table to check my smaller "hip-bag". Saved a bit of time getting into the park!

My bag was tiny, and I got to do this "small bag" line once--can't remember which park. I did see some very thorough bag checks going on. Epcot on a Tuesday was especially crazy long bag line in the morning. I was just going to hop on the monorail to go to MK then come back later to Epcot for F&W and a dinner reservation. So I ended up going through 3 bag checks that day.

The only think in my very small bag was a wallet and a phone charger (I put my phone in my pocket to go through the check. I probably would have put everything in my pocket, but two of my group had bags also, so we were waiting either way. Once it was just my DH and I then I just put everything in pockets since I didn't need much!

I'd go through the normal bag check line anyway. I have a very small bag but it has five compartments, four of which latch in some manner. Yes, it's small but I unlatch all the compartments before I get in line, hold open all of them and get through in a jiffy. So, if a small bag is just a size thing it's not really that easy. I just know to unlatch and hold open while someone with a similar bag could be in the small bag line and take a while to unlatch. And then there's my husband who takes a day bag, not a backpack. So, it's a bag he can wear on his back with should straps. One thing to unlatch. It's canvas so his check is faster than mine. But, if "size is the issue", he'd have to go through the regular line and I'd be able to go through the small bag line.

very cool idea :-) We won't qualify - I have a biggish bag just one big compartment so easy to check (I don't carry a lot in there) but they would never pull me for a small bag line. DH has a multi-compartment Lowe-pro camera backpack that he has to give the CMs a tour of - he somehow always gets the guys who used to work for the TSA. I'm going to keep an eye out for the small bag line - if nothing else that will give me something else to do while hanging out in line!

This will work if you are pulled out of line not if there is another line as people won't realize it is for small items only. I hope that they will still be doing this when I go in Sept. I hate getting in line behind a person who has a stroller, stroller bag, back pack and stuff under the stroller when I just have a small cross body bag. Now that we have magic bands I could probably just put my phone and id and cash in DH's cargo pockets, but there is just "stuff" I need to always carry in any purse I use.

Sometimes it seems silly to check small bags while guys with huge side pockets on their shorts can go through the no bag line. I don't even want to think about what could be carried into the parks in those pockets.

I carry a big cross body bag, but I unzip all the compartments before I go through.

if i was already in line i wouldn't want to be pulled out to be placed in a different line.

besides if i'm the only one in my group with a smaller bag then i'm not going to lose sight of them since i'm visually impaired so i'd insist on sticking with them.

i've never found a problem with bag check no matter what size bag i have.
it only take a minute and then i'm on my way.

I forgot to mention I saw a woman with a large backpack try to move to the small bag line (just ahead of me). I was happy when the bag checker made her move back to the regular line.
