New article comparing Universal to Disney

My DD is 11 and that's exactly how we see it.

They mentioned 10 years old for kids outgrowing Disney.
It's more like 8. Once they reach the height requirements for the IOA rides, it's over.
Daughter went to Epcot with her school and said it was cool, but I haven't been back for over 3 years. We may go next year for Mission Space. Sure, the kids will say they want to visit Disney because its fun, but I want thrill (fun) rides. Suits are scared to build them because the GP thinks they are scary, thus the "fun ride" name instead of "thrill." Eisner will get it one day.
100 million for mission space? For that much money, I hope the ride part is cool and not a letdown like TR at PKI. You could build two MFs (Millennium Force) with that kind of money. Or a couple B&M inverted coasters and have a super Deuling Dragons, plus enough money left over to build the B&M (Peter Pan) Flyer.

I think the article is right on the money about older kids also. My kids ride coasters as soon as they are tall enough. We just barely got my 6 year old on Apollo's Chariot in Williamsburg a few weeks ago. He loved it! He can't wait to got on Kraken, Hulk, and Dueling Dragons when he gets a little taller. Dr Doom is his favorite ride now!

My 10 yr old has been riding coasters since he was 2 at Hersheypark. It would be a waste of money to buy season passes to Disney, even if they priced them as reasonably as our Universal and Busch passes.

Disney is also developing an optional Internet service that aims to keep its guests booked to the minute: click here to reserve lunch at Cinderella Castle! Then it’s a 2:30 p.m. ride on Splash Mountain, a 4 p.m. mud wrap at Disney Institute’s spa and a monorail to Epcot for dinner.
This is from an article comparing WDW to IOA on msnbc.com interesting huh!

This was my favorite line: Universal has even produced, but hasn’t yet had the chutzpah to broadcast, a TV spot with an ersatz Mickey wandering up to Universal Studios and saying, “I want to see what I’ve been missing.”

Not sure what I think about that. Tacky? Maybe...

I will always be a Disney Fan and now that I'm getting older, the thrill rides don't draw me like they used to (headaches, upset stomach, etc). I prefer the attractions that don't bounce me around. I do have kids though and they are still craving the fast stuff.

Both companies will still get my money for now.

I thought a neat commercial for MIB would be a family riding It's a Small World. They'd be bored out of their minds. Suddenly, Will Smith's "Men in Black" song echoes in the background. Some of the Small World dolls change into aliens. Two MIB agents appear beside the family and hand them MIB guns. The Small World boat changes into a MIB vehicle and the family guns down aliens and dolls.

Another neat idea would be to have the same family on It's a Small World. They then hear the sounds of a T-Rex stomping in the distance. The T-Rex crashes through the wall and eats the dolls. The Small World boat changes into a JPRA boat and they go down the drop.

The slogan could be "Universal Orlando: Escape from the Mouse."

Gee, I could work for marketing. Where do I send my resume? :jester:

We have always felt that the competition between USF and WDW is a good thing. To put it mathematically:

WDW + USF + rivalry= more good stuff for us!

As long as the two try to out-do each other, the beneficiaries will be the customers. Even if you don't visit both, you'll still find that each is constantly upping the ante to try to stay ahead.

Mission space(not out), aerosmith coaster and tower of terror. Sumed up it's a park that's behind. Hulk isn't a current character and still thought of as a sick ride. So I dont think the plot on that one matters too much. IOA rules
