New article about FP+ done by msn...

Does something read your band/card when you leave?
I'm curious how they have an accurate head count of people inside the park, if they don't know who's left.

I doubt corporate types spend too much time in the parks, TBH.

There is no visible/obvious way of tracking people as they leave.

Compared to that, FP+ looks pretty darn good.

I saw that too and was infuriated. It's just Disney flat out lying.

I understand Disney not wanting to admit what a failure (and yes, it is a failure) FP+ is, but the ways they try and spin it into something better than it was before are just so ludicrous, you'd think somebody in PR would tell them to just remain silent about it.

::yes:: Yes, because that hole they are digging .... !

Mesaboy2 :rotfl2:

as per the article that said they were cutting back at all parks because of it), that third would have bought 3 brand new top level rides. Or maybe 6 re-do's of rides they have in other parks.

They could have even fixed Splash Mountain. Properly.

Blasphemy! At least the "cake castle" only lasted a year. Wait....maybe there is still hope. :rolleyes1

If Iger meant that they could let in 3,000 more people at Christmas because they were more accurately able to know when the attendance was at an acceptable level again, then it is possible that your band is "pinging" something as you leave the park. I don't know how and why they decide to shut parks - I am assuming that it has to do with occupancy figures - in which case, they can't accommodate 3,000 more people unless they KNOW that the occupancy has gone down.

Now, if they do it based on an internal "comfort" number or some such Disney number, they can certainly choose to increase that arbitrary number to say they got 3,000 more people in the park. The more I think of it as I write, this is the only way they can truly say they got these people in since at Christmas, there were even less people with pinging bands than there are now. I call PR spin on that 3,000 number.

They have to have a way to monitor park attendance and there has to be a way to count people as they leave. I just can't see it anymore, but I know it's there. :)

Looks delicious!

But, I don't want to meet the person with a knife big enough to cut that.....

Yes, they would have to otherwise people would be trying to stay in the parks after they close.

I've seen them using clickers at TL but I haven't noticed it anywhere else -- doesn't mean they didn't do that at other parks though.

Oh I have a finger in mind to use!

Oops. This is a PG discussion.

Lol!!

The way you said that made me think of Walt Disney.

They certainly have gotten off track since Bob Iger was put in charge of everything. Somewhere there's a pattern to all of these changes, and I think it comes from not really knowing how it feels to be a guest.

There is a pattern. I have seen both in my years of working. I've worked for and with upper level managers who are great with people and not as good when it comes to business sense; and I've worked with those who have incredible business minds but no people skills. Both of these types can lead effectively if they recognize their shortcomings (it's only human - we all have them) and delegate someone adequately skilled to fill the gap where their skills are lacking. I get the distinct impression Iger thinks if the model works the guests will get used to it. He has forsaken one very important aspect of basic business: the customer base. Once you have a loyal following you can actually get away with quite a lot. But push the limits too far and you have so much more to lose.

I completely agree with them being out of touch but not sure Iger deserves a hug.

Posters on the Dis are often saying Disney would never spend the $billion plus on this if they didn't know it was going to improve profits but I wonder have these posters never worked anywhere where upper management is completely out of touch. Or worked somewhere when a new software system was being installed and even if the testers are finding problems it gets pushed out to meet deadlines. There had to have been IS folks at Disney saying this wasn't ready to be pushed out but I'm sure someone's bonus was tied to its roll out.

Exactly, the Disney execs need their feet on the ground. It's easy to sit in an office with a computer program and think you know how something will operate in real life.

IM ON A DIET! All this cake talk is driving me batty!

Ok, if you must know....... Somebody said Cake and my mind went to a slab of carrot cake at Boardwalk Bakery. This PINK thing will give me nightmares!

Nope. That wasn't a mid-Atlantic earthquake. It was my tummy rumbling!

Please tell me you don't like FP+. If so, you may in for a world of hurt. :lmao:;)

I know cake is my favorite- Hershey's chocolate frosted or coconut.
The pink thing is a dream. Imagine a cake that big with pink icing enhanced with crushed peppermint pieces.

"A Disney World spokeswoman says 80 percent of the comments on social media about MyMagic+ have been positive, and just 2 percent have been negative."

If I had to guess, I'd say that someone was a crummy proofreader and forgot to put a zero behind the two. The spokeswoman probably said the split was 80/20.

Even so, this still puts her in the "chardonnay-on-her-cornflakes" category. Just not in the "vodka-on-her-cornflakes" category.

First cake, and now vodka talk. Y'all are killing me.

How long did New Coke last?????
but did new coke cost over a billion dollars. Also new coke is a consumable product. Mymagic+ is a product to enhance experience. A lot of people are comparing this to new coke in some threads and its different because its a consumable product. I also highly doubt coke spent even close to a billion dollars on that product. It did last longer than a year so it had some success. Also new coke isn't a computer system where it has glitches that can be fixed, it's either you like the soda or you don't.

From Coca-Cola themselves:

The Coca-Cola Company introduced reformulated Coca-Cola, often referred to as "new Coke," marking the first formula change in 99 years. The company didn't set out to create the firestorm of consumer protest that ensued; instead, The Coca-Cola Company intended to re-energize its Coca-Cola brand and the cola category in its largest market, the United States.

That firestorm ended with the return of the original formula, now called Coca-Cola classic, a few months later. The return of original formula Coca-Cola on July 11, 1985, put the cap on 79 days that revolutionized the soft-drink industry, transformed The Coca-Cola Company and stands today as testimony to the power of taking intelligent risks, even when they don't quite work as intended.

And here is a good article about it. So much rings true...
