New article about FP+ done by msn...

well I think by more capacity they are letting more people get FPs than before because everyone only gets three instead of everyone gets however mayn't hey get. They also just opened up an expansion which does allow more people into the MK because there are a few more things. A new successful restaurant, little mermaid, belle, two dumbos, princess fairy tale hall etc. they can't factor in mine train yet because they don't know how successful it will be or how many people per hour it brings in. Based on their facts FP+ should shorten wait times in standby and should give more people the ability to ride what they want. In theory the new system is and should be great but it hasn't proved that yet. Again it's still not finished who knows if it ever will be. Magic bands by themselves I think are a great concept your room key, park ticket, credit card, and FPs all on one band instead of carrying a park ticket, room key, FPs, and your credit cards you just need the band. I think the biggest problem people have with the system is FP+. My one question is with your parents if they don't ride a lot of rides why is magic bands or FP+ a problem for them it shouldn't be that big of a deal just a thought.

My parents still do rides, just not on the scale of a commando who wants to see everything. I think the issue for them isn't the limit on the number of FPs. For them, it's the method of getting them. They tend to not plan ahead because they know the parks well and would just grab FPs for Soarin' or other favorites in the morning when they arrived. They've gone enough and were used to what they could do with FP. This new system doesn't seem like an improvement since they don't plan ahead about where they'll be. While I recognize that you can change FPs in the parks, it's not something they want to do. Also, they don't have smart phones.

Maybe they are talking about the number of people who actually use the term "MyMagic+" in the 80% positive?

So that takes out most rants about FP+

ok I understand but really this should make it easier to get FPs because you go to one place to get all three instead of going to each FP location to get one. You don't need to plan ahead they just allow you to do that. There are still FPs available the day of I haven't heard of a day yet where there hasn't been. And you also don't need to have a smart phone thats why they have a bunch of kiosks all over the place. Like I said before it's not an improvement for everyone in theory its a great system but in reality its different.

Your points make sense in terms of how the system could function. I think the larger issue is what it involves up front from guests who aren't as tech-savvy and have developed a certain approach to touring. That's going to be a challenge for Disney from a marketing perspective, even when the kinks are worked out.

"I'd say the biggest impact is, one, being able to accommodate more people because it's just more efficient," Iger said, "and second, enabling guests to have a substantially better experience than they've had before because they're doing more."

Does anyone else feel like they want to put their arm around Iger, pat your hand on his back as one would console a young child who just fell down and skinned his knee and say "there, there, now...poor baby...."

Wow, this guy is TOTALLY.OUT.OF.TOUCH Honestly, it's scary how out of touch these people are right now.

MSN is my home page and there was the article front and center with the Castle and the term backlash...not good press at all.

I swear Iger and the Disney spokeperson must be smoking crack. 80% positive that is laughable.

Don't know if anyone has posted this, but MSN has gotten in on the MagicBand debate... http://money.msn.com/technology-investment/post--disney-bets-big-on-visitor-tracking-technology Don't know how much this will help/hinder Disney marketing? It makes it seem like they are hearing A LOT of backlash... Anyone have thoughts? Do you think negative media could possibly make Disney make more abrupt changes? Let the debate begin!popcorn:: Updated: This now shows up on the front page of MSN.com...it seems like this news item will be making the rounds :)

"A Disney World spokeswoman says 80 percent of the comments on social media about MyMagic+ have been positive, and just 2 percent have been negative."

This may be true, as long as they count NUMBER OF POSTERS (more significant) rather than NUMBER OF POSTS...

I read the article.

Iger and the "Disney spokeswoman" are both delusional.

no kidding!

EVEN IF, most of the on-site guests were favorable (which is clearly not the case), I can't imagine anyone believing that the 50% of the population consisting of the off site guests would be 80% in favor and only 2% negative.

The author of the story does a nice job of dismissing the 80/2 claim though.

I agree and then there are those who have never been or only have been once or twice before where they won't know anything about the system.

BINGO!

I'd wager 80% of visitors do, indeed, like their Magic Bands. As for the other aspects, well, that is a very different can of worms. Their wording was very careful.

That makes sense. Everybody I know loves their magic bands. Personally, i am not going to like them until my discount cards are linked and I don't need to carry around all the extra cards.

This was my favorite quote...

"Still, Tom Burnet, CEO of Accesso Technology Group, which makes queue management systems for theme parks, says his company's experience with ride scheduling at parks in Europe is that people don't like to schedule their days in advance. "One of the joys of being in a theme park is you're not on a schedule," he says."

::yes::

the biggest problem is that its confusing to book fast pass plus. I have been to Disney like 10 times in the last 3 years and even I get stressed out trying to figure in my head when to book fast passes for because you have to take into account how long the ride is, what other rides you may want to do in the area and how long they take, how long the walk is to the next fast pass location, when I need to have a lunch break planned for. Its pretty much terrible and if I was a newbie I would likely just book something and then be pissed when there was no way to actually do the plan that I had made. I love the magic bands, but I hate fast pass plus. Give me the old ticket system any day

Agreed. Didn't like the MBs or FP+ but I do like MDE -- love being able to see all of our reservations in one place.

Interesting that more of the comments are concerning being tracked rather than the number of fastpasses.

The old fastpasses tracked you too. Your ticket information was printed on the bottom. So they knew what fastpasses you pulled and when. Of course, the magic bands do more than track fastpasses. I was kind of shocked when I got an e-mail saying my photopass pictures were expiring. I didn't do any photopass. When I signed in, there were 3 ride pictures with the date and time.

Hate to to say this, but you guys? Are that %2 of people who are negative. Don't kid yourselves.

lol :rotfl2: some people would totally hate that.

I have no problem with them tracking me -- it's my name on the reservation, it's my name on the credit card. But not kids -- it gets icky at that point.

And yup - interesting. Assuming the majority of posters are not wdw fans (although it seems a majority of the replies are) it is really interesting that they have this perspective. And those are the potential new guests.

I would guess that we were part of the 30% on this board that can figure out that 3 < 6...or is it 6 > 3....math is so confusing.

You do realize that "social media" consists way beyond this board, right?
