Hello,
I'm training for my first half marathon.... Disney in 2010! I'm 26, chubby and would much prefer watching a movie at home than running. But I decided that I want to be a runner, run the Disney Marathon some day and get fit....
So here I am.

I did the first 5 or 6 weeks of the C25K program while it was warm enough to run outside. Now I'm just running/jogging/power walking on the treadmill 3x a week after work. I really hate the treadmill, but it doesn't make me dizzy anymore and it gives me a chance to listen to Trapped On Vacation. It's not all bad, I guess!

I'm pretty nervous about the race in January. I run very slowly but I'm determined to finish. In the next few months I'm hoping to increase my endurance and pace.

That's about all. Does anyone have any tips? Should I join a group? What do the groups do? I was thinking about signing up for a Cliff Bar pace group at the actual race to help me finish. Has anyone tried this?

TIA!:flower3:

Hi MapleGirl!

Welcome! :cheer2: You are going to have a blast!

I did the Cliff pace team in '06 but I didn't stay with them through the race. I'd recommend it, though.

I'm in Burlington, MA-- we're neighbors!

I tried running with the Cliff Bar pace group for the marathon, and I had a hard time keeping close because of all the people. I found that it took a lot of energy just to keep them in my sights so I ended up going on my own about mile 8.

Good job with your training and staying with it! Keep it up! Your pace will improve.

Hi and Welcome to the WISH Team!

I'd recommend doing what you are right now. Join us here online, pick the weekly thread where you will get all sorts of answers to your questions. We also currently have smaller groups that will be starting off as of the first of the month. You can join in there and I'm sure you will have fun with that too.

Stick with it and we'll get you through that finish line! You are doing the right thing by keeping at it and have enought time to be successful in your quest!

I can't wait to share this experience with you as you work your way through the year.

Hello fellow Bostonian and :welcome: . It sounds like you're off to a great start. There will definitely be times when you're worried or nervous, but try to relax and enjoy. You can do this! :cheer2: Last January, I could not run a mile. Thanks to a lot of training and tons of great advice and support from WISHers, I just ran the WDW marathon this January.

There are so many helpful people here. Jump into the weekly thread and/or join a team. You'll find lots of support and encouragement here. :goodvibes
