New AKV owner with questions

I am confused, I just bought a 1oo point AKV. Prior to my vacation, I had spoken numerous times with a guide over the phone. When I booked my tour, the guide was not available the day that I could do the tour.
So DH and I went, and a lot of things that the original guide had told me over the phone, the new guide said none of it was true.
1. the 1st guide said I could pick which month I wanted, suggesting to pick January since I would get the 08 points, the 09 points and than accumulate another 100 pts this upcoming Jan, giving me points to have fun with.
2. I have a referral who has been so kind to me, giving me lots of info and the original guide said she would get a referral bonus, which I think she deserves!
The guide that we did the tour with, said I could only get Dec UY
The guide said my referral was not entitled to a referral bonus, since I am getting the promotion of $13 off per point ( I am paying $99 per point)
I have until Sept 12 to change my mind about this deal. THis 2nd guide just tells me that my original guide is misinformed, and that he is sorry.
I don't think that I was asking for anything unreasonable, are you able to pick the UY, aren;t all DVC members entitled to a referral bonus since they referred you?

I'm not sure how Disney works the referral bonus, so I won't comment on that question. However, in terms of UY, you can pick any of the 8 available UY (UY do not exist for January, May, July, or November). If your original Guide offered you a January UY, then he was greatly misinformed. Disney may push one UY over the others (right now February is the predominant UY for BLT and December is the predominant UY for the new SSR points), but you can, and should, ask for a UY that works best for you.

The person you used as a referral should still get a reward through the Sharing The Magic program, but you wouldn't qualify for the extra dollars off with having a referral as that promo just ended a few days ago -- maybe that's what Guide #2 was talking about.

If you really like Guide #1, you need to talk to someone in management @ DVC as they were your first point of contact and should still be assigned to you.

AKV has been selling for awhile now...it could be that the use year you requested is no longer available. Perhaps you should give Guide #1 a call to ask and also use that opportunity to re-establish a connection with them.

Have any recent purchasers at AKV received 2008 points? I only got 2009 points (which seemed reasonable) for Feb UY, but I will go back to my guide if someone can confirm this as part of his/her deal.

I can't see how they could get 08 UY points, since they're long over. Does not make sense. Now we bought in Oct/Nov 08 with and with a Dec UY and got our 08 points then, but it was still 08.

I bought 160 points in June 09 with a dec use year and received 160 points from 08 use year. We used some to extend our stay. Banked the rest for next year!!

That's because you are in your Dec 08 UY right now. Dec 09 UY doesn't start until Dec 1, 2009.

That makes sense. We effectively received our allotment of points when we placed the down payment, and six months later we will receive another allotment at our usual time (Feb).

So has anyone essentially received 2x their allotment of points when you signed on?

My guide couldn't apply the referral discount to the deal that I wanted.

I asked if the person who gave me the referral would still get the reward.

He did not directly answer my question. He said that a member is only entitled to 5 rewards per year for referring people. The person who gave me the referral has already received 5 rewards this year, so she would not have been entitled to another one even if I were getting the referral discount.

The program is called Sharing the Magic. The types of rewards are:
a) Disney Gift card
b) Visa Prepaid card
c) Credit toward a DVC points purchase
d) dues credit

I don't know if this is part of the website which you can't access until after you make your deposit.

Also, I think I read on another thread that the laws of certain states prohibit people from getting the rewards.

Your February 2009 UY began on Feb 1 2009 so if you purchased on that date or later you will only receive 2009 UY allotment points; 2008 UY points would not be available because 2008 UY ended on Jan 31 2009.

We got a DEC 08 UY start when we bought in April. So we essentially got a year worht of points for the first seven months of our contract. This however was contingent on a Jambo House contract being available. Since Kidani did not open until the spring of 2009 it is impossible to buy a contract whose points begin in 2008.

As to OP's questions, the second guide who said you could only get Dec UY may have been referring to the fact that Dec is the earliest you can get now to get 08 points, although I question whether they will even go that far back now. First guide was just plain wrong because there is no way you can get a Jan use year (it does not exist) and no way you can get a use year with points that has already ended -- anything that started Sep 08 or earlier. You should be able to get a use year that started in the last four to five months and possibly as early as Feb 2009 (or even Dec 08 if that is how far they will actually go back).

Don't know enough about referrals to respond except everything I have seen on referrals should mean the referring member should still get his or her award.

If you want a UY different than what has been offered, talk to your guide and insist. As other's have said, at this point, with AKV, the only UY's that would even be eligible for 08 points are Oct and Dec--every other UY has started their 09 UY. And, in order to even get the 08 points for Oct and Dec, Disney has to still have them available so it is not a sure thing.

As far as the referral, I just had this discussion with my guide this week. He said that typically, as long as the referral was given before purchase, even if there is no buyer's incentive, the member should qualify for the Sharing the Magic reward, providing they live in a state/country that allows it (as some do not).
