New AKV Contract UY question

I really don't feel like picking up the phone and calling my guide just yet so I'm hoping someone here will have some insight first....

We're thinking about buying 160 pts at AKV direct through Disney. We would prefer a Sept, Oct or Dec UY. 1) Can you specify to Disney which UY you want or do they just say "We're only selling Suchandsuch Use Year right now" (our guide on the tour was not very helpful and thus, I will not be calling him at all, we have a different guide now). 2) If you do get a Dec UY through Disney, do you get 08 points right away AND 09 points? Or would we have to borrow our 09 points if we wanted to vacation before Dec of this year?

Yes, you can ask for whatever UY you want and if they still have points available for that UY, they will give it to you. I just added on at BLT--most were getting Feb UY but I wanted June and that is what I got.

As far as 08 points, it depends. I heard that they do not have that many 08 points left to give out so I think it will just depend on what is left when you call. I read on another thread that someone did just get them but were told that only 200 points remained that carried 08 points.

It sounds like you might already have found a different guide, which is good since I believe that a great guide is important. Mine is very good and knowledgeable and always available to answer my questions and even went the extra mile to be sure I got the contract that I wanted!

Be sure you have a member referral as it qualifies you for all the incentives!

Yes, you can choose a different use year than one Disney is selling at any particular time but not certain to get 08 points. Nevertheless, for your info, someone reported on these boards somewhere in last couple days that he just recently bought at AKV and Disney was selling a December use year that has Dec 2008 points.

We bought AKV with a DEC '08 UY for Jambo House.

First of all, congratulations!!

To answer your question, for me, it would be much more important to get the 2008 and 2009 points, regardless of when the UY was. My guess would be that there are probably only are a couple UYs left with available 2008 and 2009 points, so you have to decide which option (more points or a specific UY) is best for you.

Your points will be immediately available to you, probably a week after you sign and return your closing paperwork. We actually bought while at Disney and were able to call and make a reservation immediately, but if you close by mail it will take a couple of days to get you into the system.

That was me, and it was for August UY. I think the reason is that at AKV, only points deeded from Jambo units include the 2008 points since Kidani did not open until 2009. Could be wrong though.

Other UYs might have more or fewer than the 200 (now 150) 2008 points I mentioned.
