Ive seen on some other threads that they're going to change or already have changed the age groups and the place they will be meeting. So if u have a mexican riviera navigator please scan it so I can see if they've put 11-13 yr olds in ocean quest or not.

thx

It is definite the 11-13 years old have been moved to Ocean Quest on the MAGIC for this summer. We don't know if that will be continuing after this summer. This is a trial period for this age group in OQ.

Glad to see it's not just all "chillin" and that they actually have stuff to do for the 11-13 year olds..
But then again, things could change...

Another change is that now OQ is exclusively for the 11-13s, except for a brief open house each morning till 10 or 10:30. They used to have more open houses and occasionally bring the younger kids in there, but they said they wanted the "tweens" to have their own space.

That's encouraging. I thought I remembered some discussion with the CMs on our last cruise about having a place just for 11-13 yo. My then DS12, spent all of his spare time at the OC. He wasn't too excited about spending time at the lab at all . . .LOL Thanks for the reminder. During the EB cruise we have one at OC and one just "barely" (by only 7 days) qualifiying for the Stack. From the WB REPO, it looks like they have great activities planned for both the tweens and the teens. I'm just missing them NOT being able to wander the ship at will.

Thanks everyone for sharing on this . . .

So does this mean the 10 year olds will be with the 8-9 group? If so this will make dd's very happy! (they will get to be together)

As of now, that is correct. My DS will be happier, too! It hasn't been said if the change is permanent, or if it is on the Wonder. As of now, it is on the Magic for the summer.

Your link definitely had the information that I was looking for . . . THANKS! Our two younger children are so close in age that they would want to be in the club together, and, hopefully, that will still be possible in 2010. (They will be 8 & 9.)

I like this very much. I have a daughter in the "tween" age group and the thought of her at age 12 or 13 in a club with 17 year olds does not make me happy. This is very good news indeed.

The timing was not the best for us, though. My niece turned 10 on our cruise, and we excited to be able to have her been in the upper age group of OL with her cousin, 12.

The counselors were great and let my niece join OQ, but there is a lot less structure, and not nearly as many organized activities as OL, especially after dinner. Lots of "chillin" and "hangin".

The girls enjoyed themselves immensely, don't get me wrong. However, the activities they talk about the most were the ones they went to in the OL. I think in OL and OC, the activities are specifically geared toward including every child. They make friends much faster. The older kids are a little "cooler" so if the activities do not include many bonding activities.

Again, the girls had a blast. But we (my DH and I) spent a lot of time trying to persuade the girls to participate in OQ activities. I think maybe both of them were a little too young for OQ...

New age groupings were much better, but the counselors really need to hold the line on younger kids going into The Stack. If you have a child under age 14, they really don't belong in there. My son said that the counselors kept allowing underage kids access, and they were destroying things, dropping video game disks down the elevator shaft, and as a result, these younger kids were really picked on by the older teens. It would just be better for everyone if kids of all ages had be checked for admittance if a counselor suspects that someone isn't at least 14. The new group for 11-13 year olds was good, but using the Ocean Quest space is just too small for the size group this attracts. After all, this space was just carved out by combining two conference rooms. Disney does a good job at moving the groups around, so they are not always down there, but they really need a bigger space. The activities for all age groups (I have kids in 8-10, 11-13 and 14-17 groups) were great, nicely varied, and my kids spend the majority of their cruise either in the clubs or with new friends made in the clubs. Way to go, Disney!!

:lmao: So you cruised with the demon heathens! Someone on the Aug Repo was on that cruise and sat next to that family at dinner. THe kids were left in the dining room while the parents went to Palo and the kids climbed on the leaves around the windows in PC, broke the shakers on the table and plates and threw food at other guests, resulting in one table actually leaving the dining room after the main course. This person was voted to go to Palo to advise the parents of their children's behavior and the parents didn't seem to care. She said that they also broke the Wii in Diversions. The kid didn't seem to make many friends after that and clung to the counselors. They do have times for the 8-10 yos to go to the stack and hang out but I agree that DCL needs to figure out how to discipline these unruly kids if the parents won't. Customer Service or not...it isn't right for everyone else's cruise to be ruined by 10 brats.

Wow!:scared1: I sincerely hope that the parents were presented with a bill for the broken stuff! I'm surprised they weren't asked to leave the dining room...

For a second I thought this thread was about a "New Age" group. Duh, me.

According to the reports, nothing was done. We have decided that this is just one more thing to put on the list for uses for duct tape on a cruise ship. Our slogan...Duct tape...it isn't just for your own children anymore! ;)
