Am I the only one excited about the new doll? I cannot wait to see her. I just watched the video trailer of the movie to be released 1/6. The theme is all about fitting in and standing up for yourself and others against bullies. I cannot wait to watch it with DDs and use it as a learning lesson.

I too am excited. Just got an e-mail from AG about a special meet the doll event on Jan. 1. I'm tempted to take DD. DD8 is absolutely excited about her. The bad part is... a month ago DD really wanted Samantha for Christmas. So, I ordered her only to find out she wouldn't be shipped until 12/18. I did what any indulgent mother would do, I ordered a backup doll (Mia). Of course, both Mia & Samantha arrived in plenty of time. But, now DD hasn't mentioned wanting Mia or Samantha. She keeps saying she doesn't want an AG for Christmas because she really wants Chrissa. I can't decide if I should go ahead and give her Mia and ebay Samantha. Or, ebay both and give her a trip & $ to get Chrissa. That's what I get for planning ahead.:confused3

You can always return one of them to AG and get a Chrissa.

I'm excited about Chrissa as well since my DD in 5th Grade is dealing with the "Mean Girls" at school and my DD in 3rd Grade dealt with a couple about a month ago-the ones that she dealt with had older sisters and I think that's where the younger girls get it from!

We're going to AGPNY on the 30th so I'm going to ask my personal shopper if I could get a sneak peek at Chrissa. We're also going on Jan. 17th for my DD's 11th birthday!

Well, since it is so late and I'm 2 hours from the nearest AGP, DD is going to get Mia. I really think that once she sees Mia, she will not want to give her up. She told me tonight, that the reason she hasn't mentioned getting an AG for Christmas is because she wants Chrissa for her b-day in June. I guess she thinks getting one now will ruin her chances for her b-day. Silly girl. She hasn't caught on yet that I'm a complete sucker for AG dolls. I like them almost as much as she does.

Have you seen the trailer for the Chrissa movie? We watched it on the Kit DVD and it kind of "choked me up". I remember how mean girls can be and am not looking forward to this stage in my DDs life.

Enjoy your trip to AGPNY. Hope you get a sneak peak. I can't wait to go to AG Chicago.

I got that email today too and I'm thinking both my girls would love to make an overnight out of it. I have to see what DH is working because I can't take the boys with me too, I can just envision the havoc they'd wreck in there! :scared1:

I saw the trailer and I wonder what age everyone thinks this would be appropriate for? My DD is 7 and has not really encountered this type of meanness yet.

What grade does this type of horribleness start? It makes me sick just thinking about it!:scared:

I was in the same boat. In October DD6 was saying how much she wanted Mia. DH had a trip to Chicago, so he got Mia for her to set aside for Christmas. I was getting worried, because she has not said a word about Mia for a month! I got the email today about Chrissa and went to the AG website and she saw Mia and got excited, then very worried/sad when she read SOLDOUT. I can't wait tosee Chrissa though. I have a feeling she will be next years Christmas present.

This is a pretty big move on AG's part. Three LE dolls? You're breaking my bank here AG. :rolleyes1

You're DD is lucky. We had a a trio of Alina's who acted like the girls from the movie Heathers and this was in preschool. Such mean and manipulative little girls. Funny enough I later met an adult at a birthday dinner with same name who turned out to be a raving public racist. Tell me there has to be someone out there with that name who's normal?

It really depends on the child and the other kids in class. I found with oldest DD it started in 3rd grade and now 4th grade is total drama fest. The scary part is even the nice girls feed into it. I hear 5th grade is even worse but then it tapers off for a while when they hit middle school and they are all the youngest in the school. I really fear high school. We are hoping DD's involvement in sports helps. I found sports teams tend to stick together so no one really was picked on.:sad1:

I would definitely keep Samantha, even if you don't give her to your daughter since they will be discontinuing her soon. She may be worth a lot of money in the future.

I teach 5th grade and the mean girl stuff gets really bad with them in the spring. I spend all year sitting down with groups of girls and trying to teach them how to "work things out." (the things we don't that aren't on standardized tests!!)

My oldest is in 4thand it's been REALLY bad this year. I'm DEFINATELY getting her the Charissa books and am actually going to order HBO just so we can see the movie.... then I'll buy it, of course

I don't know how to post a link but if you do a google search for American Girl doll of the year 2009 there are pictures of her out there. She is very cute. DD got 3 for christmas, the grandparent don't know how to say no, want her because she looks just like her.

I'm guessing LE means limited edition??? However its more than 3 this is the seventh limited edition doll.

Chrissa is adorable! My dh just told me tonight no more dolls (my dd has 7 AG dolls and one bitty baby) but I told him these are keepsake dolls and dd is so careful and plays so nicely with them all. She'll want Chrissa and I want her to have Chrissa. I'm going to let her watch the moive on hbo when it comes out and we'll probably buy it as well. I think its a good life lesson to learn even at the young age of 5. We had neighborhood kids be mean to dd a few summers ago (where we used to live) and she took it very hard. We have since really built up her confidence, gotten her involved and many activities, and made sure she knows that she's a good girl and its nothing she's done that makes kids be mean...they just aren't being nice. Since then she's really able to put aside kids that are mean and hold her head high. I hate it at such a young age she's already had to experience these kinds of things. I dread the years ahead...ugh :rolleyes1

Does anyone know when the books will be avaliable? Hannah is dealing with this stuff in school daily and I would love for her to have them asap. Both of the Charissa books and the non-fiction as well. I don't want to trek out to our local bookstore until I know they'll be there

I love American Girl Dolls. I think the Dolls of the Year are pretty cool... I just wish they didn't put Samantha in the "AG Vault" :rotfl: . She's one of my favorites, and she started it all.

I think they'll take her out in ten or twenty years. Hopefully in time for my daughter to get one.
