New additions to come to the Ft. Wilderness resort

Has anyone heard anything about this? Wondering if they are adding a new restaurant or just building a new place for the BBQ or Hoop Dee Doo?
Other than cabin renovations, the Fort hasn't seen much 'new' in a long time. That place must be a goldmine for how little they have to do and how much they make on sites and golf carts.

The bizjournal article was the first I've heard of anything.

I know that Disney removed a number of cabins to allow for more tents/camper space. This might be in conjunction with that

This sounds great, I can't wait til we get more details. I wonder what they have up their sleeves.

Hopefully they aren't planning to get rid of River Country. I've always hoped they would reopen as a pool area for Fort Wilderness.

Below is the plan from the permit. The permit was originally submitted on 5/3 and the SFWMD requested further information on 5/27. The permit was withdrawn by Disney on 7/27. I presume they are re-working the plan to address the SFWMD's concerns and will eventually re-submit it.

River country won't open as a pool area for ft. Wilderness if anything happens to it, it will be demoed for the long rumored DVC in that area.

Turns out that this is a permit from 2011, and they have just recently withdrawn it so it looks like this isn't happening.

Yep, old news, slow authors. It was based on a larger project in 2011, but the Wilderness Lodge DVC took place instead. As an avid camper at FW I am glad to see this plan scrapped, as well as a lot of people who camp there regularly. As you can see in the plans, the oversized parking lot was going to replace the petting farm, horse stables, Mickey's BBQ, and a large shaded play area which we and a lot of others utilize to play with the kids.

Don't forget all the trees that would have to go.. Squirrels would have to take up residence in your camper. :)

The squirrels at Epcot are the worst, don't feed them. They'll take your food and try to take your woman.
