New Add On Offer - Extra Points

Guess that Disney is having a hard time selling their point. Normally they wouldn't give anything away. Or at least the points are not selling as fast as they want them to.

This lowers the price to 158$ pp for a 125 point contract.

Perhaps Disney want to "clear" the inventory of some points before rolling out the sale of the new resort (I can't remember whatever it's called now). I am surprised there isn't a better discount on AUL considering it has been for sale longer than PVB. Plus, the spread between resale vs. direct for AUL is so large that makes it more difficult to sell direct. PVB has at least held up its resale value for now, which makes it not worthwhile to go the resale route.

Not sure this indicates anything new in the sales picture. There's little difference between giving "extra" points or simply discounting the sales price. Its just the latest sales campaign.

Makes you wonder if they will push back Copper Creak sales and opening.
Seriously doubt it. There can't be all that many units at the Poly so those won't last too long. Aulani seems to be a different beast which appeals more to those on the West Coast.

All that aside, they've already invested a bunch of money into the Copper Creek project and they will be anxious to start earning money on its sale so no way would they hold back.

On 10 contracts of 125(135) points that will take 100 points out of their inventory, so it adds up and lets them keep their price point.

IMO they are making the offer because they are getting ready to announce Copper Creek sales in a couple of months.

I wish they would set their points limits a little lower. I would definitely consider adding on but i don't need to add on that many points. If we wanted to do poly every 2- 3 years year we would only need to buy 50-60 points

I agree with above. And 10 extra points...big whoop. How about 10% extra free points on whatever amount you buy? Buy 70 and get 77.

This is something like the offer they had on the Member Cruise. I do not remember those particulars, but yes you got more points in your purchase. I am not interested, so did not pay close attention.

Sales & discounts are always structured to accomplish specific goals.

Why do stores have "buy one, get one free" sales rather than just marking each product down by 50%?
Why do auto manufacturers offer attractive cash back offers or lease rates on some vehicles and not others?
Why does Disney offer "free dining" one week, 30% off room rates the next week and "buy 5 nights, stay for 7" the following week?

This type of "free points" promotion is nothing new for DVC. It first surfaced back in early 2012 when they offered an even more attractive 20% points bonus. By comparison, under today's offer buyers need to purchase at least 100 just to get a 10% bonus.

Oh, and the retail price today is $171 for Aulani. Four years ago it was $135.

The goal of any business is to sell the most product for the highest price.

Probably won't push it back as others mentioned already. In fact, this promo is likely intended to clear more inventory of points at existing resorts so that when DVC rolls out the new resort, the sales pitch can focus on that instead of worrying about "stealing" sales from PVB, IMHO.

It has not been uncommon over the years for the to offer specials, discounts, extra points. It seems they'd rather raise the price and offer a discount to get back to square one than leave it the same. This is not uncommon in business or rentals in general. I've heard business people say they raise prices periodically just to remind people to expect it.
