Just to confirm, my math was off as I switched savanah and standard room counts so this change likely would be point neutral so error on my part. That said, legally it’s not clear if they are allowed to move points between room categories. They have done it before without challenge but that doesn’t mean they legally can. In fact they recently tried few years back and had to revert changes when pressed. Back then there were discussions and at time people who looked into legality made compelling arguments against it.
First I believe the language around adjusting
point charts specifically calls out adjustments to balance seasonal demand. There is no such language that grants them authority to balance across categories.
Second, and I think more compelling, each unit that is declared specifically declares specific rooms. It is very likely for any resort the change across room categories is moving points from one unit to another. For akv, this is blatantly clear since the jambo only room categories went up and all savanah rooms, including kidani, went down.
I don’t legally own 310 points at akv, I legally am deeded a percentage of a unit at kidani that is represented by the 310 points. With this change, my legal ownership is diluted as the number of points in a year for my unit is now less then required to book so my unit has over 100% ownership based on points we have.
Edit to add: if I happened to own membership of unit at jambo defined with value or concierge rooms I 100% would be calling them now to ask when they would be loading the additional points I now own based on my % ownership of that specifc unit which now has a higher point total.
