New 100 point buy in for new owners INFO

But he also said that one of the kickers on the 100 point buy in, is that your add on, assuming you make one later, has to be 60 points.

So no 30 point add ons until you've reached the 160 point like everyone else.

I wonder if your guide isn't mistaken here (it wouldn't be the first time). Disney doesn't currently treat any member differently - a member is a member. This would be an odd place to start. And since folks who join DVC with a 100 point resale contract can buy a 30-point add on - the distinction would be to treat folks who buy direct from Disney worse than those who buy in via resale.

This could be a way for an existing member to start the process to change their UY without buying 160 points. I might have to think about this...I could buy 100 points AKV with a Fall UY and then could have my GCV add be in the Fall instead of Feb which is my current UY.

I just spoke with a DL guide and he confirm I could buy a new 100 point AKV master contract with an Aug UY and be in the GC Founding Member Program.:thumbsup2 I think I see an add-on in my future!

I think it makes great sense. Now, I remember why I didn't buy DVC in the early days, the 200 plus points. It was a turn off to me. With gas prices what they are, people are using their extra money to fill their gas tanks. It only makes sense that Disney is going to have to make some cuts somewhere.

DH and I only bought because we could get a 100 point contract. We would still not be owners without our 100 point contract. We would have also considered purchasing from Disney if we could have gotten a smaller contract. Sending that big check to a company over the internet made us a little  .

Like someone else said, we don't have kids and can go in the off season.

I think there are a lot of people who would be much more willing to purchase DVC if they can get a smaller contract.

What is the difference between Jambo and Kidani? My husband and I had looked into becoming DVC members last Dec. when we visited but decided against it because of limited funds but the 100 point buy in is more realistic for us. We are renting points for another vacation in December but Disney has become a yearly vacation for us so I am definately interested in revisiting the idea of purchasing. Can anyone explain to me exacly how it works as far as going about the purchase? What are the closing costs? What about anniversary month, that is a little confusing to me? Last year there was an incentive of extra points given as a one time thing, is that still available?

Hello Everyone,
I wonder if you can get the incentive if you purchase 100 pts. This sounds like a great deal to us/:cool1:

Hi all. My first post as a DVC member!

I'm "Rick", the guy who tipped this off. My wife and I did not intend to become DVC members (we are also in the process of buying a house and just wanted to see the room) but this hooked us in.

It's good for younger couples who don't have a ton of leeway in their income but enjoy going to the world on a regular basis. It's also going to be REALLY easy for Disney to take your refund check now ($1200 check...$1040 the down payment...it's a wash).

We really can't buy any more points right now, though I wish we could. And while we haven't really been affected by the economic downturn (no kids), we certainly are cognizant of the effects, and it was a somewhat tough decision to buy in lieu of this.

Here are the other thoughts. Our first payment won't be due until Mid-August, which helps us out, as you might imagine. And because Kidani Village isn't ready yet, annual DUES aren't collected until May 2009. So for the first six or seven months or so, we'll be paying just $120/mo.

We already have a regular trip planned for mid-August, so this all worked out very well for us. I'm sure we aren't alone -- I could see this hooking a LOT of people on their summer vacations.

I am a little confused by what you mean "$1200 the check ... $1040 the down payment"?

I believe he means the "free money" from the United States Gov. that each adult $600.00... that files a tax return, doesn't make above a certain amount, according to my CPA...qualifies for this rebate. If you have chidren, you get an additional $300.00 per child.

I totally get why they are doing it...it pushes the price below 10 grand, which is an important psychological barrier.

We bought in right when they dropped the points to 150 back in 1996 (It had been 220 before) and it WAS important that the price was under the $10,000 mark...of course, this was back when points were only $62!

Actually when DVC opened in 1991 the points were 230 to buy in. Then you could add on in increments not equalling 230 points. That's why you see so many 230 pt OKW contracts for sale.

First time posting here and a relatively new DVC member. We originally purchased at AKV in Jan of this year with 250 pts. While at Disneyland last weekend, we went to the DVC member event and added another 350 pts. The incentives we received for the add-on were $8/point, two annual theme park passes, an Adventure by Disney vacation for 2, and a (1) night stay at the Mickey Mouse Penthouse in Disneyland. After we completed our add on sale, we were also told a "to expect to see a increase in the cost per point after Saratoga is sold out" (which should be happening soon). Of course this was an unofficial statement from a DVC rep, but you know how those go. We also were able to see the model for the Grand Californian DVC resort. It is the same design as AKV, but of course with a different decor. DVC rep said they were going to use this model to sell Grand Californian and then would convert it and use it as the model for the DVC resort that is being built in Hawaii. Those of you who have been DVC members longer may be able to shed some more light, but this is from this past Sunday nights event.

Does anyone know if you can split the downpayment? Can you pay half up front and the other half the following month?

Those are some wonderful incentives. Did you get the $500 gift card as well? The adventures vacation is worth thousands. Plus theme park passes free for a year and then the Penthouse to boot. You did very, very, well.

I wonder why those types of incentives are not available through our guides at WDW. It would pay to find a guide out in Calif to purchase from. The incentives are worth it!!!

Hi Manny,
One more thing, can you buy AKV points for the same deal. If the answer is yes it may be interesting to me. Can you pls PM or email me with your guide's name and phone number.
Thanks,
Marylyn

Alot of other retailers are offering promotions or discounts to attract those checks right now. I think the checks are being mailed right though the summer...could be why this is a temp drop in buy in points....We had to buy resale to start with a smaller contract and then add on. Would have gone direct if it was 100 pts...

Marylyn- It will not allow me to PM you back yet, not enough posts but I did receive your message. I did buy at AKV and I believe that was the only resort offered. Is there another way I can send you the info you need.

Ok, so questions about this have been asked for nearly a week now and I have some concrete info about it.

Yes, you can now buy in at 100 points as a new member. This is only available for Animal Kingdom Villas. You can only buy at exactly 100 points (not 110 or 120, etc), or you can go with the 160+ point option.

This is available at all locations (WDW, DL, Chicago), including by phone.

There are still contracts available at Jambo House, though most will be Kidani (I was able to get Jambo with a Feb use year). There are NOT developer points available for this offer (at least for now).

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Also, if you need the name and phone number for a DVC Guide, please PM me and I will send you his info. I am so impressed with my guide! He was awesome!
roselark -

I can not PM because I do not have enough. But would you share your guide's information with me? I would like to contact someone to get more information and I was not impressed with the guide I had previously. Thanks!
