New $1 Coin

:thumbsup2 much better than the paper ones, they get too ragged too easy.

I was wondering when they'd get rid of the Dollar bills. :thumbsup2 Wasting too much paper each year; why not have coins for everything?

I thought I'd used dollar coins when visiting Philadelphia in 1989 - but I must be mis-remembering. $1 coins would certainly be easier to use than the paper ones.

We have had a few dollar coins over here...but they never catch on. I think the Susan B Anthony coin was the one that looked too much like our quarter and people kept using the wrong ones. The last one I think was just a temporary one...it was gold and had a native american on it.
I'm trying my hardest to get used to all of your coins. I know as soon as I move over I will be fine, but I remember last time I was there handing someone a 5 pound note and getting a handful of change and I was just so confused by it all. My DH laughs at me as he has a hard time here with all the paper...he always has it stuffed into his pockets and cannot make any sense of it when he pulls it out.

Looks good :thumbsup2 I just wish their notes were different sizes, cos they all look the same :)

This is a commemorative mint , like the qtrs. with the states on, they are releasing 4 per year with all of the past presidents in order of office.
I've asked DSIL to get me the first one as she is off to WDW this weekend.:woohoo:

When I pay in cash in WDW I tend to use a larger denomination note every time I make a purchase so by the end of the holiday I have quite a stack of $1 notes LOL

I guess I'm going to have loads of $1 coins now :)

Yes, coins have been introduced several times over the years but they have never really caught on. A recent poll suggested approx. 75% of Americans preferred the dollar bill to a dollar coin.

In other words, this is nothing really new (don't expect a sudden change from dollar bills to coins). Dollar coins have been used for a long time, they're just rather rare.
