Never hear anyone talk about Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill - Good, Bad or Ugly?

We absolutely love Mexican food. This will be our first trip to California in a very, very long time and would love to try what Disney has to offer. We normally eat TexMex, being from the South, though we love the Mexican food from the Arizona/New Mexico region. I'm sure there are a wide variety of opinions about this one, but would love to hear as many as possible. Thanks in advance.

It's ok. Nothing special, just typical Mexican take out quality.

I ate at Rancho del Zocalo and thought it was fine (except the lime chips, which were much too salty and heavily flavored, and I don't mind salty food at all!).

I haven't eaten at Cucino Cucamonga but my friend (picky eater) likes it and ate there twice. She did not like Rancho del Zocalo. I don't remember if they offer the tamales year around but she got one of those in December and loved it. Her mom ate there too and I think was OK with the food. Neither of them like very spicy food, though, for what it's worth.

I ate there for the last time back in 2005, when I got food poisoning from an extremely dated bottle of salsa they had on the table. It tasted funny, which is what prompted me to check the date, it was 2 years past expiration.

It wasn't a fun drive back to Arizona...

I like it! I think it's one of the better deals at DCA, considering the food quality, and that fact that you eat on REAL plates, with REAL silverware. ;) My favorite is the soft tacos plate, with chicken tacos. Even the rice and beans is on par with what you find locally at Mexican restaurants.

They now use salsa PACKETS instead of a bottle on the table. No worry of spoiled salsa, at least!

At DCA, I only eat here and at Taste Pilot's grill. Best two CS options, IMO.

Ate there, liked it, would eat there again. I got a burrito, which was good, but my sister got a salad which looked mighty tasty too.

I agree with the PP, here and Taste Pilots are the two top choices in DCA for me.

I agree with brergnat! I like it and think it's a good deal. It's also, as Dobie says, typical take-out but you're not going to find much in DLR that isn't.

Skip it and go eat at Tortilla Joe's taqueria in DTD. :thumbsup2

Sorry, have to DISAGREE with this suggestion. That place is overpriced and YUCK! Sorry...but I cannot stand dark meat chicken, and this is what they use for all their chicken dishes there. Probably more "authentic", but something that just makes me wanna gag...

Don't go to TJ's....I got sick from eating there and we haven't been back.

We love Rancho in DLR and we found Cocina to be very similar, it's not the best Mexican food but it's not bad. I had chicken tacos and they were very good. :)

Did you go to the Tacqueria (walk up window) or the sitdown restaurant? Totally different food - walkup is great. We have only ever had white meat chicken, and we have been many times.

Why do you think dark meat is more "authentic"? :rotfl2:

I don't do sit-down Mexican - I can make better at home. But the take-out is NOT overpriced and is pretty good.

Perhaps you're used to Taco Bell?:confused3

We did the take out window, the girls did take out from Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, DBF and myself got sick, the girls did not. Every other meal we ate at the same place so I'm sure our sickness was from TJ's. I am aware that they took out the window and now it's a bar area and I have heard inside is different but we still don't have the desire to go back. :)

I don't blame you. I've gotten sick from take-out and I still can't go back to the place that will remain nameless. coughcoughJackintheBoxcoughcough.

They didn't take out the window, though. They actually made it a legit counter service restaurant and even put more tables and chairs in a patio area. Ooh, and totally OT, but the take out from Jazz Kitchen has the most to die for bread pudding. :thumbsup2
