My wife and I are planning a late July 2016 quicky trip to WDW (10th Anniversary of the DIS). We're in our 50's and usually visit WDW in the spring and fall when crowds are low and heat is less (with tongue in cheek o_O). We're looking at POR for our resort (the nostalgia theme again)...........What are we looking at here?

I know heat will be an issue........but are crowds really that insane. All the crowd calendars mark all of July in RED!:rainbow:

.......a little nervous

Hot, humid and can be crowded. We like you do May and the Fall. Never June though August,

Big crowds, hot weather, normally afternoon showers. Summer months are brutal.

Yes, the crowds really will be that insane. And the heat and humidity will be worse than you're prepared for.

I would pick another time.

On a side note, I'm confused by what you mean when you say, "10th Anniversary of theDIS."

I can only speak from my experience but we have always traveled to WDW during slow or moderate crowd times and this year because our kids are a bit older we decided against taking them out of school and went the week in August before school starts. We thought since it was so late in Aug that it would not be as bad as going right smack in the middle of summer. The heat we expected and I will say it was as hot as we thought it would be. But it was definitely more crowded than what we were used to and the combination of the heat and crowds made this trip a bit more of a challenge. The crowds were definitely manageable and it in no way ruined our vacation. We still had a blast. However if you are not used to summer heat and crowds and spoiled like we are it will definitely take some rethinking as to what you are used to if that makes sense. I don't think we will do that time frame again unless we had to.

Have you ever spent time at the therapy pool at the YMCA... this for 12 hours with 200 people... That being said as long as you know, stay hydrated and take breaks you can still have a lot of fun!

The timeframe we're looking to go, and the reason for the trip is the DIS (not sure if its just the DIS or DISUnplugged podcast) will be celebrating their 10 year anniversary............we love DIS events! :P

Must be the podcast.

Hot. Crowded. So much hot and crowded. But we still manage to have an awesome time! Change your expectations from those wonderful off-season trips and you can really enjoy it.

We did July this year.. very hot, crowded, humid oh do I say very very hot add the occasional downpour.. But we did have an awesome time.

HOT, HOT, HOT:sunny::sunny::sunny:..crowds will be bigger due to school letting out and summer vacation probably:car: Great resort to stay in though! My husband and I are staying in French Quarter in a few weeks...CANT WAIT! :yay::yay::yay:Good luck with your planning!:D:D:D

I don't think it's as bad as everyone states. However, we have only been during Summer and Spring Break. You probably aren't going to see big holiday crowds, ie Xmas, July 4th, but there will be crowds. Have a good touring plan. We always use Touring Plans.com. Do rope drop and preferably AM EMH. If you need to, take a break in the afternoon to relax at the hotel, then head back out in the evening, when the crowds are a bit less and it's a little cooler. We have a kid in school, so it's our only choice. However, we keep going back, so it must not be that bad. We are also from Texas, so we are used to heat. Definitely hydrate. If you don't normally do TS, I would suggest it. It's very nice to take a break from the heat in the AC and to sit for a quiet moment. Also, look for less crowded places if it's too much, like Tom Sawyer Island, Ellen's Energy Adventure, etc. POR is great. We stayed there in March and will stay there again either next March or June. Lots of stuff to do there.

We always travel in summer. Yes, it's hot. Yes, it's crowded...but it's never that much of an issue for us. You go to the parks at rope drop, take breaks to swim and shower, drink lots of water, etc...

You can also read summer trip reports on the trip report board, to see how different people make it work.

Have fun!!

Will you still have fun? Yes! Will you look at each other many times during the day and ask yourselves "what have we done?" Yes, you will. Will you look at each other many times during the trip and say "never again" Yes, you will. How do I know this? Because we have visited many times during November then decided to take a June trip one year. The heat, humidity and crowds are beyond brutal. The MK was the best park, the hottest we have ever felt were at HS and the WS. Good luck!

We did July 7-14 in 2013 and it was pretty busy, but we just did the 19th to the 25 this year and it was MUCH less crowded. Sure it was obvious hot and there was a quick afternoon shower every day, but as veteran park visitors we had little planned and just kind of went with the flow! My best advice would be to utilize the afternoon break even if is just for an hour. We did this every day and it was a lifesaver!

Yep, the crowds are THAT bad. Be prepared for scorching temps, rain, and long lines.

So............count on the heat........we already take afternoon breaks (hey........I'm older :P)..........as far as crowds...........IT WILL BE CROWDED.......but there's always HOPE :-)!

Thanks :thanks:
