Never Been to SEA WORLD...Help!

Hello

We are going to Disney World in December and have decided to go to Sea World for a day. We have never been but have talked to friends that have. I was just wondering if some of you Sea World veterens could give me some tips of what to see and do or not to do while at Sea World.

Well my motto is that if you are going to Disney World do NOT skip Sea World BUT I absolutely LOVE dolphins & the Shamu show. I was just on the website as I will be purchasing our tickets for our upcomin trip, Dec 2nd week. , it said that they will be decorated for Christmas. My hubby LOVES the Annheiser Busch experience in the rear. We have been there three times and we have previously done the Luau which is neat but that could be booked by now. I hope you go, it is fun.

We managed to fit in all of the shows, too. Our absolute favorite show was the Pets Ahoy! show, followed by Blue Horizons. If we go back, we'd skip the Clyde & Seamore show...it was hokey with a capitol H! The Shamu show was fine, but somehow I was expecting more -- I don't know, maybe more stuff about the whales. Then again, we went there last and were wiped out, so I might have enjoyed it more earlier in the day.

You don't say if you have kids or not - or what ages - but my DD particularly enjoyed the Happy Harbor...though it was probably because they were Trick-or Treating and gave out LOTS of candy. DS (9) was wanting to ride Atlantis so I took him there. It was probably a bit more thrilling than he bargained for and it almost ruined our trip to Disney because he was afraid to ride ANYTHING for about 5 days!

The Hospitality Center has THE BEST turkey sandwich I've ever had! And it's huge -- plan on sharing.

The Shamu show that they use to have was fantastic. They use to tell about the whales and showed their power. They changed the show now to it is a choreographed show that tells nothing about them other than show a little about the power of them. I wish they would put the Shamu show back into rehab and bring back the other show.

We went to SeaWorld last Saturday (first time). At the end of Believe (I guess that's the Shamu Show) we looked at each other and said, "That's it?". I really expected more.

Our favorite things were:
Feeding and touching the dolphins at Dolphin Cove
Blue Horizons Show
Pets Ahoy
The mime making fun of people coming into the Clyde & Seamore Show
Petting Stingrays
DS10 LOVED Kraken, I couldn't go on it because I had a sore neck and back from sleeping wrong.
DH's favorite part was the free beer at Hospitality Deli

We missed Wild Arctic because it broke down after we waited 30 minutes in line. We also didn't go on Journey to Atlantis.

We find Sea World a relaxing park to visit rather than an exciting one.

Our son loves seeing the Dolphin's and Penguin's, although I must admit we do not tend to go on the more intense rides such as Kraken and Wild Arctic we do find a stroll around the park enjoyable.
In addition the Happy Harbor children's playground area is excellent, especially the water attractions when the weather is hot.

That is more what I was expecting from the Shamu show. I'm with you - change it back!

They paid way to much money to change the show back to the way it had been for over 30 years-----and literally in those 30 years it only changed a little. They added more whales and the trainers got in the water with them more than they did in 1976. Personally I think you see just as many of the whale's natural movements as you ever did. They just tried to enhance it sort of Broadway style and make a production out of it to try to get part of the Disney crowd to check them out. I think it will improve as time goes by and they get rid of the quirks in it. But then I am probably one of the few that thinks being splashed by the whales is really not an important part of the show. I think just being able to see a killer whale is exciting because I would never have the chance to see them in the wild.

Much of Sea World is shows, so make sure and pick up a guide when you first get to the park so you can plan your day.

Exhibits that you can visit anytime:
Key West (stingrays, turtles and dolphins)
Manatee
Sea Lions
Penguins
Sharks
Wild Arctic (belugas, walruses and polar bears)
Anheuser Busch pavilion (Clydesdales and Beer!)

Also, if you have younger kids, Happy Harbor is a great play area.
