Dh suggested a Fri-Fri for a CA visit, but probably just 3 days for Disneyland. We haven't been . We've been to WDW 3 times recently (in past two years.)
So, is June just crazy talk? Too crowded to be fun? Dh suggested October, which would be okay, too, but June vacation is sooner, and that sounds pretty good! LOL Plus, it has to be WARM for me to want to get in the pool, and June should be warm for that! But too warm for the park, maybe?
ThoughtS?

Thanks in advance!!

I'd like to know this too. How bad is June at DLR--I couldn't find a crowd calendar.

Okay, Here are my thoughts about going in June. If you go in the beginning week of June it shouldn’t be to bad at least during the first week kids are still in school for at least one more week.

The Pros: about going in June is the parks are open later, the refurb on rides are less likely (break downs do happen) entertainment shows (fireworks, Parades ,ect) are everyday. This is Disney’s peak season.

The cons: VERY CROWDED, especially on the weekends. Prices of hotels go up. Its Hot during the day not Warm and cold at night.

If you go in October which I would recommend the park is decorated in Halloween decorations its really cool. Its warm during the day and the crowds are low except Friday ,Sat and hit or miss on Sunday. I personally think you would like it much better in October then June , but there are cons going in that time of the month. The parks are not open late , less parades and firework shows mainly on weekends . I think if your going from Friday - Friday that is plenty of Disney and you will enjoy it a little more in October and still be able to go in the pool to swim. I went in December and people were swimming in an outdoor pool. What I learned about going to Disneyland as many times as I have is don’t rush and over exert yourself just have fun I hope this helps you out in your decision .

There are no crowds calendars for DLR like exist for WDW. You can tell what level of crowds are expected by Disney based on park hours. When the DL park is open 8AM-Midnight DLR is expecting it to be crowded.

I am not sure what the OP means by "crazy". IMO I have never seen crazy crowds in the summer at DLR. Crowds? Yes. Crazy? No. If you get a nearby hotel for 3-4 days (or more) the crowds are very manageable IMO. And what crowds do exist have dropped noticably over the last 2-3 years.

Is it unbearably warm? Well, that too is a matter of opinion. The typical June day reaches a high of 80 degrees. Pretty tame in my experience. For more data on this see

It looks to me like even in August, the temps are much milder than in Orlando at the same time period. Just my observation.

Obviously we all have different thresholds. I would not categorize June as "very crowded". It is busy no doubt.

And I would not categorize it as "Hot not warm". Days with average highs of 80 degrees and evenings in the 60s are about as perfect as you can get IMO.

So different strokes for different folks. If everyone agreed with me then June would be very crowded because that is when everyone would go! As it is many folks avoid summer which helps spread around the visitors throughout the year. :cool1:

My point here is that June (and summer trips in general) can be enjoyable. We always have a blast and it is my favorite time to visit DLR. :)

Thanks HydroGuy. I booked a trip out to DL for the week of June 21st. I know it will be busy, but that's ok! It's been over 25 yrs since I have been at DL and we suggested DL as a change of scenery for our daughter's 10th birthday. Her bday is in May but we cannot take them out of school, so we are going after school is out. I just want to see everything, and see the park that Walt built and enjoy the CA sunshine. I want the sun and warmth, but I think it will be less humid, at least I hope so.

I keep reading your very informative posts too! Much appreciated!!

My family loves Disneyland in June. After many trips we have found that the third or fourth week in June best meets our needs. Typically all rides are open (not counting temporary break downs), there is a full entertainment schedule, parks are open longer hours, and the weather is great.

There are crowds but we find that with a little planning you can still have a great trip. I am from Western Washington so 60 degree nights are practically balmy to me and 80 degree days are not too uncomfortable.

We will be going June 20th - 27th this year and I can’t wait. Whenever you decide to go I am sure you will have a great time. Have fun.

i would be careful about assuming that crowds will be low in october. anyone who hung around these boards this past october can tell you that a LOT of people were met with very large crowds on their october visits to DLR.

we were there the last week of september and it was pretty crowded. not middle-of-summer crowded, but quite a lot more crowded than we expected.

also, october can be very hot at disneyland. the last time our family was there in october (a trip we purposefully planned for that time hoping for mild weather), there was a heat wave and it was high 90's all 5 days that we were there. if i remember correctly, at least one day the temps reached 100.

That's the week we're going. :goodvibes I'm so excited--I haven't been to Disneyland since the 80's, and I've never been to the other park (California Adventure?). We've gone to WDW 2 out of the last 3 years for free dining, and I'm thinking that compared to Aug/Sep in Florida, Anaheim in June might be pretty nice, weatherwise.

Thank you all for the informative posts! I will read the weather links and see what I can find out.
We're not decided yet...

Well, I guess I'm in the "Crazy Club" too! We always go in summer and love it! We will be there at the end of June this year too. I never thought it was crazy. This year we went also on Jan.2 just before the holidays ended. Now THAT was crazy! :scared: I have never seen it anywhere near that crowded during the summer! Sometimes you might need a sweatshirt for evenings, but that just depends.

Like I said in another thread I think first timers would get more out of a visit over the summer than they would in the off season.

For your first time I wouldn't worry about the crowds really since you say fri-fri. That is plenty of time. You can break your days up too, you will be able to enjoy everything. If you get your hopper passes you have the extra morning hour to enjoy things too. We normally go for four days and that is plenty of time for us. I would love more days but we get to see everything and enjoy it. Its not rushed. Summer is a fab time to go. you will enjoy everything being open for the most part. Another awesome time to go for a first timer is the Holiday Season! Oh my, its so magical then.

I think that Disney is trying to make each season have its own little flair to make the Park just that much more enjoyable and festive.

We went for our first trip during the first week of July last year and I was really concerned about the weather and crowds. However, it was all awesome. We were only there 3 days and felt that we saw everything (although we always wish for more time) and the weather was perfect. I have been in Orlando in August and there is no comparison whatsoever. I would choose Disneyland in summer again.

I enjoy the beginning of June. That is when we try to go every year. Did it last year and will be going again this year. Also went last year in November and it was more crowded than the beginning of June was. I've been to WDW in June and that seemed considerably more crowded than DL at the same time of year.

I enjoy the weather as I'm from Texas and its HOT here - so the weather for us seems mild and I'm originally from So Cal! Its warm during the day and cool at night - we usually bring light jackets for the evening.

Read Hydroguy's tips and you should do just fine even on the weekends (they get more crowded than the weekdays)

It's all a matter or preference.

For me, June is too hot and too crowded. We like to go in January (to both DLR and WDW.) However, when we have kids that are school-aged we'll have to plan summer trips. And in that case, I'd choose June over any other summer month.

October can be just as crowded as June. And October can also be hot.

I went at the end of June mid week last year and had a blast. Follow Hydroguys tips and/or use Ridemax. I liked it so much last year I am going again this year arriving Sunday 21st-24th. Weather is a toss up. When I went the weather was great. The week or so before it was HOT so plan on layers and bring a lot to drink. I'm hoping most people will put off their vacation for the week later which is 4th of July.

Well, this seems strange to me, but the two main "disney" hotels that I was looking at are reporting as full for that second week of June. With all the economic woe and price slashing deals, I was surprised to see that?!
I am not sure what we'll do at this point. Maybe just wait and see...
Waiting on airfare at the moment...

Not sure which hotel you were looking at, but I just booked DLH 2 weeks ago. I did call though, as I was having trouble with my internet connection and didn't want to try and book online. AFter I got my ressies done, I booked airfare, so now it's all about planning our days in the parks. I did time it so we would be there during the week and no weekend days.
