NEVER again in summer!!

Our first trip last year was in September and although probably not as hot as it is right now it was still a good 90 degrees....I will never do it again...we also just went to Sea World in June and it was miserable. My next plans are to try March although it is peak season and spring break....at least the temps should be down and not humid!!!!!!!!

I truly don't understand how anyone can go to WDW in the summertime. :confused3 I don't find "sweating" entertaining...and I'm a Florida native.

ugh, I'm sorry! I get very sick in the heat, as does our ds, so we'll never be able to go in the summer. Right now they are small enough we can pull them out of school, not sure what we'll do as they get older. I like the Disneyland suggestion!

We were there the 2nd week of June and said the same exact thing . . . until a week later. We're over it now. It was about 5-7 degrees higher than what is normal that time of year, so I'm willing to chance it for it to be slightly cooler next time. It has been just as hot here in TN (except for this week) -- it's just that I'm not normally walking in the heat for hours on end like I do in WDW.

I'm just a "summer vacation" person. I'm not taking any chances of bad weather during the winter and I'm not paying peak prices during the spring. I would possibly be open to taking them out of school (well, the 7 year old -- 3 year old doesn't matter), but like I said, we're just summer vacation people -- gives us something to look forward to.

I wish people would stop bashing going in the summer!! thats the only time i have gone in the past 15 years that i have gone EVERY year. its summer, i dont want to go some place and be cold. Because of when I was in HS, and now that im in college, we could only do summer. is it hot? well thats a no brainer, yes it is, but you walk from ride to ride, and almost every attraction is in air conditioning so you do not spend that much time in the hot sun. The only place I find extremely hot is AK because of all the plants and trees keeping in the humidity. Some people love going in the summer and think the weather is fine. You just have to keep yourself hydrated and eat regularly and we take extra vitamins while we are there and my family has never had issues. someone mentioned that yes people do live there year round so its obviously not unbearable.

Hi. We were there June 20 -27 and we were pleasantly surprised! Compared to August last year, the heat seemed tolerable since the humidity was lower.

The trick was to get out of the parks by noon - 1:00 before it got horribly hot, then we didn't go out until 6:00-7:00 every night. Once the sun was near the horizon, it was much cooler. We spent a lot of time doing activities at the resort, and hanging out in the a/c in the villa during the heat of the day.

We decided we like June and will do it again next year. For us, the trick is to stay out of the direct sun as much as possible, drink constantly and don't eat too much when you're out in the parks. The late hours, number of extra activities and shows, and general "festiveness" of the summer sold us. We loved it.

Also, Tour Guide Mike was invaluable for the best parks and advice. I think that made the trip much better, too because he was right on with the crowd predictions.

I'm actually watching Andy Griffith right now on TV Land! :thumbsup2

Some folks must go in the summer due to kids' schedules or other commitments (teacher/principal). Spring Break time is great, but not always an option either. Trust me, I hate the weather in WDW in summer! But our summer weather at home is roughly equivalent anyway!

Hi. You posted this thread twice - hopefully the mods will merge!

I posted a thread like this last week. A lot of people were less than kind, almost defensive, i.e. "good, more room for us!", hardy har har!:rolleyes1 I don't know how anyone could think summer is great. We will NEVER do it again in June, July or August. Why be miserable?? Why get out of the shower then walk out of the room and be dripping wet? The lines were horrible, when you could get on a ride that is, it was very difficult to manuever around people, the buses were packed, food courts packed and tempers high and patience low with all of the excessive heat! Posters were trying to justify how "easy" it is to plan your day and use fastpasses, yeah right, a little hard to do when it was already 85 degrees at 9 in the morning. Keep your summer trips if you want to be miserable is all I can say.

Ha! "Less than kind?" We just pointed out that most of us don't choose to go in the summer, it's either go now, or don't go at all, so we make the most of it. We aren't miserable.

Now I definitely don't think that summer is "great." I would MUCH rather go at the end of October, but I can't so I do everything I can to make it work. And it does.

I'm sorry if you felt we were mean, you have evey right to your opinion and plenty of people feel the same way as you (with good reason). But not all of us are crazy miserable idiots for going in the summer.

what episode are you watching?

I understand "you" have to go when you can go...but don't know if the misery outweighs the magic in the summertime.

Fortunately, we're close enough we can run down to WDW for a long weekend during the cooler off-season.

I really believe your heat tolerance is based where you live the rest of the year. I hate the heat, but I can handle it. Born and raised in Texas, where 100+ summer temps and high humidity are the norm. I don't think I'd be able handle a mid-western winter. It's not really fair to say that WDW in the summer is the worst. For a lot of us, it's not that bad. :confused3

I hear ya!

We have been the past 2 Junes from about the 10th to the 20th and during BOTH visits central florida was experiencing higher than average temps. Some were close to the record. Ouch!

I also know that in most of WV, the nights can be quite comfortable. We can't say the same thing about Orlando.

Glad you got to make the trip. Hope your next trip is cooler.

Last time we went in August, and had a great time. I'm too excited to be in WDW to let the heat bother me. I expect this August to be no different.

The trick is to move down to FL. You may not think you get used to it, but you really do. I used to have an excellent cold tolerance and couldn't breathe well in the heat. Now I thrive on the humidity and freeze my butt off if it's below 70. I do stay very, very well hydrated whenever I'm spending time outside. DH and I often drink Gatorade rather than just water.

Your statement is sooooo very true! I am here going on 19 years. I moved down from NY. My first winter here, I thought wow.. this is nothing, now I am cold when it goes under 70 :lmao: Your blood really does thin out living here. Sure it is hot for us visiting the parks, but it is hot for us everyday anyway :goodvibes

We can relate to your situation. We went one time the end of June first of July. My son, 16 at the time, got so sick from the heat that we had to take him to the first aid clinic at MK where he stayed for 1 1/2 hours trying to cool down. They, by the way, were wonderful. It was so humid that you could feel the air. He felt like he could not breath and started getting sick and dizzy. We spent the rest of our vacation going to the movies in DD and spending time inside. After that trip we decided we would never do another summer trip. We have gone the end of September 3 times, our forth time will be this September, and find it much more manageable. Being from the Pacific NW we are not used to this kind of heat/humidity.

Let them bash, so that others who know they don't tolerate heat well, will go at other times of the year. As much as I always want to leap to defend the summer, I also hope threads like this will stop some people from adding to the overcrowded parks.

What I want to hear is from someone who choses to brave the spring break/christmas break crowds over the summer heat. So far all the teachers I know choose the summer yuck over the impossible crowds.

The year we went to WDW for my son's Birthday which is August 21st, we said never again in the summer. We were miserable 3/4 of the time and you plan thinking how great it will be with the parks being open late but find out if you rise early and make rope drop and last till lunch you are doing good then back to the resort to rest and shower until dinner and back to the parks for a couple of more hours. In reality you do not have any more park time even with the longer hours since you can not stay in the heat and humidity for too long.
We had been to WDW in April, May and June but nothing compared to August. We have gone in January, March and October all of which were good weather wise and this year we are testing out November which I hear is ideal.

DH and I are teachers and are braving the August heat for the first time this year....and I have to say I am worried out of my mind! We have gone the past 3 Winter Breaks and have had a great time (and great weather 2 out of the 3 times.) This past Winter Break, though, the weather did not cooperate and it was COLD! We were in sweatshirts and long pants the entire time.

The kids really want to go to the waterparks, so this time we have the waterparks and more added to our ticket. We have never been able to go before since the weather in December has not been warm enough.
