I just read over my last trip report from Sept. Having to reschedule twice at the last minute because of hurricanes and having to leave a day early due to third was just too stressful!!!! Remember all the hoopla that went on here???? In addition, I actually live in south FL! The experts are predicting ten more years of similar seasons. I will just prepare as best as I can and not make any plans for hurricane season. On the other hand, I will be back for next Thanksgiving.... :cloud9:

while we endured hurricane frances at wdw, i would vacation there again that time of year in a heartbeat... our experience was absolutely wonderful, mildly inconvenient, but still worth going... imo disney went way above and beyond to ensure a good time, weather be darned! the parks were soooo empty that it made touring a snap!

Yes....it was very stressful. We were supposed to be on the September 4 - 11th Magic Cruise but after numerous flight cancellations and itinerary changes, we got our money back and rescheduled for WDW instead. I must say, in many ways I'm glad it happened the way it did. Otherwise, we would have never stayed at WL (got a great AP rate) which is magnificant and we fell in love with this place. We would have never gone in September (never thought of going at this time) but so glad that we did because of the weather and low crowds. I would definitely plan another trip in September if we could swing it.

And call me crazy, but with the low cruise prices in September, we wouldn't hesitate to book another September cruise. Disney was great about giving us our money back because of the hurricanes.

C'mon Susy! (Fellow South Floridian here) Dont ya think maybe the Hurricane experts are going off the deep end just a bit? When have we ever had a September like that? Never, right. So, why does it suddenly become the norm? I'm not buying it. We've done two Sep trips a year for the past 6 years until this year. It's an anomoly, a hiccup. You can't erase 100 years of history and replace it with the most recent event. Besides, I understand there may be a strong El Nino presence next year which could curtail Florida hurricane activity as well.

No...that is why weather can be predicted...because of patterns...

I guess if I lived where my person or home were not in danger (just my trip), it would be different.

DH announced today that we will be at the YC next Thanksgiving, so I am soooo excited!!!

Since we live in Polk county and 3 of the 4 hurricane eyes went through our county, I'm very leary of hurricane season. After each storm the weather people said the chances of another eye going through Polk is nearly impossible...then...yep...another hurricane, another eye through Polk. But my guess is that Disney construction is more sound than my house. So probably safer at Disney than my own home??

lovethattink -- I sincerely hope that you don't ever have to go through a season like that again. :goodvibes

Susy, that's my point exactly! One single year does not a pattern make! Never before in recorded history have we had a hurricane season like this one. So why then does it become a "normal" hurricane season? It's not a pattern, it's one year.

Hello ~

I always plan a trip to Disney in September and love every minute of it. Granted this September was a bit wild and all, but it was fun. As a Floridian, you have to take the good weather with the bad, and honestly, one day when the parks were closed (in Sept.) I stayed at the pool all day long, it was hot, sunny and the water rocked! Not to mention the frozen drinks...as for the next two days that we were told to stay in the rooms (I was at Disney for 18 days then), it was fun, we watched the palms bend and then after the all clear was given, we all went to Classic Hall for dinner and goofed around there. And Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and Goofy were all there too! So I have to agree and say that Sept. is a fun and great time to go!

I for one am hoping that lots of tourist stay away this September. That is great for us Floridians who love to take advantage of all the super specials that the tourist industry puts out then. I am serious in that comment. September has always been a low month for tourists that is why the rates are at their best like the Disney cruise rates have their very best prices of the year in September.

I'm with the OP. We were in Orlando for Hurricane Charley, staying at the Contemporary. Disney took good care of us, but it was stressful with the airport closing and wondering when we would get home. Had we not gotten out the Sunday after the hurricane, flights were full until the following Wed. Not fun.

Then, we barely turned around and we were in Miami trying to go on a cruise (celebrating my dad's birthday) during Hurricane Jeanne. Our ship departure was delayed two days, cutting it from 7 days to 5 and the itinerary was completely changed. The worst part was, however, we were a family group with elderly grandparents and a baby. We were at a beach hotel and under a voluntary evacuation inland. We couldn't get an inland hotel so stayed at the beach, since the hotel was only advised, but not forced, to close. Many people we later met on the ship actually slept in their cars the night of the hurricane since the inland hotels were full and the beach hotels weren't taking new guests. Very dangerous to sleep in a car during a hurricane.

For us, the worry about whether we made the right decision not to try to move everyone to a shelter inland was very stressful, particularly with elderly folks and a baby. Although we got a shipboard credit from the cruise line, it was not sufficient to make up for the worry and inconvenience and loss of 2 days aboard ship. Trip insurance did pay for the extra two nights at the hotel. The cruise line didn't start permitting rebookings until the Friday night before the Saturday cruise. They never did give any refunds -- only a credit toward another cruise. But, by then we were in Miami and had spent over $4,000 in airfare to get there. So, too late for us. We felt like the cruise line forced us to fly directly into the path of a hurricane because if they did manage to get the ship in, reload it and leave before the port is closed and you're not there, you lose your whole cruise plus insurance won't pay in that scenario. Had rebookings been permitted earlier on Friday (and I stayed in touch with the cruise line and our travel agent all day), we would absolutely have rescheduled the cruise and changed our flights. Airlines permitted rebookings without penalty during September, but the cruise lines didn't!

The outlook for 2005 is another very active hurricane season, although they are predicting fewer hurricanes will actually touch down in Florida. Nonetheless, all I can say is I will never again book a Caribbean cruise for anytime during hurricane season (and that means June 1 through November 30!). And I will think long and hard about booking anything in Florida (at Disney or otherwise) during August, September or October.

So many things can go wrong on a vacation anyway. They are too few and far between for us (the two this year will be the only ones for quite a while) to book at a time when we know we face a hurricane risk. I don't care how cheap the prices. Frankly, they couldn't pay me to go on a cruise during hurricane season again -- too much worry and stress about our safety. No discount is worth that.

I plan to visit WDW in September and I chose that month in part to avoid the crowds. I know that September is a slow month for WDW in general and should be more so after this year's September storms. I read that FL tourism officials are concerned about the lingering effect of the hurricaines upon 2005 tourism, particularly during the early and mid parts of hurricaine season. I would not be surprised if this results in discounts during September.

I tell you what...my boyfriend and I were in FL from 9/3-9/15 (@ WDW 9/20-9/15) and I'd go again in September in a heartbeat! In fact, we've started planning our trip for the same time next year!

That was my mantra, too, and not because of the hurricanes. We went the week of Labor Day and the park was so empty it was... eerie. Also, it rained and I mean POURED for hours and hours and hours. There was only one nice day in the entire week! We were a couple then, so it didn't ruin the trip, but with kids, no way. Having said that... if Disney were to offer a PHENOMINAL deal, I'd probably do it. Other web sites are predicting deep cuts during hurricane season for 2005. We shall see...

While we were there, it rained at about 4:00 every day...but only for about 15-20 minutes and then the sun came back out! So, it was a perfect time to duck inside for a bite to eat or scoot back to the hotel for a midday nap!

I hope that they put out some nice discounts for September 05...that would make my trip that much better!
