Netflix?

darn they don't have star trek deep space nine.
wonder how they choose what to offer for watch instantly.

also hard to find stuff.

Really? I have NEVER EVER watched Lost because it does not look lik my cup of tea......I will add but am making no promises.;)

I never got into Lost, even when I tried to watch them after a friend lent me the DVDs. It was just blah to me... and I am a huge Sci Fi/Fantasy Geek.

I love your list!

Battlestar Galactica is great, but I wish they had included the miniseries pilot, too.

Agreed. I have that on the regular que, which is why I have yet to watch the show! LoL.

Currently trying to finish up Sanctuary season 3 before the new episodes start in April.

I also suggest the Dresden Files. It was only on for one season, but I really enjoyed it. I know it is available on streaming.

I don't have trouble finding stuff at all.

I think some of the decision on what is available has to do with who has control over the show/movie.

Did you like Sanctuary? There are some other great shows on SyFy. I love Eureka and Warehouse 13. I have the first season of Haven reserved as well. I loved Southland too. You can find some great concerts on Netflix.

Netflix doesn't choose. Rather, the distributors choose.

e-book titles work the same way: Neither Amazon.com nor Barnes & Noble choose to make books available on the Kindle or the Nook. Instead, the publishers make that decision.

I don't have an issue with finding stuff. I do have to say that the Wii or XBOX is better for searching up movies.

We are at our limit of 500 in queue, but I watch a ton of foreign, independent and documentaries. There is also a great selection of British productions, miniseries and movies.
We also have a lot of classics in waiting. I just watched Gentleman Prefer Blondes and a Marx Brothers film this weekend with DD.

Lemme see, films we have watched and enjoyed lately
World's Greatest Dad
About a Boy--my husband declared it the best Hugh Grant film he had seen
Ponyo--my DD really likes Japanese anime
Penelope
The Kite Runner--fantastic movie
Exit Through the Gift Shop
The Wild and Wonderful Whites--disturbing
Bottle Shock

We are probably not the normal American movie viewer, we don't tend to go towards the blockbusters.

So far I have only seen 2 episodes of sanctuary but I liked them. I didn't care for Eureka though. I'll check out the other ones too.

Kies99 I see we have somewhat similar taste I'm going to check out some of those I think I might like them. After this thread I think the problem is going to be finding time to watch them not having trouble finding them.:cool1:

so have you heard about they are eventually getting rid of dvds what does everyone think about that?

You mean only doing blu-ray, or only doing streaming?

If you mean switch to only streaming, I can see this being a possibility, in 10 to 15 years. Right now they have a p\big percentage of the DVD rental market. I don't see why they would give that up.

Besides, I've heard studios want to charge more for Internet streaming. Like how the RIAA resisted MP3s for so long.

I believe this is what the previous poster was talking about:
http://blog.movies.yahoo.com/blog/432-netflix-is-abandoning-dvds-customers-who-prefer-dvds

Personally, I like instant streaming MUCH better than having to wait for the discs come to my house. I guess I'm just impatient :rotfl:

It is a good thing you have netflix i save a bundle with it. Sounds like it is time you write a book on all of the movies and get paid for your time.

I can totally see Netflix going to all streaming for the future. Heck I would love it if "new releases" were instantly streamed right now. We are getting pretty close to NEW movies going to homes and theaters. That is around the bend. I can't wait for that. As much as I love going to the theater, I just do not do it very often.

Anyway DVDs will be 8 tracks in the near future, that is envitable anyway.

Eventually everything will be wireless.

I cannot see how "Blu Ray" is going to survive.

I completely agree! My list never seems to shrink any!! :rotfl:

Well, a lot of people want to feel like they're getting something physical for their money, even it is basically just a piece of plastic.

I tell you though... Families with hearing impaired members will raise holy heck if they go to all streaming before all the titles have closed captions available. It's shameful that the regulations imposed on Netflix have lagged so far behind the laws set forth in the ADA.

I like getting the streaming movies and the dvds because a) there are some films they do not have available on instant queue and b) we have four people in this family and only one tv (and two computers, but I don't like watching on the computer) that has a wii and/or xbox hooked up to it.

I do not want to bring one of the consoles upstairs to the tv in the living room, so it's convenient for me to get the dvds to watch on that.

Understood, but I suspect MM's point was that given a $X difference in price between an all-streaming service and a streaming-plus-disc service, many people will start switching to all-streaming to save money. At some point, the numbers will reach a point where the streaming-plus-disc service is actually wasting capital, i.e., making too little profit to justify itself. That'll be reflected in higher price increases than would otherwise have been applied, for what would effectively become a boutique service. The higher prices will drive even more subscribers to switch to all-streaming, and the disc service will fall into a death spiral. There will always be people who want discs, but it seems likely that eventually there won't be a Netflix-priced (i.e., affordable to most) service offering that.
