We've had Netflix for years, at least 5 I think but it could be longer. It's a good fit for us. We get the 2 movies at a time option, although honestly I think we use the unlimited streaming through our Wii more. DH and I don't really care if we see a 'new' movie, if we want it we just stick it at the top of our que and it shows up when it shows up. For the $15 or so a month, it's well worth it, that's cheaper than the 3 of us seeing one show at a theater.

We're also finding it a good money saver because we can stream tv shows we might have purchased before. For instance, DD really wanted Avatar: The Last Airbender series for her birthday so I was price shopping online, and found out that's it's available (the whole series) on Netflix streaming. She's happy because she can watch it instantly and I'm happy because it saved me $75 over buying the dvds. She also watches PBS cartoons and I've noticed their selection keeps improving so we don't have to tivo reruns anymore.

As far as Blockbuster, I think there's another thread around here talking about their business model and the financial difficulties they've been having. I don't think they're in this area anymore; I can't remember the last time I saw a store.

I got DH a Netflix subscription for Christmas last year. He LOVES it. No, that wouldn't be telling the truth. WE love it. We currently do the "blu-ray" plan, and only 1 movie at a time, along iwth the streaming. I don't particularly care if the movie is blu-ray or regular, someitmes the "blu-ray option comes up available earlier than a regular DVD will

We currently have about 30 movies in our queue, so no plans of dropping them soon. We have seen some great movies, that we would have NEVER even heard of before, let alone seen (Truth be told - we saw one that TOTALLY SUCKED last weekend). We typically watch a movie every Saturday or Sunday night - and don't really find time to watch more due to schedules, so no need to upgrade to 2 movies out at a time.

We don't often stream something in, although, if we feel it is a 2-movie weekend, then we pick soemthing to stream in.

I will also add - my DH loves Independant films. Netflix has a ton of those available. Last night's movie - Under the Same Moon. Highly recommend it!

I hate going to the theaters, (too expensive, concessions too pricey, inconsiderate people etc).

The bonus for our budget- DH dumped all the movie channels we had right after Christmas. I never thought he would have done that!

We go through spurts. Sometimes we view lots of netflix movies in a month and it very much saves us $ vs. renting and sometimes we hold onto a movie without watching it for 3 weeks . I am in the midst of the latter right now.

I love the online/iphone/wii viewing!

Never had a disc come that wasn't playable.

Its about a 3 day turn around when I send it back which I think is fantastic!

Much better than renting IMHO!

That's not completely true. There are one or two movie studios that struck exclusive deals with Blockbuster so that their movies were available to rent only through them for the first few weeks. They are available to BUY anywhere, but not to rent everywhere. Hot Tub Time Machine was one of those movies. But they are rare, and you can still rent them within a few weeks of your release.

My instant queue has over 400 movies/tv shows in it. There is definitively a huge variety of things to watch and they add new ones every day.

How does watching tv shows work? I'm assuming you have to watch last seasons shows that are on DVD. I can not get DH to get rid of our dish for anything even though everything we watch is DVR'd anyway! I'm fine with watching last seasons shows but he's not. I'm really hoping someone comes up with a way to get the new shows to rent sooner. I know you can usually watch most of them online but he hates doing this for some reason! And we even have the tv hooked up to the computer so you can watch in on the tv and there are usually fewer/no commercials!! UGH!!!

I pay $12 a month (1 at a time and Blu-Ray) and I love it. I don't watch regular TV anymore and just watch NetFlix, or stuff I download. It is well worth the money. I may get more discs soon now as I have slightly more time to watch stuff. Its totally worth the price!!

We have been with Netflix for about a year and really like it. I use them for a lot of the older movies that are not being played on cable anymore, but I don't want to buy. The only thing I don't like is that I can never seem to get a new movie when it first comes out. Weeks, sometimes months, will go by before it becomes available....and by then I've probably bought it On Demand.

Make sure you put the new releases at the top of your queue before they come out. Return your previous DVD so it arrives right as the new release comes out. We usually get them right when they come out or within the week...never has it been weeks or months.

anyway, a few weeks ago my husband asked to sign back up, so i said sure. we are doing the 10 dollar a month and it is GREAT. one disc, but then you get unlimited through the TV. the tv quality is unreal! we have it on the xbox in our bedroom and the ps3/wii in the other room. it really looks good. we are getting caught up on our old buffy seasons that we used to watch!!!

Watching Netflix thru the Wii is amazing. Although now my kids just want to watch tv so that may not be a good thing.

We actually got rid of our satellite last year and only use Netflix.

We do not miss the satellite at all. It's nice that you can find exactly what you're in the mood to watch instead of flipping through the channels and finding nothing of interest.

We did the same thing with Comcast and its been a huge savings! We dropped our cable and just do the $9 monthly Netflix. We bought a Roku box to stream to our tv and we love it. DH is enjoying watching all the tv shows available (Dexter, L&O - every version, Arrested Development). Plus, it seems that they are getting new movies faster on the streaming.

We have a 52" tv that we have used both blu-rays & HD tivos to stream from. Not everything streamable is in HD quality, only certain titles, but we've never streamed anything that looked bad. Even the older movies come across looking pretty crisp.

Is it easy to use - i see u need to use it through the Wii or other game system.

True, but Netflix is also accessible through many different Blu-ray players that came on the market in 2010...

(If you are into HD, I would use either a PlayStation 3 or a Blu-ray player, as the Wii is not an HD-capable player)

A simple solution for Standard Definition to be displayed on HD sets is to change your TV's settings to where you have the two "black pillarboxes" on each side. If you try to "stretch" an ordinary picture to fit an HD set, it looks terrible and the color looks washed-out (particularly, if you use the big, clunky digital cable box from one of the "legacy" CATV companies).

It won't be HD, but it will look a heckuva lot better.

DS wanted netflix, but we have a Redbox at the Walgreens near our home, and at $1 each for fairly new releases...price is right.
That way if we have a busy month it isn't money wasted. And if we need to keep it an extra night, only $1 more...

Redbox is becoming more commonplace, every day...

In addition to Walgreens, they now have machines at all Walmart stores, the Supervalu family of supermarkets (e.g., Jewel, Shop n' Save, Acme), and, of course, McDonald's.

As some of us were talking HD earlier in the thread, Redbox is now rolling-out Blu-ray rentals (they are $1.50 per night).

I cancelled my Netfilx account. We had the 2 movies at a time. They weren't offering first run movies anymore when they premiered on dvd and seveal times we got blue-rays and they wouldn't work. We rent from cable directly now or go rent a redbox dvd.
