Netflix Reminder

I kept mine as well, just changed it to streaming only. We rarely watch the DVD's and redbox will easily fill that gap if necessary.

I currently have this same plan and they quoted me a new price of $17.98 a month, WTH? I think I am going to cancel the streaming and get more discs since most of the streaming movies are old.

If you get blu-ray there is an additional charge, that may be the price discrepancy.

I downgraded to just streaming over a year ago and while we enjoy it we don't use it as much as we used to. Our library has tons of new releases and blu-ray, so that and Comcast on-demand we are good on videos.

Not to mention that ski season is fast approaching and we will rarely be home from Nov to April - mostly working since it is high-season but sometimes skiing

Price only changed by about $3 for me, but I just don't like the mail order DVD's. My desire to watch certain movies tends to be spontaneous. So I switched to streaming only (which we adore) and now we'll get new release DVD's from Redbox, and older titles from the library (for FREE!!!!!)

we have streaming only. we mostly watch the kids cartoons since we have 4 kids ages 4 and younger. if the kids were older or we didnt have any then we wouldnt have it. we did get rid of our cable and replaced it with netflix. we are saving about $90+ since getting rid of our cable. only thing i dont like about netflix is no disney jr. shows. my kids love disney jr.

Thank you so much for the reminder!! :thumbsup2
My next billing period is tomorrow and i put my membership on hold for now until i decide what i want to do..i do not want to pay the increase!!! :sad2:

I guess I don't get the angst over the Netflix price increase. Maybe its just my household and the way we use it...

We have the highest level plan - 3 out at a time and unlimited streaming, my price WAS $19.99 and now will be $24.99. That's only an increase of $5.00. Please corrrect me if I am reading that wrong, but I just went and checked my account and I think that's what it said.

Now we live in a rural area, and we have NO MORE brick-and-mortar movie rental stores - they all went out of business. There is Red Box, but we would have to drive to get to them; and if I drove out to get a movie every time I wanted one, and then drove back to return it, I would more than eat up a $5 charge in gas costs.

We use Netflix all the time! We use those 3 DVDs every weekend, return them every Monday afternoon, and have three more in hand by the next weekend. We also make good use of the streaming options, especially as they add more and more TV shows. I love the availability of Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, and old Star Trek and other classic TV shows. The kids watch cartoons etc, and DH enjoys old cheesy movies that no one else will watch with him. Plus DD16 gets her fill of obscure Japanese anime that she would otherwise have no access to in our rural location.

With everything that it offers, why is an extra $5 a month such a deal-breaker for so many??

Sorsha I think that some people think it is overpriced. But when I looked back at how much we spent at redbox and on demand movies netflix is WAY cheaper. We use ours like crazy too, but I can see how it would be too costly if you didn't use it a lot.

I don't think it is overpriced even with the increase but that doesn't change the fact that we don't watch enough movies to justify the price. We are terrible with the DVD service about keeping our queue updated and watching movies promptly when they come, and we subscribe to Netflix mainly for the streaming service.

If you DON'T use the service, well then yes, for sure, it would be overpriced for you. :upsidedow If it were just me, the DVD part would make it overpriced too - I am not much of a movie-watcher. I have the attention span of that dog in "UP" - SQUIRREL! - I am only good for about the length of a TV show. DH, on the other hand, can sit and watch movies all weekend if there's no football on. Oh well, he works 50 hours a week, I don't begrudge him his downtime. He uses the DVD movies (and the streaming), I use the streaming. The kids use both as well.
