Netflix on Wii

NO, the Blu-ray player would be better than the Wii. The Wii is not HD and nor can you connect it to surround sound - a Bluray player should allow you to do both.

We use our PS3 for blu-ray and it is fabulous (the blu-ray, not the streaming, see below).

For those excited about the streaming -- we have it from Netflix and we use it sometimes. Just be aware that the quality of the streaming video is nowhere near as good as a regular HD movie and cannot touch a blu-ray disk.

If you aren't a movie nut and just want to see it and not have super high-def and sound, it's fine. But you'll see the difference easily. Also we have cable internet and still streaming netflix crashes sometimes.

My surround sound is hooked to my tv so the wii does do surround sound. (Really creepy to play the Resident Evil game with surround sound):scared1:

Bumping this thread. :)

I'm seeing that some have received their discs. I'm wondering how it's going. I've put off subscribing to Netflix until I know I'll get my disc in the next few days.

We got our disk the first of April and it works great! Actually it works better then our Roku. We waited to see how it would work before we canceled our cable and after a week we canceled our cable last week! :goodvibes We're saving $$ from cable and because Netflix is cheaper then our old Blockbuster account. I am so happy we switch from Blockbuster to Netflix. :cool1:

Ours is working great. We got my oldest DD a Roku 18 months ago and it works "okay" but it will stream a lot and sometimes takes forever to initially load the movies and will just act weird sometimes. Netflix on Wii is SOO much better than the Roku!

So, has everyone reserved their free disc yet ?

In case you have not heard, if you own a Wii and are a Netflix member of 8.99/mo or up, you will be able to stream movies via your Wii. It does require a free disc, so head to Netflix and sign up. Service starts some time this spring(2010). :3dglasses
I am still waiting for my wii disc. I have signed up on there website at least 50times. I have called them I don't know how many times. They have told me that by the end of April that everyone should have there wii disc.

Before I got mine I received an email, just like the ones notifying me that a movie has shipped. I'd keep an eye out and call if you don't get it by the end of April!

I got a Wii for Xmas, but have not had time to take it out of the box as of yet. I did not know it was internet capable. IS there a cost or extra supplies needed to hook the Wii online? Is it tough to do if not tech savvy?

We have the roku box on our main tv. Love it.
We just got our free disc for our wii, which is downstairs in the basement. So,it works out great.
I have not used it yet.
Does the disc have to be in every time? And what remote do you use? The wii remote?
Will have to try it out, just haven't had time since we got the disc.

No there is no extra cost. You do have to have wifi. If you have highspeed internet dsl or cable internet. You will have to get a wireless router. It's not hard to hook up.

Yes I think you do have to have the wii disc in anytime you want to watch netflix and I think you use your wii remote control I am not sure I am still waiting for my disc.

Ya I have been checking my email everyday waiting for the email. I just joined netflix a few weeks ago. It's pretty cool how they send you an email everytime they ship or recieve your movie.

yes and yes. Its very easy to use ours. We got the disc 2 weeks ago.

We're enjoying it. I've mainly looked at the children's section, DD was happy they had Caillou and Arthur from PBS. Considering it's pretty much a freebie since we've been Netflix subscribers for a couple of years now, I think it's a neat deal.

My youngest DD is getting more than our money's worth out of the new Netflix Wii connection. She loves watching the children's movies and shows. I haven't tried it for any of my movies yet. It is working well.

So if I can watch TV episodes from the major networks on my computer, do you think I can use this internet connection to stream thru the Wii? I am just worried that I don't have fast enough internet for streaming. I see the system requirements for the computer-is there a minimum internet speed that would be needed?

I have a Blockbuster plan right now but streaming sounds great.

We signed up for our free trial of Netflix a week ago today. I got the email that I will have my Wii disc tomorrow. I am really hoping that on Wednesday I can cancel our Blockbuster membership. We don't have it online, only through the store because the store is just a few blocks from our house, and it is $29.99/month for 2 DVDs out!!! Awesome for us in the winter, because there would be some weekends we we go to the store several times, seeing as many as 8 movies a weekend.

Got the email today that its shipped!!!

I can't wait to be able to stream to our bedroom now! (We stream to our family room with our PS3 and XBox360.

If you don't have wifi, you'll need a wireless router. We bought this one for $25 and it works great.
