netflix and cinderella man (update in original post)

just checked my activity...I rented 19 dvds in the last 30 days. yeah, I'd say if throttling exists I'd be a target. lol. well, like I said, we'll see what I get once I return the 3 I currently have. I only have pengins and cinderella man in my queue now and nothing else is jumping out at me so we shall see.

I just put Cinderella Man into my Blockbuster que. (Don't know why I hadn't before?) It's avalible now!

Hope you enjoy it! I've heard nothing but good things about it. hopefully I'll have it soon. Seems like every dc is different. :)

I have Netflix too and just added this to my queue. It's available now! :)

I guess all of us that live in eastern Ma have nothing better to do than stay home and rent movies :teeth:

lol, isn't it the truth? at least for us. Its cold out there, baby! and with 3 under 4, we don't get out much.

OK I had to check. I added Cinerella Man to my que and it said it had a Very Long Wait. My DC is Gaithersburg MD.

I don't think they're throttling me since I've only gotten 9 movies in the past 30 days but they may be. I've seen a slowdown of my turn around time recently. They even sent me one from some DC in California, that took 3-4 days of shipping each way.

ETA:
One thing I've noticed is that they take an extra day to ship things. They'll recieve the DVD on Monday and not ship something out till Wednesday and that'll be the second movie in my que. It also seems they aren't receiveing the movies back as fast as they used to. Instand of them getting the movie back overnight like usual it may take 2-3 days before it shows that they've received it.

Netflix was throttling SSB in earlier times (when the price wars happened) but the later discountinued the practice, at least here. Now I get one day turnaround almost all of the time, which is fab.

CM is a GREAT film, must agree.

thankfully that isn't happening...if I send it out on monday they get it by tuesday and ship a new movie the same day, so I have it on wednesday. It took a bit longer when I lived in saratoga. So far the turnaround is wonderful! I have a feeling that movie is just that popular.

This throttling thing is kind of intriguing, I'd never heard of it. We are kind of slow users (sorry, mtemm, I promise I will watch CM this weekend!) so I probably haven't been throttled. Also, we have rented a lot of obscure documentaries and so probably not a huge demand for them.

Mtemm, what TV show were you catching up on that had you renting so furiously?

I can't believe I'm going to admit this, but its The Gilmore Girls. We'd never watched it but when we were out in L.A. this past summer we took the Warner Bros tour and a good chunk of it was the Gilmore Girls sets...indoor, outdoor, you name it. It was fun. So I turned it on when we got back and watched bits and pieces of an ep just to see the sets. Then did the same thing the next week. Then decided to see how things got started and rented the first season. I got hooked. Then I reeled my dh in. He's as addicted as I am. lol. We don't watch a ton of tv...love Lost and a few other shows, but nothing we can't live without for a while. Its actually a very good show...kind of northern exposure-ish.

Mtemm, we all have our guilty pleasures! Otherwise, how would Desperate Housewives be such a hit?!

I've actually heard good things about GG...never watched it though. I really don't need another TV show to watch! :rotfl:

Just wanted to resurrect this thread since I just saw the AP did a story on netflix' practice of "throttling." Seems they really do hold movies on people that are heavy renters. And to think I learned of it on the DIS weeks ago!!!

And mtemm, did you ever get Cinderella Man? (I watched and returned for you!)

very interesting! no, I haven't gotten it yet. it has changed from very long wait to long wait, though. the weird thing is I am getting other movies just fine, even if they are popular or new releases.

thanks for watching and returning! hopefully I'll get it soon. If I weren't getting other movies I suppose I would be more upset. so far its just C.M. that seems to be throttled or whatever.

If you our anyone else has a link to the story, I'd love to read it.

Funny how timely this resurrection is - I just got March of the Penguins on Friday (I'm returning it today for anyone in the Worcester distribution area waiting for it). It's been #1 on my list since the day it was released.

Cinderella Man is still showing a long wait for me.

If you've rented and returned 5 seasons with of the Gilmore Girls you are being throttled. I'm sure all the Christmas gift memberships are being given priority. As per the AP story, Netflix has in not so many words admitted to the pratice. Their TOS states that lower volume renters and new members will get priority.

FWIW Cinderella Man is showing now for me but it's at 79 in my queue from the Austin TX distrubution center.

I just added Cinderella Man to my que and it says available now. Too bad I already have two movies on the way to me today. I moved CM to the top of my que so when I return the ones I get today, we'll see if I get CM or not.

I'm beginning to dislike Netflix for this very reason. I have many movies in my queue that are in some sort of waiting period. They used to ship out the new relases fairly quickly from my local (Philly) dist. center but over the last 6 months or so, it's gotten much slower.

I put "will be released on XX/XX/XXXX" movies at the top of my queue with the hope that when it's released, it'll ship. But when the movie releases, they usually go to long wait or very long wait. :badpc:

I am really losing respect for Netflix. I’ve been loyal to them and refused to drop them because I got such good service at the beginning and I hate to give my business to the copycats. But I am being majorly throttled now! The top twelve movies in my queue all have waits. I’ve had 40 Year-Old Virgin on there since it was released (a couple of months?). I really think that’s unacceptable – if they can’t get you a movie within a month they need to order more copies.

We rented movies so rarely that we were throwing money away on Netflix, so we finally quit them.

Now, we just get movies the old fashioned way . . . from our grocery store!!

And YES, Cinderella Man IS a great movie!! Russell Crowe is a fantastic actor!
