So we are 33 days from leaving for DISNEY!!:cool1: But now I'm getting Nervous and worried about the weather we might face at the end of Sept. Anyone ever have a vacation at Disney where it was a total wash out & nearly ruined due to a hurricane or other weather related issue???? What are good alternatives if the weather is terrible???? I like to plan and have control over things, so I think that's why this is bothering me so much-no way to know whats going to happen and I cant do anything to change it!!! :confused3:confused3.

Hey...I have a surprise WDW trip coming up in 1 month too! :wizard: As far as weather goes...it will rain. Plan for rain every day, because it probably will rain at some point every day on your trip. Bring ponchos for everyone and if your shoes are vulnerable to water, bring some flip flops to slide on while it is raining.
As far as hurricanes go, WDW is very good at handling things. I have read trip reports by those who were on lock down at their resorts during hurricanes (Charley was the one I read about every time). You can actually read about how things were handled here: http://www.amazon.com/Creating-Magi...gies/dp/0385523866/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_c#reader on Amazon in the pages that you are able to read out of Creating Magic (a book written by a Disney executive). He talks about how long people were in their rooms (it was less than 24 hrs), and that after the storm hit, a response team cleaned up all of the parks through the remainder of the day and into the night, so the parks could open the next day. They changed their WDW resort channels to show movies and cartoons. I am not worried at all after reading how well organized they are when it comes to hurricanes. It is sort of the price you pay for traveling there during hurricane season. The risk is there, and if you understand that, you will be fine. No one can predict the weather that far in advance. Here is some info from the WDW site: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/hurricane-policy/ Don't worry! :wizard:

My family and I use to live on the East Coast and go to Disney World every summer. Most of the time it was hurricane season. I even remember sleeping in my car outside of a hotel on the way to Orlando because it was booked from evacuees. But I dont ever remember having a problem at the parks. Its not a area hit badly from the hurricanes, ya you will be getting some rain at some point during your vacation. It kinda like a monsoon where it last for a little while then goes away. Bring ponchos for when its raining. As far as the end of September goes the hurricane season should be winding down, Im going the second week of October which is a first for us, but I dont think you have to worry about any major problems from storms. Good luck and enjoy your trip. princess:

Yes just get excited for it all. :woohoo: When we went alot of times it would rain while we were inside for a show or ride or eating then we would come out and see the puddles play in those too. I dont see any problems there. Have a great trip. :-D

We just got back and it rained just about evey day...
Some just for minutes, some for hours.
PLAN ON RAIN.
September, is in Hurricane season, so it could be wet.
Bring your ponchos.

The best day I have ever had at Disney World was during Hurricane Rita.

They announced on the news that am that the parks were closed for the day.

Around noon the storm seemed to have passed somewhat so we thought we would head out and see about getting some food. I told DH to drive towards the parks and see what might be open to eat.

Low and behold there was someone in the booth as we drove over and he said they had JUST opened anyway......but the park was virtually empty! I have never seen Magic Kingdom so empty EVER.....it was awesome. We walked on everything and were the only riders for many of the rides. We stayed until they closed that night.

Dawn

We were there for Tropical Storm Fay last year.... she sat over Orlando for the last 5 days of our 7 day trip :confused3:scared1: What did we do? We put our ponchos on and hit the parks! :thumbsup2 One morning they opened ALL the parks an hour earlier for resort guests in case they had to close for flooding (it was raining and raining and raining non-stop..... and it was WINDY too! :rotfl: ). The parks never did close..... Granted, it stunk :( to have it be so miserable on such a long-anticipated trip, but we still had a LOT of fun and made tons of great memories just the same :) Just bring some ponchos or get some there (since Disney will replace their own if they rip) and have a good time!!!!!

Keep in mind, too, that hurricanes are fickle beasts. We once panicked and moved the dates of our September trip because of an approaching hurricane that was threatening Florida...which then turned and hit us up here in NC instead while we stayed here!:crazy2:

Take it from someone who's BTDT: The anticipation is way worse (make yourself crazier) than if it actually does hit. Just roll with it, knowing what the PPs have said...if it *does* hit, you'll be in good hands.

Have fun!

I'm hoping this will be the case. Funny how sometimes the thing you worried MOST about is the thing that turns out to be nothing!! Really hoping thats the case!! Now, what am I the LEAST worried about???that will probably turn out to be a problem!! Thanks-oh and I'm a fellow homeschooler too!! :thumbsup2

googling.... found this post.

Couple of questions from a newbie to all you seasoned WDW veterans:

1. What would be a good reliable weather forecast website? I somehow do not like that most only gives you 5-15 forecast days.

2. Ok, I know it's going to rain in september - I will be on WDW sept. 14-21, with the wife and my kids: 7 and 4 - But it is kind of warm and humid when is not rainning, isn't? what kind of clothes you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

We went end of Sept last year. A little rain on and off most days, one day it rained from 2pm through to the next day. Have a rainy day back up just incase. It shouldn't ruin your trip, just "change" it a bit.

I think we are going on the same day!;) My sister in law went last September when they were predicting a hurricane (I don't remember the name). It changed paths and they only had one shower when they were there for a week. I am hoping that the weather will be good-I don't mind the quick showers in the afternoon:umbrella:. I would prefer not to have a hurricane though! It's gonna do what it's gonna do so I guess there is no reason to worry about it. Have fun!!

We are a going the end of Sept too. This will be our first time going in Sept and I am a bit worried. But we are going to go prepared with ponchos and cross our fingers that we have good weather.

We are going 9/7-9/14. I am definitely concerned about the weather, but not to the point of letting it affect our trip or ruin my excitement.

Last year we went to the Outer Banks the exact same dates. This was right when Hannah, Ike, and Josephine were all coming through. I stayed glued to www.wunderground.com like crazy, making myself sick with worry, checking the newly updated projected path every couple of hours. And you know what? After all 3 storms looking like at some point they would hit us there, we had one day of drizzly rain, and not even a drop the other 6 days. Perfect.

So this year I am trying to let it go and not worry. (But I'm still stocking up on ponchos and saying a prayer for good weather!)

So what are good "rainy day back up" activities???? We're staying at the cabins @ FW-so there's not a hotel to walk around or lobby stuff.....any ideas???

We went for our first family trip last year during Faye and we arrived on Saturday and the rain started on Monday and continued til we left on Saturday for home. It was still the best vacation! We loved that the heat wasn't oppresive and that the lines were short and I got my dollars worth out of those poncho's! Really I tried not to let it bum me out and we still did everything I set out to do. It really was fine - just go into it knowing what to expect - expect the worst and hope for the best!

Have a great trip no matter what the weather decides to do ;)
