Ok so I have flown all my life all over USA and to several different countries. I loved it and had no fears at all. As soon as I had kids, everything changed. I am terribly afraid to fly!
Is there anything I could do or take(non-perscription) before we leave to calm me down a little?
Any advice would be appreciated!

I would talk to a psychiatrist. Curing the problem is much better than taking something to alleviate the symptoms.

A lot of people have this happen. I have a friend who flies a lot for work. When she had her dd, she really started obsessing over flying. I felt that way to some extent.
But truly??? You know flying is safe. You've done it before. I'm not a huge proponant of taking anything to relieve the stress/tension. If it gets bad enough that you can't fly, go talk to a professional about it.

Well iornically my father is a psychiatrist. I do not want to take any meds, that is why I said something non-perscription. I figured this might be common for mothers and I was just looking for some advice or tips to calm my nerves. No medicine though.

You could take some benydryl....that's what we give the dog to calm him before a long car ride. No, I am NOT comparing you to my dog!!!!

I had the same thing when I had DD. Really you can take some Benadryl to make you sleepy or if you will not be in charge of driving or a child when you arrive I would vote for getting a Rx for Ativan.

I saw my general physician, she wrote me a Rx for 12 Ativan. I take 1/2 before I fly when I get to the airport and put Dd next to Dh in case anything happens. Takes the extreme edge off and keeps me from crushing Dh's hand the whole flight. The only real down side is it makes me sleepy. IF I fly without Dd I am much better but that really isn't an option.

As soon as you board, tell the flight attendant at the entrance that you are nervous about flying and would like to visit the flight deck and talk with the pilots. A good flight crew will welcome you up front and give you a briefing about that flight to help ease your concerns.

This is a time tested remedy that always work so forget the medication before the flight.

My husband is the same way now. We have 4 kids and he flies more often than I do & if he is flying w/o us, he gets very nervous :confused3

years ago i was so nervous for first flight and the girls took me to airport and we had A drink...i do not drink as a rule so once i was on the plane I was like who cares:thumbsup2 guess they all knew once i took off the drink would hit me and were all :lmao: but it got me over the nerves and I fly all the time now..no drink.....there in no time not tired:cool1: however am not pushing drinking on anyone it is just what got me on the first plane.....

I used to work for the airline industry and now experience some flying anxiety after having my childeren as well. I can deal with a smooth flight but turbulance just makes me anxious. Not sure why. Not nervous about ANYTHING else in life except when I get on an airplane.
An ipod and a drink take the edge off. I do not take any medication.
btw- just flew back to the midatlantic when Irene was off the coast in GA.
Lot's of wind and rain. Thank Godness for a charged ipod and a drink coupon.;)

I flew when I was 15 and had no problems. Did not figure on having problems with flying with my wife and kids. Was I wrong. After a take off that turned my stomach more ways than I can count, being short of breath, and feeling like my heart was skipping beats, I now have to use Xanax before flying. Usually take one pill a half hour before the flight and all is well.
