We booked the 7 mile beach excursion through DCL. We have two small children...DS 5 and DS2. We were thinking that is would be easier to book it and make sure everything goes smoothly but, after reading several posts I am wondering if we should just take a cab to the Holiday Inn that others have done.

Any advantages to using the DCL excursion? Anyone have a bad experience getting their own cab and getting a cab to take you back to the ship??

The times for the excursion aren't great either...7:25 am (not even remotely a good time) and 12:30 which would be pushing it for a nap for my DS2.

Advice? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance

can anybody help??? please.....

Hello again. I think you already saw my thread about 7 mile. But I wanted to add here in case anyone reads this one also...

We did not do the excursion, and we enjoyed the flexibility of doing it on our own. Everything we needed was at the Holiday Inn beach (snacks stand, restrooms, free chairs, etc.) and we could come and go as we pleased, which is often a plus when you have little ones. ( we considered doing Xcaret, but decided against it when we learned we would be locked into a time frame which is hard to do with a 3 yr old)

This beach is easy enough and safe enough to do without the safety net of DCL that you would probably want with other excursions.

However, all that said, I am sure there are some really good points to doing it through DCL.

Have a great trip no matter what you do!

While I have not yet cruised, I did ask numerous friends who have been to GC about going it on our own there. Without hesitation, all of them said that we would be foolish to spend so much $$ on a trip to the 7 mile beach. GC is not an exotic foreign port; English is spoken and the cab drivers take USD. I think you would probably be happier on your own and on your own schedule than with DCL - not to mention having the extra $$ in your pockets.

IMHO, I think you should do this on your own. With your kids the age that they are, you will be a better judge of how long to stay, and so on. Plus, it will save you big bucks by just taking a cab...
