Nervous about 50s Prime Time antics

I have never been to 50s before, but from what I have read here on the boards and been told elsewhere, you can really get embarrassed here. I am not really shy, but I don't like to be bothered much while I am eating. Should I still go? I have adrs here for April 15, it will be myself, dh, dd9, and dd5. I thought the kids might enjoy it, but I am a little nervous. My neighbor said that they made her bus a table because she did not finish her food!! I would die! Opinions?:confused3

We have eaten dinner there twice, and from what I have seen they don't bother people who obviously don't want to be bothered.

We have never been for that very reason. When I am eating I don't want to be bothered and especially in that way. Just like I avoid those characters on the Boulevard. I only have one friend who has ever eaten in there, and they said the meal was ruined by the antics of the CMs. I appreciate theme dining but...........that wouldn't do it for me.

We have gone several times. One of those times, we were obviously tired and not in the mood. Waitress was no fool and immediately picked up on that. She didn't do anything to us the entire time and we enjoyed just watching tables around us that were really into it.

On other visits, we were up to interacting and interacted back.

You can always request when you check in at the hostess desk that you'd rather not be interacted with much. They will seat you with a waitress that is not as 'into' it or give your waitress a head's up.

I think the food is great there and so is the atmosphere. I've never been picked on or asked to do anything strange. Worse thing that has happened to us is that the waitress put a bib on my DH and FIL last time. They thought it was hilarious ;) The rooms only have a handful of tables in them so it's not like 300 people are watching - there might be 10 more people in there and they are getting teased as well usually.

It's been a few years since I have been there. But from what I can remember, it really wasn't that bad. They made sure that my nephew washed his hands before eating, but other than that it was pretty tame.

yeah I really liked the atmosphere, but I do happen to be very shy and I was very embarassed. I ate there like 7 years ago and I was like 8 or 9 and there was a boy about the same age as me at another table and the waitress totally tried to set us up and like get us to dance with each other and I was like Oh my goodness. I was pretty much scarred for life and I'm lucky to say that that has been my one and only bad Disney experience.
And to make matters worse she kept on like forcing me to eat what was on my plate and I was like full and didn't really like the green beans.
:sad2:
but the atmosphere is fun.

Both of the times we visited we were hoping for a little spontaneous interaction but did not get any. Staff seemed more anxious to get everyone in and out quickly. It was a very busy day which might have been the reason. :confused3

By the way I like your Johnny Pic's!

When we went my dad had to wear a bib and they told us to eat our veggies. They basically act like their the moms and your their kids. It is really cute!

We went in 2005 and enjoyed the antics. They wont bother you like other posters said if you dont want them to. If was fun and if you are having a tired uptight day, it is a good laugh. Go and enjoy yourself.

We went to WCC and they also interact. My boys were not happy. Ther server did pick up on this and left them alone. My youngest LOVED it and giggles every time our server came to the table.

I would imagine 50's would be the same. Give the CM at the podium or if you are really worried, make another ADR. If it is going to be on you mind, worrying will ruin your day. There are many other places to eat, pick one where you and your children will be "not worried".

My boys have requested to never eat at WCC again.

When you get there explain it to your server and the the person sitting you at the table. You can enjoy the antics without you being the butt of the joke. Enjoy your meal it's a great place.

Oh me, what to do what to do? I really don't want to be worried about eating somewhere. I want to be excited. There is just not alot to choose from as far as MGM goes, and Mama Melrose does not appeal. Maybe we should just do cs at MGM and a dinner that night somewhere else. I am so confused!! Everytime I turn around I am worried about something else to do with this trip! All in good fun I guess!

I know this is off topic and you probably don't care, but our favorite restaurant at MGM is Sci-fi Dine In Theater. Its really cool. The atmosphere is amazing and its kinda '50s themed as well with emphasis on sci-fi films which they show fun clips of on the huge screen. You feel like you're in a real drive in movie theater. the tables you eat in are actually cars. The food is good too. :goodvibes
We always make it a point to go there when we're at MGM. As long as you don't go in expecting a fancy schmancy meal then you should be satisfied with the food. I love it.
Anyways I just had to put in my 2 cents. Have a wonderful time with whatever you choose to eat at MGM.
:goodvibes

Don't sweat it. Just tell the person who seats you that you would prefer not to be part of the show. They will tell your server. Enjoy the food, and enjoy them teasing your fellow diners.

Seriously, go and have fun. No reason to fret at all.

Okay we have eaten at Primetime and Sci Fi ..Three times at Prime and 2 times Sci Fi. We enjoyed the food much better at Prime Time and I really think that if you don't want to get into the antics...they sort of figure it out quickly or like the others say....just mention it when you check in. Just by doing that....that the server will probably tone it down and not all the servers embarrass you so to speak. I would try it. I know with Sci Fi.........you either love it or you don't. We don't. I am sure they are told.....that some people just want to enjoy their meal and not be BUGGED. I would say GO FOR IT.

I do not particularly like being the center of attention, either. We went to Hoop Dee Doo last year, and were picked on throughout the meal... DH kept getting hit on by one of the actresses! It really made the night for my kids! We just talk it up to the magic of Disney, and don't worry about it. I keep this in mind... I don't know these people, so what do I care wat they think? Go and enjoy yourself. I will be there in June myself.

Last year we ate at H&V, and did the Fantasmic dinner package. An excellent buffet if you decide to change your ADR after all!

When we ate there they really didn't interact much at all. When we sat down the waitress put the silver in front of my DD and told her to set the table and introduced us to "our cousins" at the next table. That was it until later and then she complimented my DD and DH for cleaning there plates and that was about it, definitely not embarrassing.

I'd recommend Brown Derby or Hollywood and Vine. I've never eaten at Prime Time, partly because of the antics, and partly because their menu doesn't appeal to me. If you're going to worry about the Prime Time meal, I think you'd be better off going instead to another restaurant that you'll look forward to.

We have adr's here, and I get embarassed, but we have NEVER been to WDW, and are going to be on our honeymoon. I get great laughs out of the thought of having a server get my DFH. I am going to request a more interactive server which knowing my luck will get me lol oh well all in fun. I have heard you can just let them know at check in that you rather not be picked on really. Maybe you would like the antics just rather them be more mild I am sure they could work to the way you would rather have your meal. I also had WCC adr's, but silly me in all the chaos of everything and all the plans going on I forgot to plan an AK day so had to change WCC to something in AK for that morning. I am a bit bummed as WCC sounds like a lot of fun, and like I said the thought of dfh getting picked on makes me laugh lol.:bride: pixiedust:
