I have been using the Nero 7 Ultra software to convert my pictures into DVD slideshows. The program is not the easiest to use and it seems to crash a bunch. Does anyone else use this program or have problems with it?

Haven't used it in quite a while but version 7 wasn't very stable for me either. IMO Nero is a good example of "feature creep". It started out as really good CD/DVD burning software, now it's a massive beast that tries to do 5000 different things and ends up doing none of them well, including its original function.

Maybe the current version (8) is better? :confused3

I am going to download the trial version of 8 and see if it is any better. Your feature creep is right on target.

Did you have the current version of the one that you had? Nero updates their software constantly, and usually you should be able to do at least some of the updates for free. Probably not to Nero 8, and maybe not from 7.0.xxxx to 7.5.xxxx, but you may want to check.

I use Nero constantly and it very rarely causes any issues. I don't use the NeroVision part a lot, but I do occasionally and it's always worked fine for me as well.

That being said, I do always disable Nero Scout and that darn toolbar it adds...

Groucho, I am going to check to make sure my Version 7 is fully up to date. Thanks for the reminder.

I have used it several times for several different projects and have not had it crash yet. The better question would be what kind of computer do you have, the processor speed, the amount of ram you have, and what programs you have running in the background of the computer. Any kind of processing like what you are talking about is going to be a resource monster. If you are running windows xp, you need at least 512Mb of ram just to do normal stuff, if you want dvd authoring etc, you should have at least 1Gb of ram installed. I could go into more details, but I think you see where I am going with it.:coffee:

Update: I ran the Nero7 update and things are much better now. I still may try the Nero8 just to see what is better.

Crazydadguy: Thanks for the post and I am running on a pretty good machine. 2 gig memory, new Nvidia graphics card, etc. You are right that these kind of programs really need the resources.
