Neptune washers...again

Does anyone have the Maytag Neptune toploader that tumbles the clothes? How does it compare to the frontloader?

I don't but I just bought a Fisher-Paykel washing machine. From advice on this board. I think the website is fisherpaykel.com.

It is awesome, clean, clean, clothes and they are soooo soft!

I just found out that the Neptune toploader only came out about 4 months ago. They are supposed to save 50% on water vs 40% with the frontloader. The tub is also bigger.

My uncle works for Proctor and Gamble, they make Tide, Downy, Bounce, All, etc.

He knows a lot about cleaning clothes and has the means to buy any washer he wants.

He gave me the following advice:

The front-loading machines do use little water and are mainly for the European market where water is scarce and very expensive. In general, not an issue for Americans.

But, to get your clothes really clean, you need WATER!! For many Americans, the front loaders don't get the clothes as clean as we are used to because of the lack of water! But, after you spend $1000+, you won't admit it.

I was able to use my MIL's top of the line front loader washer and dryer. I discovered that (1) the washer held less than my 11 year old Amana (2) my clothes weren't clean (3) my clothes were wrinkled! I didn't let them sit in the washer or dryer either!!

I just bought a Fisher-Paykel when my $200 Amana died. I LOVE IT!!!! Half the price of a front loader and clean, soft clothes!

If you know someone who owns what you want, ask to use it!! (Offer to do their laundry too or make dinner!)

Darn, I don't have the top loader - mine is the neptune front loader.
Just wanted to offer it up for anyone who wants to come over and do some of MY laundry in it, the dinner idea sounds great too!

The European models use less water but they make it up by increaing water temperature. (There was an article on the Wall Street Journal about it.) We have Miele washer and dryer. The washer temperature can go up to 190 degree. When we first got the machine I washed old baby clothes with burb stains that never came out. The clothes came out spotless and I didn't use anything other than Percell.

I have a Neptune frontloader. We got it because we have well water and needed something that uses less water. It gets my clothes clean, no complaint there. But the stupid thing has already broken 2 times and we've only had it about 2 1/2 years. Both times something on the computer board.

There is a class action suit starting for this exact problem on the Neptune. Our front loader had the same problem when it was only 6 months old. PM me if you want information on this.

The Fisher-Paykel washer is Energy Star rated. It saves a lot of water and electricity going by my bills.

From what I can understand with it...they send a video along...it uses very small amount of water for the initial aggitations and then fills up to finish aggitation. Then it sprays the rinse water over the clothes, aggitates and does it again several times. I love this machine. So far, no problems and they have been making and selling them in New Zealand/Aust. for 15 years or more. It was highly rated in all the sources I could find.

I have been doing quite a bit of research on washers and have read a lot of positives about the F & P.
I need to go to the appliance store to check them out. I had never heard of them before.

I have the top loading Maytag Neptune washer and dryer. My friend also bought these recently. I've only had mine for about 3 months now, but I have to say I LOVE it!! It gets run at least 5 times a week and I haven't found a problem with my clothes still being dirty. They are just as clean (if not cleaner) than the job my old agitating washer did.

I will admit, however, that the clothes do come out more wrinkled. That is an irritation, but I also have the dryer and that seems to take care of the wrinkle problem. By the way, the dryer gets done at almost the same time as the washer (I do not have the very very cool dryer closet, though - just the basic one)! No more having to wait for clothes to dry before I can add another load.

Just my .02 for you - by the way, my friend feels the same way I do about the washer and dryer - lets just hope the honeymoon doesn't end!
