Not adjusted for inflation, but WOW!!!

It is only $2M behind Monsters, Inc.
Shrek is $14M ahead.

This movie seems to have tremendous staying power. I still have not seen it, but will. I know that most have truely enjoyed it, with the major exception of our good friend Mr. Pirate. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion (and I all too often like Pirate's).

Now the question is... How many of you have seen Nemo more than once?

I'm waiting till my ticket purchase pushes it to #1,(at least animated #1).

My daughter has seen it twice, and the rest of the Kidds clan has been once, and we plan to go again soon, something we hardly ever do (see a movie in the theatres twice that is). Was Nemo as good as Lion King or Beauty and the Beast? I'll agree with the Pirate that it isn't, but that is a pretty high standard. Every film should shoot for such a standard, and I think they tried with Nemo, even if they fell short. It had all the elements IMHO - they just touch people in different ways I guess.

I'm holding out to see if they put in any out takes....anybody heard anything about if they will or not? I sort of thought they might for 4th of July weekend, but I guess not....

DR

I think tonight (Monday) it just might pass Monster's, Inc. Around this time next week, it may well have passed Shrek, Matrix Reloaded, and Chamber of Secrets....we'll see....

I haven't been for the second time...but I plan to!

We saw it yesterday for the first time. We laughed so hard that I actually cried!

Monday's numbers are out. Finding Nemo's gross now stands at $256.5 million. What surprises me the most about Nemo is its weekly numbers. For example, this week's Monday gross was only a miniscule 7.7% drop from last Monday's gross. By then end of the week, Nemo should pull ahead of Jaws, the Grinch and Chamber of Secrets.

Is T3 out this weekend, or just a speak peek on Wednesday ? If T3 is just a sneak,I'd bet Nemo takes #1 away from Charlies Angels by the weekend. Course,if T3 is opening on Wed, then all bets are off.

more like #4 at best.
T3, Legally Blonde 2, Sinbad will all beat Nemo, but he still should take in about 15 Mil over 5 day weekend. Bringing total to close to shrek.

I agree with you Golter, but I wanted to point out that he is only 11 behind Shrek right now - if he gets 15 this weekend, plus another million or so tonight, that's past Shrek.

I'm not sure what all the hype is about it beating "insert name of movie here". What are we really trying to prove here? That Pixar makes great movies or that Disney really does some great "distribution"? If anything Pixars success only makes Disney look worse. It just proves that if Eisner and Disney keep their hands off the product and lets creative people do their job then the product turns out good. Does that really help Disney at this point have they learned a lesson in the Pixar deal?

Europa,
sometimes people just find box office interesting. The numbers are fun. Also, it is probably the quickest way of quantifying one aspect of pop culture that I can think of.

D-R, I agree. That is exactly why I started this thread. Being an Accountant, I love #s and rankings. Also, it does show how this movie is perceived by the General Public.

Pixar is great, no question. But a lot people, are not putting it together that Pixar is not Disney. So, therefore this reflects positively on Disney.

IMO, the Pixar relationship is necessary for Disney. Disney has gone through so many cutbacks that they need to use outside firms to establish the block buster movies. I want to see Nemo go where only the Lion King has been. The only Animation (computer or hand-drawn) to exceed $300M. Hopefully, this will entice ME to make the necessary concessions to get a deal done to lock up Pixar for a long time to come. This relationship benefits both parties (obviously, Disney benefits at a greater rate. This is due to people discovering what Pixar is, but there is still the misconsption by some that Pixar is Disney).

Regarding Europa comments --

"I'm not sure what all the hype is about it beating "insert name of movie here". What are we really trying to prove here? That Pixar makes great movies or that Disney really does some great "distribution"?"

The hype is that movies like Shrek and Toy Story are considered to be the standard of excellence. The ecomony was in a different place when these movies were released. Thru out history, everything has always been compared to something. If Shrek is the standard of excellence, or even better... How many times have heard people say... "oh this Disney project, can't hold water to Shrek. They learn a lesson, or I am going to jump in #4 and never watch another film." Well, here you have a movie that is going to pass Shrek. So many Disney and Pixar have the right formula
