Nemo Show - No Plan to ReOpen (Updated 9/14)

My family has never been much for shows. But, even so, we appreciate that others like them and, more importantly from our perspective, they absorb crowds, making the lines shorter for everything else. (Same with meet and greets, though, obviously, those don't eat crowds to nearly the same degree.) Not only does the continued trimming of shows and other entertainment (if the rumor is true) make Disney less unique, it also makes the ride lines longer. Which is a major drag for people who come to Disney mostly for the rides. Combine this with the stingy hours cutbacks, and you can expect the parks to be more crowded and the lines to be longer. Ugh.
Cue Disney's hope that that means more Genie + sales.....

I guess I'll be the opposing voice on this one. I thought Nemo was a great show but if you take its closure as a chance to redo that section of the park by combining its footprint with that of Dinorama, there's potential for something really great. I want to be optimistic about the chance this provides a really under-utilized area of the park.
Australia would be great too.

that will be sad if it doesn't come back.
There have been many meh shows in that theater over the years. Nemo, IMHO, was by fat the best of them.

Bugs Life they are showing what it is like in the world of bugs, Zootopia is in a human world, not the same.
Avatar has a role in conservation, a huge part of AKs mission.

This has been a discussion for years and years on here. An overwhelming majority have always said it didn't fit.
FWIW - Joe Rohde has been pretty consistent (and convincing, to me) re: why Zootopia doesn't belong in Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The themes of the park include Conservation, Adventure, and Man's Relationship With Animals. Pandora was really a natural fit thematically, which is why it works so well. Zootopia may have animals, but it doesn't really belong.

Though, with Joe Rohde gone, I'm not hopeful this vision will last for long. The allure of cramming Zootopia in there -- established IP, ability to leverage designs from Shanghai to limit cost -- is probably too strong. And "the park has 'Animal' right there in the name" is probably as deep as the real decision-makers will think about theme. Alas.

If it's not coming back, I'm really wondering what the point of going to Disney is. Seriously, I've been waiting to take DD until Disney goes back to being more like Disney, but then I see posts like this, and it seems like that's just not happening. My kid doesn't like "scary" rides. Which means the only rides for her at AK are Safari, NRJ, and triceratops spin. I was counting on the shows to make AK come alive. The animals are great, but we're members at the Bronx Zoo - we see amazing animals year round. I need something more to justify the price of a trip to AK.

I've got the same problem with HS. For rides, my kid will go on Alien Saucers and Toy Story Mania. That's it. I desperately need shows and streetmosphere to make a day there worth it for us. For a park based on Hollywood, it's ridiculously lacking in entertainment.

That's a BIG if. IF they get rid of the theater and all of Chester and Hesters' Dino Land, they would have room to put something very cool there. IMHO, their area has always seemed like a cheap add on to the land. You can leave Dinosaur and that area alone.
Otherwise, get rid of Dino Land and bring back Nemo.

I appreciate the artistry that went into Nemo, but it was a one and done for me. I am hopeful that they put something new in its place.

I am hoping they are working on something and don't plan to leave the theater dark.

Our family was very saddened by this news. We don't ride Kali. I can't ride Flight of Passage.

That leaves Dinosaur, Triceratop Spin, Everest, UP! Bird Show, Kilimanjaro Safari, Festival of the Lion King, and Na'vi River Journey for me.

Everest will be down during my tentative trip (yes, I keep booking one further out in hopes things will change. I think it's called insanity.) and I will have to pay for Genie+ AND Lightning Lane for us to ride the Safari ride and for him to ride Flight of Passage.

Animal Kingdom used to be my favorite park. I was there during the opening. And now, I'm considering skipping it entirely in the spring.

ETA: They also took away our favorite night time show when they dismantled Rivers of Light. They got rid of all the performers in Harambe. Kite Tails isn't going to cut it.

so they're spending money to update the show.....not to worry something else will arrive to complain about without any official word.

Can't stand that website, but it's been a rumor for a long time, not some revelation by said website. I know they have had contract issues with the show before and maybe the covid closure is being used to make changes. Given Primevil Whirl is closed for good, what do they even do with that area? Perhaps there is a retheme idea in play, its not the first show to be replaced in that theater location.

The only sites I've found are just quoting the original site.

It is on the website. Doesn't mean anything one way or another though.

Your hyperlink not withstanding, Search for 'Nemo' or 'Finding Nemo' on Disney website and:

Why can't they show the old Nemo show while developing the new one?
With a ride, I understand, they have to tear down the old one to make room for the new one. But a show?

It all depends on what they are changing.
Could be changes to the theater, backgrounds, characters, stage, which would make having the show running and making these changes difficult.
If they are just adding/deleting scenes, musical numbers, etc, then that could work. But still difficult for the actors to do the full shows and rehearse the new show.

Besides a new set, they might not want all the actors on stage right now. Maybe part of the reimagining will be reducing the cast and socially distancing some of them, like Beauty and the Beast
