Nemo Show - No Plan to ReOpen (Updated 9/14)

Multiple Disney blogs are 'reporting' that The Nemo Show in Animal Kingdom will not be reopening.

The suggestion is that the show is 'permanently closed'.

Animal Kingdom was my family favorite because of both the Lion King & Nemo shows.

If the reporting is true, it's just another example of Disney becoming more like Six Flags.

Stopping at Casey's only happened when the piano player was there.....cocktails at Grand Floridian were 'best' while the Jazz Band was playing......


Dear Mr. Chapek,

We are not avoiding the Parks because of Covid, we're avoiding Disney because you keep taking away what made Disney 'better' than every other Park.

There are at least two [2] websites making the claim.

And FWIW, Nemo Show is no longer listed on the Disney website nor is it listed on the map for AKingdom.

That’s an interesting rumor, but even if it’s true that doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t put in a new show.

There’s been three shows in that space and arguably it may be time for a change. Speaking of Animal Kingdom, I hope Feathered Friends in Flight is here to stay. The Up characters didn’t really add much to the bird show.

They're just going to continue to cut as long as we keep buying tickets. I'm sick of it. They bring back FOTLK, but remove some of the best elements of the show. Fantasmic has no opening in sight and they close Nemo with no announcement of a replacement of any kind. I adored that show, but more importantly, it's just another cut making WDW more like an amusement park more and more every day.

I'll email them just so I can say at least I said something, but this won't stop until they see a decline in sales- and that's just not happening.

What a shame, I really liked that show. I liked how it was a little more unique than say, something like the Beauty and the Beast show, because they added original songs, and the puppets were pretty cool. I hope they do something with the theater soon. It was a good way to suck up a lot of the crowds, and even if people didn't like the show they can admit it was a nice way spend 45 minutes, sitting down in the AC.

Not to mention that AK doesn’t have that many attractions to begin with, even with Pandora. It’s a ton of walking and standing on your feet all day. Being able to sit down, relax, and de-stress in AC for 45 minutes, while enjoying good entertainment, is invaluable.

Individual rides are great and all, but it’s a mix of attractions (slow & fast, rides & shows, long & short) that come together to make a great day. Pre-Covid Disney always excelled at that, but the new Disney does not.

But, even so, we appreciate that others like them and, more importantly from our perspective, they absorb crowds, making the lines shorter for everything else. (Same with meet and greets, though, obviously, those don't eat crowds to nearly the same degree.) Not only does the continued trimming of shows and other entertainment (if the rumor is true) make Disney less unique, it also makes the ride lines longer. Which is a major drag for people who come to Disney mostly for the rides. Combine this with the stingy hours cutbacks, and you can expect the parks to be more crowded and the lines to be longer. Ugh.

I thought Nemo was a great show but if you take its closure as a chance to redo that section of the park by combining its footprint with that of Dinorama, there's potential for something really great. I want to be optimistic about the chance this provides a really under-utilized area of the park.

You hit the nail on the head. Even if it isn't something that's your cup of tea, it serves the purpose of being people eaters. We're not big on character meets anymore other than the traditional Mickey meetngreet, but not having them at all changes WDW. I know others love them and for those with young children growing up and out of that age where they enjoy them most, they're going to never get that experience. There's no excuse for the cuts at this point other than to save money and because they think people will continue to come without those things- making them even more profits. I never, in my wildest dreams would've predicted at this point we'd still be looking a what is a shell of what use to be.

If that's what's going on, then sign me up. Dinorama is an embarrassment and a waste of space. Especially with one of its rides permanently closed with nothing announced to replace it.

Agree about the Up! characters, and I love Up! . The show was better pre-character addition.

I could be on board with that - that side of the park is definitely anemic. It is the logical next area to revamp. But do you see it happening in the next several years, with Epcot in the state it is, MK still undergoing major Tron construction, and Disney still reeling from Covid? Look at how long it’s taking to simply start the Splash Mountain reimagining. And nothing has even been announced about AK yet. At this pace, it will be five+ years before anything happens there. Shuttering the theater seems premature, even if they have long-term future plans for that area.

I think that area is ripe for a makeover. People still love Dinosaur, but Primevil Whirl is done, and honestly no one would be weeping if Triceratops Spin and the amusement park games were moved. To keep the theme with Animal Kingdom I would love another continent. A whole South America/Amazon rainforest themed area would be really cool. There could be some Up elements but I would love to see a non-IP themed area (ex Pandora, Toy Story Land, Galaxy's Edge, etc.).

I didn't care for the Nemo show(I thought Tarzan was much better), I went right after it opened and haven't been back since. Other than Dinosaur that whole land needs to be re-done, it's terrible.

So Everest will be down for months, Kali will be down too. And now nemos not returning. AK will be returning to a half day park for a while. And I never u derstood shy they didn’t do a zootopia land there.
