DIS Dads Nemesis Challenge 2

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Weather here was awesome for a run - 50 and cloudy. Unfortunately, the wind always seemed to be in my face when I ran uphill. Did 5 miles today. And swallowed a bug. It did NOT taste like chicken.

Nice! Don't worry about the taste, at least you got that protein kick during the run! :rotfl2:

sorry took he weekend off. Wanted to rest the shin. Plus my trainer hasnt booked us for a 10k yet so I have nothing in the near future to look forward to, and set a goal for.

I'm trying to set up a 10K that would mimic 6 laps around world showcase, with a beverage stop for each country... I think that would be most beneficial to the training...

Well in that case take your time. We want the course to be well thought out.

I hope everyone that was on the fence joined up - the 2014 Half Marathon is officially sold out. Spots still available in the Marathon (62% full) and Goofy Challange (64% full).

That is crazy. I think I signed up for the half last year the week after Father's Day. I don't think it was even close to selling at when I signed up either.

It was the DisDad craze that caused all the craziness this yr!!!!

Ok time to get back in to running mode. I haven't done anything for a few weeks. I am very upset with myself, gained 4pounds back from eating so much and doing nothing. So tonight it's back to the streets. Time to get serious about this, only 7 months to go before the big run.

I know this is a little early, but what does everyone have for hotel plans? We plan to get down there on Wednesday the 8th (DW's birthday is the 9th, and last year I made the mistake of flying down that day, wasting valuable birthday park time.) So our 7 month window for DVC reservations for non-home resort opens on Saturday.

Right now, we have a studio at Saratoga Springs, but I'm thinking about switching it to Bay Lake Tower so I can hop the monorail to Epcot a oh-dark-thirty and the family can sleep in, catch the monorail to MK to watch me breeze through the castle, the catch it again to watch me collapse at the finish line at Epcot.

If BLT is not available, we'll probably switch to Old Key West. It's a bit cheaper on points and seemed to work out pretty well last year.

I haven't figured this out yet. I'll be solo so if anyone is looking for a roommate I might be available. It probably wouldn't hurt to start figuring these things out soon.

we are not DVC members so I am not sure where to stay so that we?I can get to EPCOT easily and that Shari can get to MK to see me. Ideas??

I've done the marathon a few times from BLT, and the monorail is a HUGE benefit. You can leave the room at 3:45 and still get there in plenty of time, as no one is on the monorail. Sarah and the kids loved being able to walk out and see us pass by the resort at mile 9 (for the full) and then taking the monorail to epcot to watch the finish. It's a great hotel for runners.

I'm with this guy. Literally. :thumbsup2

Every Disney restort is a "host" resort for Marathon Weekend. Meaning that there will be busses going from every Disney hotel to Epcot Saturday morning. (Monorail transportation is also a possibility if you're at a monorail hotel.)

There is no bus or boat transportation to or from Magic Kingdom for Shari. She's going to have to either take a marathon bus to Epcot or drive to Epcot and get on the monorail to TTC then MK. Last year, our plan was for Bambi and the kids to drive to TTC, then take the monorail to MK. They got stopped and rerouted to Epcot parking because the half marathon route goes right through the parking toll booths and on the access road to the parking lots.

I told DW I was going to stay at the Contemporary so I could be on the monorail route. Then she remembered that she's not going with me and told me it was the Motel 6 for me. She wants to know why I haven't found a roommate yet. I told (truthfully) that the only one to offer so far has been a female and all she did was laugh.

I'd offer to let you stay with us, but we've already got 5 in a studio. And I take my orders from one them, so she must remain happy.

That's quite alright. I'll figure something out. If it looks like I'm going to end up by myself there's still a small chance DW will come with the baby though the 2 girls would not be very happy about that.

We are at BWV Jan. 8-14. Would like to switch to BLT or the GF but doubt I will try to do it due to lack of points next year. Thinking about Il Mulino the night before the Half to carb load. Since the Pirate Princess is running the Dopey, not sure if we will even attempt to go into any of the parks. Maybe after the 10K.

so should I look for a monorail hotel for ease for Shari ??
