Neighbor using YOUR garbage can?

Plus! What if he's got extra smelly garbage in there? Now I have to have m can stink - my garage stink if it's summer and I gotta keep it extra days until pick up.

I just think it's rude. He cld have kept the bag in his garage or backyard. That's what I do when I miss the truck.

The garbage man comes to our side of the street first.

Right after Christmas I have filled up our can and left it on our side of the street and then when the garbage was picked up, I filled up our can again and wheeled it across the street for a second pick up the same day and immediately picked up the can from in front of he neiighbors after the second pass. Sometimes at Christmas there's just too much garbage for one week.

Most of the time, we could skip a pick up each week and be just fine. So I feel no guilt about putting the can out twice in one day.

Recycling on the other hand must go each week. We always have a lot!

So, was he mistaken about yours being picked up already? Your post is a little confusing there. You said you were bringing in your can which leads me to believe he was mistaken about the pick up.

If mine was already picked up, I would have given it back to him and told him they already picked up my side of the house.

If it had not been picked up it would not have been an issue.

No the OP would not have to keep the garbage a couple of days.

The truck had not come up her side of the street yet. Both her trash and the neighbor's trash in her can still needed to be picked up.

Did you read the OP and his next post? His garbage had not been picked up, his neighbor's had. I'm guessing the neighbor figured it would be picked up any minute. The OP even had room to put more garbage in the can. I don't think its rude at all, but I live in a great neighborhood!

I don't see the big deal. We've put garbage and recycling in neighbor's cans and they've done the same with us. Around here garbage pickup is once a week and recycling is once every 2 weeks. If you have too much for your own cans it's a long time to have it sitting around.

Oh!
That's not as bad but I still would never do that.

Slightly off topic, but i am confused are you only allowed one can of garbage or do you only have one garbage can?

Yikes! Here that would mean your neighbors would get charged for an extra can.

We get garbage pick up once a week and we are charged by the can - and specifically by the size of the can. There are two sizes. If I have empty space in the can I've already paid for, the neighbors are welcome to it.

Since the kids left home, we only pay for a small can twice a month.

Just to clarify, I was checking to see if the garbage had been picked up by peeking into the can. When I checked, my garbage can was now full. I didn't mention that in my orignal post, but I wasn't putting more in, just checking to see if I could bring the can in.

Oh, and I'm a she:wave2:

Oh well, I would think nothing of it then. :goodvibes

If they would ask me, I would not have a problem with it.

I pay for 2 cans. The family across the street used to run their garbage over to our can when their one can was overflowing. They are a larger family and only pay for one can.

I have to be honest and say I found it annoying that they just started this habit of using our cans without asking.

Then they had another baby and emptied their diaper genie bags in our can. I wound up scrubbing our can out quite often because the diaper smell would not leave.

After awhile, I asked them not to throw their old diapers in our cans. I explained it made our cans smell awful.

They became offended and said "Well, garbage is supposed to smell".

I then informed them to never use my garbage cans again and to buy a second can if they need more space for garbage. I am done with ungrateful and entitled people.

In that situation, I would be upset as well. Your billing structure would make you responsible for the cost of their trash. I would not be cool with that either.

I live in a good neighborhood as well, but we know boundaries. We know what day the garbage man comes and we have no excuse of having not brought it out because we can leave it out the night before after a certain time.

Why didn't he just pull it to the other side and wait? that was just lazy. Perhap you can dump your trash in his the night before and wave and say, oh I don't feel like messing with the trash tomorrow.

LOL Not that I would do that, but it's good for a laugh.

I really wouldn't care a bit.

Its kinda nutty, but as far as my nebors go the guys come snow blow my drive when dh car isn't home, we have mowed each other grass for free:scared1:, helped move furniture, feed each other pets, watched over each others houses, share food and extras from gardens...

oh I could go on but really op who cares :confused3

I mentioned to another neighbor about seeing another neighbor put trash in another neighbors can. He then told me one day he lifted the lid and inside his empty can was a little blue bag. Which everyone knows belongs to the lady on our street who walks her dog. We only have 10 house on our street and she is the only one we see walking a dog carrying a blue bag.

I can't believe these people why!!!

Wouldn't even hit my radar.
My elderly mother gets all up in arms about stuff like this and it drives me nuts.
