I am working from home today, so that means I can get a ton done between calls. My favorite thing to do on a Tuesday is clean out my pantry and fridge since it is our garbage day.
Filled up my garbage bag and walked it out to the curb where my Waste Management trash can is. I see that the lid is raised. That was weird, because I had space for another bag. Also, if our lid does not completely close, they will not take our trash.
I get closer and see that shoved in my trash can are two white bags (we use black). I couldn’t believe it. Now my other neighbor who had been gardening comes over and says the neighbor across the street walked over and threw them into our trash can. I open the bag and see two magazines on top with their name and address on it. Nosey gardening neighbor was correct.
Please keep in mind that these neighbors (trash can filling neighbors) are miserable and can barely muster a “hello” when I wave. We owe them no favors. We barely know them.
I was furious. I am not keeping my food for another week. This is my trash can and I can’t even throw out my own trash?
I take the two white trash out of my can and walk it across the street. I knock on the door. Nothing. I ring the doorbell. I hear movement, so I just place their trash on the porch. As I am walking down the steps, the lady opens the door as says to me “Why are you leaving this here?”
I said “Because it is yours.”
And she said “Yes. And I threw it away. Get it off my porch and take it back to where you found it.”
At this point my blood is boiling. I said “Don’t ever put trash in my can again. Pay for a second one if you don’t have enough room.”
She would not back down. She said “Well you had room. What’s the big deal?”
I explained that I had last minute trash and, besides, she shoved so much in that they would not have taken it anyway because the lid was up.
And do you know what she said to me in a snotty tone?
“Perhaps you shouldn’t wait to take your trash out at the last minute and we wouldn’t have this problem now, would we? And don’t ever put trash on my porch again!”
And then she threw her bags off her porch and into her yard and slammed the door.
I am still so mad that I am shaking. First of all, we live in a nice neighborhood with a hefty HOA fee. I am looking out the window and she still has trash bags in her yard. I hope she gets fined. I feel like calling and reporting her, but I am sure the gardening neighbor (Gladys Kravitz) has already made several calls. And my other neighbors will die when they come home from work and garbage bags are on display. So. I will allow them to make the calls.
I just can’t imagine being that entitled that you think you have full access to a service somebody else paid for.
Thanks for letting me vent. Sorry for this being so long.
