Neighbor filled my trash can. Furious. Long vent.

Again, you can't reason with 'crazy'.
I hate that the OP is having to deal with this.
But, marching over to her house, putting trash (even THEIR trash) on their porch, and ringing the doorbell, I am afraid that this is getting too close to stooping to their level. I don't engage with crazy unless absolutely necessary.
I would call this 'Facing life head on' and wish more people would do it.

Forward to this past summer. I was out doing yard work, and this guy walks over and hands me a bucket filled with black walnuts. He said why are your walnuts across the street in our driveway. I said what do you expect me to do..direct where they fall and roll to?, I couldn't believe he was asking me such a stupid thing. He says well you did it with my trash. I said your trash was your trash, we pay for pick up. You can't help where leaves or walnuts fall off a tree. We are on the high side of the street, so of course they are going to roll across the street since it's pitched down? He walks away and says well don't let it happen again??? Some people are just plain looney!

What a nut. Literally.

Yes. Shoving your trash in someone's garbage is the same as nature taking its course:headache:

I sympathize. I had a neighbor who was an absolute terror! We lived at the end of a long private drive. I would stand with my children at the community mailbox for the school bus. He came by one early morning and accused me of throwing water bottles in the grass. I explained that it wasn't me, but I started to find used water bottles in my mailbox. My husband was away on business and I didn't want to confront the neighbor, so I just would take them out each morning and toss them into my recycling.

I guess my lack of reaction started him adding trash to my trash container. Since we lived in the country there was no city/county trash service, so our trash was managed with a waste company. Trash pick up was pricey, so I started having to bring my trash to the the county dump rather than leave my container out to be filled by this nut job.

Weeks go by and the neighbor knocks on my door one day. He said he came to apologize because he found out I wasn't lying after all. He actually said he came out the last couple of days and hid in the woods to see who was leaving the water bottles. He discovered it was actually the newspaper carrier who was dropping the bottles in the grass. He said he had watched us a few days to be sure and he was sorry because we were not the litterbugs after all.

This was just one my tales about this crazy neighbor. We actually looked into a job transfer to give us an excuse to sell our dream home. It was a terrible feeling to be living next to someone so toxic.

Please tread lightly, things can escalate very quickly.

Hi OP. Does your neighbor not pay for trash service or was their can totally full and they were putting the overflow in yours? If you pay for trash service as part of the HOA fee, I can sort of see her point in that you all pay the same amount and it doesn't matter whose container it is put into.

It does matter. What if she takes up all of my garbage space in the can and I have no room to put any of mine? What am I supposed to do with my garbage?

When our children lived at home, we had more garbage. So we paid extra for an additional can. We no longer need that extra can, so we only have one. If the neighbor needs more space for her garbage, SHE can buy an extra can.

Low life she is.

I had this problem at my wife's office a few times. She pays for a small dumpster. Once the H&R Block office nearby got new desks and dumped their disassembled desks in her dumpster filling it. I went to the H&R office and they denied doing it. So, I started taking out their trash and dumping it in front of their office. Their manager then said "well, maybe we did do it". She then had her staff take it all out of my wife's dumpster.

Another time we found a bunch of boxes with addresses on them filled with paint cans. I took them out and drove them across town and left them on their front porch.

Wow! I wish you'd gotten a pic of her yard w/the trash dumped in it for us!

We have city pick-up here. They actually prefer that you don't use a trash can, so they don't provide one. We prefer the trash can (ever seen a bag a dog got into?!) so we bought one ourselves. Now, b/c this is free city pick-up...it's actually inmates who pick-up the trash. It's a little scary if we're actually home. haha

We had a neighbor who did that for a while. She was a bit of a friend though so I didn't say anything. Irritated me quite a bit though. At the time they were skimping by with no trash service. Thankfully they finally got service of their own so I didn't have to say anything.

OP, good for you for directly handling things!

I love to clean our my fridge, too, so add me to the crazy club . (Mine stems from having a grandmother who only did it once a season, I swear, and it was like an archaeological dig :crazy2:.)

Good for you for standing up for yourself!

Terri

Someone in our neighborhood often puts their recycling with ours. We have no idea which one it is and we joke about the "phantom recycler." I find it annoying because we pay for trash and recycling also, however it doesn't cost me anything extra so I don't pursue it (no cap on how many trash cans, etc). But a "hey, do you mind if we add a little recycling to your pile?" would be nice. I find it weird that someone would just add theirs to someone else's yard! But if I were the OP, i'd be really angry also since they have to pay for extra. Good for you for confronting her!

Yep, people think my my business dumpsters are free to use as they please....

We had the same issue at a store I worked at with people throwing out their trash in the dumpster. Keyed locks were added to the opening along with a bar that goes over the lid that is connected to the lock which stopped it. Thankfully that stopped it.

On our street, people pay different amounts for trash pickup. Some get 1 can, some 2, some unlimited. I admit I have been tempted, on occasion, to just put a bag at the curb by the unlimited house. But I never did. And now I sure won't!

The thing is, if you just had a one-time extra bag, from a party or cleaning out a closet or something, I bet they'd let you if you asked! I bet the OP would have let the neighbor, too - if she had room and the lady had asked. It's the sneaking it in and then getting all angry about it that's the problem.

Good for you OP. People not understanding boundaries amazes me.

She is lucky you didn't " make it rain" with putting her trash back all over her yard. Oops a racoon must have gotten in trash and went specifically to her yard, lol.

I had someone taking my newspaper, so I beat them to the paper and replaced it with a Special Edition, lol. Compliments my dog. Somehow, I haven't had that problem since.

I think some people have.forgotten that lesson we learn early of keeping our hands to ourselves and not touch other people"s stuff.

I love cleaning out my fridge and pantry. It's so satisfying.

I'd be worried about escalation too - but that's because I watch too much Law & Order and I'm a neurotic New Yorker.

Lol just when I thought my neighbors were bad! But honestly she might be the type that will do these types of things until someone stands up to her.. Ya know one to push the boundaries?
