Negative Reaction about our Trip from Family

No one around here understand my love for Disney. They look at me like I'm crazy and I look back at them like their "CLUELESS"! And they are. It's the only time in my life where as soon I go thru those gates. All problems, stress & ect.. doesn't seem to matter anymore. it's the magic Disney has.

So now who's raining on parades? :rotfl: If we don't want people to question our choice of vacation spot, we shouldn't question theirs.

Okay there is one word for those types of people....joysuckers! That is what my BIL and SIL are. We were so excited about our trip last month and you could jsut see them looking at us like we were nuts. Those type of people can just be glad that they aren't going to WDW. They would do one of 2 things. They would either make everyone else miserable or they would have to turn in their joysucker badges, swallow their pride and admit they are Disney junkies now. Just don't talk to them about it. That what I have decided. I hope you have a wonderful time and can go many times again!

You are right, I should have written..."I always say TO MYSELF..." I never express my feelings because I don't want to offend. I was posing this question because I was wondering if any of you DISers also enjoy going to Universal. Wondering if we are missing something by skipping it.

We get this from DH's family but who cares it is the ONE place on earth my children get along and act like best friends!! They are now 18 :earsgirl: and 22 :earsboy: so where do you think they want to go for a Christmas vacation??? ::MickeyMo Again???? :rotfl:

Go and have fun!!!!!! They only rain on your parade when you let them!

*by the way- this makes me think of my reaction when people tell me they're going to Universal- I always say, "why would you go there, Disney is so much better" I've only been to Universal once & that was 8 yrs ago-didn't care for it. Does anyone else think people are crazy for choosing Universal over Disney????[/QUOTE]

I am a true disney fanatic but we LOVE Universal. If you have not been in 8 years than you really have not been to the current Universal! We love the hotels (deluxe level at about half the cost of WDW deluxe hotels), the parks are exciting and Citywalk has great restaurants, nightlife, etc. It is such a different experience than WDW that I don't think one can compare the two. We love going to the Hard Rock Hotel, eating at Emeril's Tchop Tchop restuarant and renting a cabana by the pool. Another amazing perk (that was not there 8 years ago) is if you stay on site at any of the three excellent hotels you bypass the ride lines. Talk about VIP treatment!

Thanks for the info- Living far away it's difficult... when we only can get down there once over 2-3 yrs, I always want to get back to Disney. Maybe we'll give it a shot on the nect trip.

How old are your kids? I would wait until kids are old enough to enjoy it. Our kids were 11, 10 9 ,6. All were tall enought to go on all the rides. We were there for a week and were astonished at how many "unhappy" parents there were with children in strollers at all the parks. Disney markets itself for young families, but it's not. Young children fear the characters and are too young for rides. Parents save all year to go there for the "magic" and it's overwhelming. Heed warnings of those who have gone with young kids.Be prepared for a lot of walking. Are you really doing it for the kids? You'll be waiting in line 30 deep to get a picture of mickey........ Wait until you can enjoy each park , on all the rides , as a family.. you'll be happy . Good things come to those who wait.

Yup. Both my family and dh's family don't "get" it. So, when they say something I don't care to hear (criticism), I come here for my "support group". DH is more enthused about WDW than I am. So, y'all are the only other ones besides DH that "understands" me. Y'all are the best. Thanks guys.

Oh no, I must disagree... Our kids are now 6 (twins) and 11. We have already gone when they were 3 and 8 and when our oldest was 5 and 1 1/2. IMHO Disney is a ton of fun no matter what the age of your kids. You just have to be sure to work at a pace your children can enjoy. There is always something for every age child. When they were small, we would do parks for a couple of hours in the am, then head back to resort for lunch, a swim & a nap then head back to the parks. If you try do do marathon days & expect to be able to go on every ride, you are setting yourself up for a miserable trip. This is why we like to ge overy couple of years, then we don't feel like we "have" to go on every ride every time we visit.

We are fortunate to only live 1 1/2 hours away from DW. My husband and I Have been AP for 6 years now. I've been there 10 times just this year and am going in 2 weeks again. We were married there and have stayed at the same hotel for the 6 years. Now, my parents have 2 trips a year with us. We go ALOT and some people have commented , not family, on how often we go. I tell them it's between us. I can't and don't have to explain it to them. Just go and have a blast!!!!! It's your experience! Your vacation!!!

They don't have any idea what they are 'dis-ing' (late nite pun there). We heard it all before we went... some were very self righteous about it.
Now, after 6 trips and planning our 7th... they just roll thier eyes.
Who cares. We have a ball!
You will love it! Your family will have the time of thier lives! And you'll have wonderful memories... and lots of pictures... mugs... stuffed characters... hats... to bug them with when you get home. Then you can say "You just have no idea what you're missing!!" :earsboy:

We took our DD who was a week and a half shy of her 2nd bday last month. I couldn't tell you how many times we heard "why??? she won't remember it!" It drove me crazy. We had the best time and DD is still asking to see Minne and Donald on a daily basis. Go, have a fantastic time!!! ;)

While I agree it IS important to see other places in our big beautiful world, I also agree that Disney is the place where we go to feel like we are in a whole DIFFERENT Big beautiful world. Its a FEELING you have while you are there. Almost like an addiction, LOL We need our fix!

Some people just don't GET it! They are scrooges who CANT feel the magic the way that we can. Just smile and tell them that Disney is the place we ENJOY going on vacation. Whats the difference...some people go to "the lake" or to "the golf course" or to " the beach house" every year...Disney is no different.

Just realize that some people dont GET IT and go on knowing that the fact that you can feel like a child again in a Magical Place is a GREAT thing!

"We're not going for her, we're going for us. She's just lucky enough to get to tag along!" :teeth:

We are also taking our 3 kids who will be 8,6,and 2 when we go. People have commented that they are too young, but honestly, it is hard to go ANYWHERE with 3 young kids on vacation, so it may as well be somewhere fun for all of us. We have taken mostly beach vacations with them so far, and a week at the beach when the weather is freakishly cold and rainy for the entire week is no fun at all! At least if we were at Disney we would have lots of choices of things to do.
I think that if we keep our expectations realistic, we will be fine!

Mrs. Magic
I agree. Any trip at this point requires work at least this one has someting for everyone.

Some people just don't get it. We had no negative comments about our first family trip in December 2003, but we're up to our 5th trip next month. Family is starting to question my sanity, but we absolutely love WDW.

You're an adult and allowed to make choices for your family...don't forget that. Just because MIL, SIL, BF, etc. may not approve it shouldn't take away from the excitement of your trip. There will always be negative people out there--you just be one of the positive ones and have a great time at WDW.

We get this type of negative reaction from my Bro and SIL because they can't seem to save for any vacation, let alone one to WDW, so they have to put it down. Since our trips to WDW are so regular, most everyone else is used to our style. One comeback I've learned to use is to just be honest: we've found WDW to be somewhere the whole family enjoys and we plan to do it for as long as the kids want to; it's a gift to us that our teenage DS and DD WANT to go on a family trip together. Most everyone who has their heart in the right place understands that and if they are honest, would like to be able to do it too. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:
